i have said this on twitter then deleted it but there's nothing as exhausting as reading gringos discover imperialism over and over again and still not get how it works. how it extends, how deep it goes and rots us under it. how it's the worst of USA extending over the world, ideologically and physically. how all that matters is conquering us and leaving us subservient as cheap labour, as a fountain of resources. some of yall only see ''foreign country'' as some homogenous mass to be either saved or destroyed.
when on sunday argentina chooses the fucking fascists and y'all see us in a couple months getting gassed on the street because we don't want our oil, water and human rights sold away, i hope your gullible asses won't go ''they deserved it, i read on twitter they're all nazis''
I posted this in 2023 when the fascist goverment was about to win. Today, 2026 world cup and the narrative that we're the worst of the worst and that we should ''be turned into a lake'' is incredibly damn widespread from people I respected. We are apparently all right wingers who need to be taught a lesson. We should be obliterated.
Our goverment has illegally sold many of our water, riverbanks and burnt acres and acres of native land. The buyers are US and Israel.
We deserve it, don't we? You read on twitter we're all nazis.
I have read we're all white nazis. I have read we're not as white as we want to be (mockingly). I have read our children deserve to starve, that we're the new colonizers (how!?), that we have done countless genocides and are evil demons. I have read we're Israel, we're zionists, we should be bombed, we should be turned into a lake.
I've seen people (Afroargentinians, indigenous argentinians, brown argentinians, white argentinians, mestizo, hell even asian argentinians) explaining and recontextualizing and trying and trying. I have seen people who are not even arguing anything get swarmed by hateful comments for using the Argentinian shirt, even worse if they're foreigners who have embraced our country. I have seen these comments telling them "argentinians want you dead, argentinians would turn on you".
They hide behind "you all think like your goverment". They refuse to listen to any nuance on the region. They quote examples of racism and anti-indigenous in Argentina without context, without understanding this shit hurts argentinians first. Brown argentinians are the first victims of argentinian racism.
In this foreign narrative, they don't exist. We don't exist as people, we're a concept. The nazi country. The shithole.
While all of this is happening, Milei is trying to pass a law that allows foreign companies to acquire largue quantities of land. Israeli companies and diplomats are circling us like vultures. The US and Europe are getting for cheap local scientific advancements worth millions.
I'm so fucking sorry that I called it. I knew they wouldn't care. I'm so saddened anyway.
YOU'RE INSECURE
god the self-proclaimed leftist progressives on this website are defending war crimes and colonization just to own global south citizens online god your "communists" and "liberals" from the first world are making third worlders argue their progressiveness time and time again just to prove their value as human beings. god, they are repeating far-right talking points without question god they are incredibly susceptible to propaganda

these people really think they're funny huh
It's like watching Germans make jokes about the Gestapo
I've seen many posts and sayings from english personalities after the Argentina - England match and it's truly amazing how they make us the enemy while wildly contradicting each other
1. For some, we were disrespectful to "their" territory because WE invaded THEM (not true, read a real history book). They make us look like the violent provoking colonizers and they're the poor victims of such cruelty (ironic i know)
2. This was Piers Morgan specifically. They hope the spanish "butcher us in the final the way they butchered us in the Malvinas war"!!!!!. Not only is this incredibly violent (i thought we were the violent ones?) but they make us look like the weaker side. They're the colonizers but now it's a good thing
3. The ones that say "oh well look at those poor sudacas they don't even have jobs their economy is shit they don't even have drinking water. This is probably the only time they get to be happy. After all, we're the real winners!". While not really a lie I believe this is the most childish response. "Omggg who even cares about this stupid sport that we invented and everyone else does better than us even those dirty latinos!!! We at least have all the gold and jewels from our colonies yay!!". So we're dirt poor AND we're colonizers? I don't get it
4. The apolitical side. "Don't bring politics into football!!" It has always been political. In fact the argentinian team has mostly kept off politics but them waving the Malvinas Argentinas flag was an incredible gesture that made our cipayo zionist president incredibly mad (delightful) and even made some english leftist media speak up about opening the discussion to the UN. This was trascendental
Not that everyone was like that. Many were graceful losers so credit where credit is due. But I just find it funny(n't) that they find all these ways to demonize us about the malvinas that don't match up
Anyway. Malvinas argentinas y el que no salta es un inglés
There’s an entire literary genre built around the cosmopolitan who loves the Global South—as long as the Global South loses with elegance and dignity. Ishaan Tharoor has written a masterpiece in that genre.
He makes a list of the World Cup’s "charming countries": the Japanese cleaning the stadium, the kind Koreans, Vozinha, the noble loser. All lovable, endearing, unforgettable. All eliminated.
The truth is that this kind of picturesque admiration comes with conditions. The "other" is worth celebrating only as long as they remain endearing. And more often than not, they’re considered endearing because they lose and pose no threat to power.
Tharoor built his "love" for Argentina around its decline: hyperinflation, chaos, a team supposedly suffering from injustice. That’s an aesthetic relationship with the periphery. The moment the periphery stops being picturesque and starts winning, the toy breaks.
His use of Eduardo Galeano’s quote about Maradona and Napoli makes the point obvious: it celebrates a dark South humiliating the white North that had despised it. Then he uses that same quote to argue that Argentina is now the North. That’s where the unspoken assumption slips in: the South American who "looks" European somehow no longer counts as a victory for the Global South.
Argentina is part of the Global South whether he likes it or not. That isn’t something he gets to decide based on whether he finds the country sympathetic. On top of that, he argues that Argentina has become part of the establishment because Milei was supposedly going to be sitting next to Trump in the stands (which now doesn't even appear to be true). It’s exactly the opposite.
An Argentine invited to a stadium in New Jersey, sitting beside the people who hold power, is about as peripheral a scene as you can imagine.
Mistaking proximity for power is a basic analytical error. We were never less sovereign than when we were at our friendliest with those in power. The embrace is submission without friction—a surrender. The problem isn't that Argentina somehow became "bad." The reality is much simpler: Tharoor liked an Argentina that lost.
That says far more about him than it does about Argentina.
