From our TURTLE RESCUE FAQ - General Qs
+ Why do Turtle Rescue?
TMNT fandom is 42 years old and made of fans of all ages since 1984. So many fan stories, characters, art, & communities have come & gone in those four decades.
The Internet connects TMNT fans, but every time some website fails, our fandom loses 100s of works, 1,000s of hours of effort, & countless chances to share w/ each other as fellow fans.
.
We lost mature works when fanfiction.net deleted 1000s of stories appropriately tagged for adult readers.
We lost hundreds of personal TMNT fan websites & webrings when Geocities shut down its 38 million personal webpages.
We lost whole communities when Yahoo Groups closed. TMNT fan groups were just some of the 10 million groups closed.
We’ve lost entire phpbb message boards and forums when hosting services ended. Imagine if Discord randomly deleted your servers.
LiveJournal, itself, already purged more than 500+ accounts during the censorship panic of StrikeThrough and BoldThrough. .
Now, new internet laws around the globe are endangering content of the wrong ratings, or in the wrong languages, or on the wrong websites.
And worse, after 42 years of TMNT fandom we’re starting to lose fan creators themselves. Cynlee, Winnychan, Milo, and many more are no longer with us.
🕯️ 🕯️ 🕯️ 🕯️
You may have never met them, but I assure you, they are your fandom friends. They wrote TMNT stories they would want shared with you. They posted them just for you. Newest fan to oldest, we’re all in this fandom together, under the same TMNT mutant mania. So why do Turtle Rescue?
To make an archive of everything we can save. Of everything we have done. Of everyone we have known. To join hands across 42 years to honor the hours writing, reading, drawing, RPing, and having fun with the people online who understood us best, those who shared the love we all feel for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
