I said something once and it didn’t really go very well
Where did you just go? It’s like you disappear…
FLEABAG || The only person I’d run through the airport for is you.
in these times i will not be shamed for laughing at ted cruz getting out of mandatory quarantine, immediately shaking hands with an infected person, and being forced right back into mandatory quarantine
Sherlock Jr. (1924) dir.buster keaton
Not anticipating the high pressure of the water, Buster was knocked to the ground, and landed with the back of his neck across one of the rails. At the time, accustomed to all manner of injuries, he barely registered the impact, getting up, running off, and finishing the scene. Years later, a doctor asked how he’d broken his neck, though he never realized he had, he eventually concluded this was the event that did it. He broke his neck, got up, and finished the fucking scene.
Buster Keaton, for instance, protested to the end of his days that he had no notion of what his admirers were talking about when they spoke, as Andrew Sarris did, of his “cerebral” qualities, or when they detected a pervasive surrealism in his films that - considering the period in which the films were made - virtually placed him in the avant-garde. "I was just trying to get laughs" was his constant and stubborn answer to questions. Keaton was, in fact, a brilliant analyst of film, as his dazzling film-within-a-film in Sherlock Jr. indicates: the sequence illustrates basic theories of continuity and cutting more vividly and with greater precision than theorists themselves have ever been able to do. But the analysis is not in Keaton’s head. It is in the film. He went past cerebration and worked only with the thing itself, creating what amounts to theory out of his body, his camera, his fingers, a pair of scissors. Art is often something done before it is something thought: Keaton’s impulses were not only stronger but more accurate than any verbal formulation he might have chosen to offer for them.
- Walter Kerr on film artist Buster Keaton, The Silent Clowns, Alfred A. Knopf: New York, 1975, p. 98
“Terrio added that Driver sprinkled various Harrison Ford elements throughout his own performance in the film, from the way he points in the face of General Hux, to the way he fires a blaster over his shoulder without looking, and finally the little open-handed shrug he gives the Knights of Ren before their last battle.
"That was actually a very conscious thing that J.J. and Adam talked about," Terrio said. "There could be subtle ways for you to see the ghost of Ben Solo in there somewhere, just his physicality. There are certain things like that in the movie that I see which I'm pretty convinced are Adam showing you what Ben Solo would have looked like before by showing what he inherited from his father."

"...the ghost of Ben Solo...just his physicality." I didn't think it was possible for these guys to make me more angry than I already was, but then they open their mouths and start talking.
same .... same...
Oh, that’s the context.
good dad
Homer was a real one.
So they took Poe Dameron… the first Hispanic Star Wars character… and made him a former drug dealer… even though his original backstory was that he had always been a pilot for the republic… and his parents were resistance fighters…
What the fuck
Holy shit I genuinely thought Poe was running around delivering paprika and cajun😂
Hahahahaha don’t feel bad, half the people I know thought that, too. Sadly, ‘spice’ is space heroin, and Poe is now a Latino drug runner. So….that happened 🙃
I think changing his backstory was stupid, and I don’t negate people having an issue with making the first Hispanic character a drug runner. Obviously that’s bullshit.
I will say however that Han was a drug runner as well. It’s what the whole “Kessel run” thing he talks about making in under 12 parsecs in the Cantina scene. Kessel is where the spice is mined. The reason why Jabba was after Han in ANH is because he had to drop his shipment of spice for Jabba because he was boarded by Imperials.
Poe was supposed to be the Han Solo of the new sequel trilogy, so I think it’s more JJ couldn’t resist making him even more like the original, because that’s that JJ does. And he probably didn’t think beyond that, because nostalgia seemed to be his main focus for his two SW films.
I wish we have gotten more Ben Solo in this trilogy and less Kylo Ren. The family sass on display.
