Siren's intro post!

Hi there! My name is Siren! I go by she/her or he/him. I'm a December capricorn and I'm here to be a jack of all trades! I'm 17 and I play the eletric guitar, accoustic guitar, and bass! I might do posts here and there, but I mostly want my blog to be about art and writing and things about OCs. Do ask about my worlds/stories! The fun thing about what I've made is that I want people to make OCs with mine! I always think its so fun to see what others can come up with and... the memes! I'm a beginner artist but I do want to do art collabs, both silly and serious where I can do art trades and those memes of I draw-you draw sort of things. Fun facts about me, though it isn't published, I did do this thing called NaNoWriMo and wrote a 30,000+ word novel. I think I had written an additonal 10,000-20,000 words! (I've sadly lost the file that had my novel saved which taught me to never save things on one website...) And my second fun fact is that I've taken a medical microbiology class and learned how to gram staining and other clinical tests which were really fun! I'm a little shy when it comes to being perceived (I'm working on it) but I do love making new friends/moots and yapping about my interests! For this summer the three fandoms I've joined have been:

Seriously lol for writing and art I really do want to do several things! For art I enjoy looking at and want to make my own: -Paintings -Pottery -Graffiti -Embroidery & sewing And for writing I already make: Short stories, essays, novels but I do want to try out poetry and screen plays! Its pretty ironic that I love to write but oh man I struggle with poetry because the grammatical structure rules for the various types of poems that aren't free verse or rhyme confuse me. I like biology, geology, speculative evolution, and planetary science and for genres: things with gothic elements, fantasy, science-fiction, horror, and a little bit of action-adventure here and there! I hope when people see my work, they see the elements of the media I like sort of sprinkled in! Actually while I'm thinking about it, I just wanna say that the more live-action remakes Disney shlups out like shoveled manure, the more amazed I am that Cinderella (2015) exists. It breaks literally every standard of Disney's LA remakes.

It's not a shot-for-shot remake of the original 1950 animated film, though it does include small references and homages to it, but only when such things can be incorporated organically into the story.

The creators understood and respected the cross-cultural significance of the Cinderella story. They didn't want to "fix" it, or add some wacky twist to it, they just wanted to make the best possible version of the Quintessential Cinderella that they could.

Everything that could be done practically was done practically. The carriage was a real, the horses pulling it were real, and all of the other animals (with the exception of the mice and lizards, since their performance was a lot more involved than the others') were real living animals, the lizard footman and goose carriage driver were wearing prosthetics instead of just having their animal features added in post, the Fairy Godmother's dress had little LED lights sewn into it so that it would actually glow for real, the ballroom set was built by hand and included real chandeliers with more than 2000 total candles that were all actually lit for the scene, and I could go on but you get the point.

There's a ton of attention paid to little details that make the world feel real and lived in. Ella's shoes are always a little scuffed and dirty. Her farm dress is faded and wrinkled. When she breaks down and runs away to the woods, she rides her horse bareback (which, once again, was a thing Lily James actually did, no stunt-double or editing in post), because not only is that something a country girl like her would know how to do, but it also makes sense that with as upset as she is, she wouldn't want to waste time with saddling the horse. When she's dancing with the prince, it's visually obvious that he is leading her and giving her cues because of course Ella wouldn't know the latest ballroom dances, and would need him to guide her through it.

Hey speaking of dancing, y'know what else this movie does that no other LA remake has been allowed to do (at least not to this extent)? ROMANCE. Land sakes alive, this is one of the most unabashedly and yet still tastefully romantic movies I've ever seen. Ella and Kit are just oozing romantic chemistry from the moment they lock eyes for the first time. It all comes down to the fact that these two characters both have the same core values of courage and kindness, which makes their admiration for each other feel grounded and believable. Richard Madden also really sells Kit's feelings for Ella with the way his eyes go all big and soft whenever he looks at her. And don't even get me started on Lily's performance as Ella. Her quiet awe that someone as powerful as the prince loves her. The timidity and fear that she's not really worthy of that. The selfless determination to protect him from her family's cruelty, even if it means she'll never see him again, I'm just-- *banging my fist against the table and screaming into a pillow*

Absolutely god-tier costume design. No notes, I think Sandy Powell's work speaks for itself. Btw, in case you were somehow still wondering, yes, Ella's ballgown is fully practical--those layers upon layers of dreamy silk skirts are real. CG was only used to brighten up the blue color to make her stand out from the crowd more.

Wicked stepmother was allowed to actually be wicked. The movie never tries to make you sympathize with Lady Tremaine, or shift the blame off to someone else. And her villainy is given an extra layer of depth with the reveal that she is a dark reflection of Ella. They've both lost people they loved, but where Ella refused to let her grief get in the way of kindness, Lady Tremaine became utterly consumed by it. She views the death of her first husband as a sort of twisted justification for pursuing all her worst impulses. She despises Ella for her ability to flourish even while enduring terrible suffering, for being everything Lady Tremaine was either unable or flat-out refused to be.

Also Cate Blanchet absolutely SLAYS in this role. Hands-down my favorite portrayal of the wicked stepmother character.

Anyways, TLDR: Cinderella (2015) is the only Disney live-action remake that can justify its own existence and that's because it actively defies everything the LA remakes are today.

I feel like coming of age queer media is great. But where are my TV series set in the summer about the teenagers or twenty somethings who know who they are? Who want to fall in love, do crazy things, etc.? I want drama shows where the summer setting is specifically important because of summer being such a big season and also a time for fun and relaxing AND we have queer main characters, maybe a friend group. My mom watches stuff like Life With The Walter Boys and I feel envious that as far as I know, there isn't any media where we have characters who are secure and know who they are. I do really, really relate to figuring out who you are. But I've moved past that. And I'm just confident in myself but I still haven't found the kind of people that aren't energy vampires, not yet. I don't know I just really want a 6-10 episode one season series that makes you emotion at the end with well written character arcs, decent photography, a nice soundtrack, and the fact that these characters are queer but its not something that others them, but simply a fact part of their lives.

OC ramble, part 3! (Should I just change it to OC lore?)

Apologies that part 3 is so small it was meant to be in one post but then the post got too big...

And then this is where the elder gods come in- Our star god takes these souls and cuts away and reshapes them in his realm. When he first became something humanoid he took a liking to earth's tigers and snakes. Its sort of like how in popular beliefs, people imagine angels to be winged humanoids that are otherwise human. Its sort of like that among his court except for a mortal, an untouched soul is a ball of light and when the star god gets his claws on that soul, the shape changes. The person's ghostly form changes with it and its very, very painful. So far, I've just talked about our supposed 'good' entity. These rival gods shatter souls owned by the star god: completely. (in the court we have the concubines, the nobles aka rock collection who are literally meant to be pretty and blessed, and the guards. These guards are the ones sent to battle! And experience a great terrible body horror and madness, even as nothing but a soul!) The rival gods turn souls into fragments. Memories are gone, everything mentioned above, are mostly just gone with literally fractions of What Once Was instead being in their place. And the blessings the star god once gave his souls explode until we have these creatures that are souls but not human and not capable of independent thought. Parastin is the one goddess to mend souls and undo the mutations caused by the rival gods, but all the damage they take gets worse and worse.  And technically these souls turned guards aren't really necessary. Its a game of war that the Star god and Parastin play against the elder gods and their allies. The guards do help in battling  but only against the minor gods from across the cosmos and planets. The beings that play this game of chess taunt and threaten. On a cosmic scale, the war is a cold one. His Eminence and his sister Parastin have never been attacked... yet. But the duo of first ones know that they're not truly safe in their planetary creations they've so gleefully crafted.

Part three will be about the rival gods, one of their many planets they rule which is the opposite to the Moon of Sin, and the irony when it comes to their society when it comes to things like family and trivial things. Thanks for reading this!

OC ramble, part 2!

Growing up, I read and watched fairytales and Disney movies. And then the past three(?) years, I got into gothic fiction! Plus, I read more folklore stories from around the world and then I had The Owl House as my inspiration too, specifically "Understanding Willow" from season one, episode 15. And the mind is a person's sanity and logic. It defines their ability to adapt and understand situations. I've compiled there to be nine components that make a person a person, not necessarily purely human, but human like. Together, these nine things create something called an essence. This applies to the majority of sapient and sentient beings. The heart, soul, mind, memories, shadow, body, conscience, voice, and spirit. But Siren, some of these all sound the same?! That's where you're wrong, when it comes to my world's definition.

Body: Material vessel, physical experience.

Soul: The total person/combination of mind, will, and emotions.

Spirit: The "breath of life," divine connection, core essence.

Heart: Center of feelings, intuition, and intentions.

Mind: The intellect, processor of thoughts and consciousness.

Memories: The recorded experiences (mental and cellular).

Shadow: Unconscious/hidden self requiring integration as well as what the conscious self could potentially be. . 

Conscience: The inner moral compass that discerns right from wrong, guiding choices through an interplay of intuition, values, and internalized principles.

Voice:  Self-expression and the ability to impose oneself on reality.

Think of the essence either as a body or a treasure chest! I personally think of it as a body and how the body is made up of different things that all work together to make a living organism because I'm in medical classes lol but a simpler analogy is a treasure chest!  Inside of the essence there is what I've listed above. The soul is a box within this box (the essence) which holds the mind, spirit, heart, conscience and voice. When one has their soul stolen or sold we lose that box within the essence, but now everything it was containing is jumbled about. This basically messes up a being, but they're sort of mostly still functional bUT ITS NOT RECOMMENDED- 

Now that we have that explained, let me talk more about my OC the Star god, His Eminence. I don't have much world building y e t haha when it comes to the gods of death but basically we do have necromancers in my world. 

When a necromancer doesn't pay the proper offering, or any tributes to a death god for that matter, the star god has his domain over a being's soul. The Star god is a collector. Every soul is unique. Its a joke between my friend and I, souls are His rock collection. Some souls are more beautiful than others and like rocks, there can be different types thus having souls with similarities but are not completely the same. 

Anyways so the necromancer brings a person back for whatever reason. And sometimes, this doesn't even work! With the eldritch/stars gods being magical radiation, His Eminence himself doesn't know if blessing will be succesful or not. Sometimes a necromancer can do the ritual and it just never works and its disappointing for everyone all around, save for the poor victim being brought back to life to do the necromancer's bidding. 

As I was saying about the Star god's role in this conversation! He rips souls from their mortal vessels (their bodies). The soul is like a magical organ, or the box that holds everything, and in this instance, the magical equivalent of a spine! The process is horrifying. It robs from the dead, it takes away a being's ability to have autonomy in many ways. 

There's a saying: the mind forgets but the body remembers. After this process has happened what is left are the remnants of a soul. The remnants are known as embers, ashes, seams, or shards. It depends on what the soul was once like before it was violently ripped away by the Star god. This is only part II, I'm going to have to make a part 3 and 4 because it turns out I had written about 6000 characters and went over the limit WHOOPs

Little update. I'm going to be honest in the past, I'd get motivated but then I'd genuinely struggle, get frustrated, and then give up. And I was kind of feeling that way today. I still really want to do artfight but its hard because I don't know the basics of art. I know what they are its just, I struggle really badly actually incorporating them, if that makes sense? And I can't really reach out to any friends which makes this whole process a lot harder. I hope I'll figure out, I just feel bad that I haven't made any results... at all.
