Self indulgence instead of doing things I need to do full speed ahead-
If years ago you'd been asked where you saw yourself in ten or so years. You would have said that you'd be back home in your world. Having returned to the life you'd left behind when dragged into a world full of magic and wonder. However that was far from the case if your current life said anything about it. Deep in a quiet, small village in the countryside of Twisted Wonderland. A small house resides within it, and it is a modest one. With a beautiful garden full of flowers within the front yard, large trees that surround the home and a vegetable garden in the backyard. On one of the vast trees that sit in this yard, a homemade swing is attached to one of its thick branches. A site used for the tiny resident that resides within this beautiful home. Vines cover the outside bricks of said building giving it character for the family inside.
Within this home, is filled with markings and proof of a place filled with love and warmth. Its walls having witnessed the family inside most important moments. From cozy nights snuggling by the fireplace in the living room, to emotional arguments and playful bickering to whispered words of either apologies or love. To the birth of the child that slowly begins to awaken in her room. Just down the hall from her parents that sleep closely to one another. The rays of the morning dawn slowly crawling into the bedroom where two figures lay peacefully. It's here that you with your beloved husband Silver sleep. His arms wrapped around you, warm and solid and comforting. You snuggle into his bare chest, the world of the living slowly beginning to bring you to join it. (E/C) hues slowly peek open as the gentle sunshine fills your shared room. Sleepily taking in the sight of Silver who's still asleep.
Now a bit more awake you truly process the man before you, taking in his features. Still handsome and beautiful just as he'd been during his school years. His face peaceful and changed, the years having matured him. Just as they'd done for you. You stare at him, eyes soft and fond. You felt him shift, as if he sensed your adoring stare. Gorgeous eyes slowly begin to open, reminding you of shimmering amethyst gems. Silver looks at you, a warm, sleepy smile coming onto his face. It's natural the way the two of you meet, your lips to his. A kiss full of warmth and affection despite just waking up exchanged between the two of you. You feel your heart flutter, and beneath your palm you feel his heart do the same. After a moment you both pull away, slightly breathless.
"Good morning love."
Your voice makes his eyes soften, and in a deep, sleepy voice he wishes you a good morning as well. The room is quiet, the two of you waking up a bit more, but the quiet doesn't last too long. The soft sounds of feet patterning on the floor draws closer to your room and soon the bedroom door opens. You and Silver look towards the doorway, catching sight of the last remaining member of your family. A little girl with beautiful silver locks and (E/C) hues peeks in, her round face wide awake and seeking both your husband and you. Her eyes land on the two of you, sparkling with that childish innocence and joy when she sees you're both awake. You start to sit up, Silver following your lead as your daughter toddles into the bedroom. Her chubby hands reaching for you two. You don't hesitate to reach back, grabbing her as soon as she's within reach. Earning a delighted giggle from the child.
"Good morning Aurora, my sweet little flower."
You cooed making her hug you, snuggling her little face against your chest.
"Morning mommy!"
Is the chiming response. You hear Silver huff slightly, playful. Aurora heard it, her head turning to look at him, before immediately making grabby hands at him.
"Daddy! Daddy! Morning daddy!"
She squealed as Silver took her from you. Settling her in between the two of you. Silver's expression becomes unbearably tender, much like how Lilia's gets when he recalls his sons and their childhoods. Pressing a big kiss on her cheek causing her to squirm and giggle.
"Good morning my darling starlight."
You watch the two, heart overflowing with love and happiness. Aurora's hand reached out and gripped your pjs, trying to pull you closer. You go with her willingly, causing her to get sandwiched between the two of you. Both of you hugging her tightly, one of her favorite things to do each morning. It wasn't long before the three of you finally crawled out of bed. Aurora held safely in Silver's arms as you get up to start heading downstairs with them to get started on breakfast. A start to another day with the two people you loved most in the world and who loved you back just as much. As breakfast brought life back into the house, the sounds of Silver's soft voice and Aurora's chiming laugh surrounding you, you can't help but think about the past. About that answer to that hypothetical question. Knowing that without a shadow of a doubt, that you'd never been more happy to be wrong. If it meant seeing your daughter's smile, and your husband's soft adoring stares that he saves only for you. It was more than worth it.
A house resides deep within a quiet village, now being filled with the sounds of the family inside awake. The love and warmth filling its halls as it had for years. And as it would for many years to come.
That was a question Sebek found himself asking a lot these days. From the moment you two met and started your strange friendship with one another. You have for some reason stuck around him. Everything he said, everything he did, you were there, looking at him like he was something worthwhile. It confused him, irritated him and left him floundering at times. He knew he wasn't the best kind of company, he was loud and could be hard headed. He could get snippy and defensive and smug, so much so that it made it incredibly hard for others to approach him. Sebek knew these supposed shortcomings, knew how they affected the people's perception around him. Not that he cared, they weren't Lilia or Silver or Malleus, who's opinions mattered to him.
In his eyes they weren't worth the extra effort to worry over. That however changed when you came into the picture. You who spoke to him with a nonchalantance, you who wasn't afraid to speak out and call him out when you felt he was being too harsh. You with your unbearable warmth and surprising patience. You who looked at him like he was a person. It was something Sebek tried not to dwell on, though a lot of times he failed to do so. That glaringly obvious fact that he wasn't a complete fae nor a complete human. A child from both worlds, isolated from them. Forever on the outside of both places, with no place for people like him. It was a fact in his life, a lonely life that he was born into. Never truly accepted by human nor fae, save for his elders whom accompanied him from Briar Valley. Yet you......
You accepted him. Despite his round ears and reptilian eyes and sharp fangs. You hadn't even flinched at the very things that separated him from both humans and fae. Instead accepting them and still remaining by his side. It was bewildering, it was maddening. It was so very you. Sebek's gaze found itself drifting towards you, taking in the sight. You, born with no magic and from an entirely different world, who had helped and saved countless students from disaster. Was currently sitting next to him, completely content. There was no worry on your face, just a peaceful calm that seemed to seep through when you were with him. Your hand, intertwined with his, was comforting. Comforting in a way he hadn't really felt in his lifetime. Looking at you, Sebek always asked himself what exactly you saw in him that made you stay. And still to this day he doesn't know what the answer to that question is but.......
If it was something you wanted, he'd give it to you. He'd give you his company, give you his hand to hold. As long as you were wanting to stay by his side, Sebek would give it all. If it meant seeing your smile and hearing your voice calling his name, then he'd do it for as long as you shall live. Because it was you. And there was no one else like you.
There was something about the thing you did that brought you a rush of thrills and satisfaction. From the planning everything out stages of early development, to the final product. You sat in one of the empty rooms in your dorm, a perfect setting for what you were about to do. One of the small blessings of residing in a place such as Ramshackle. Looking over your equipment, you made sure everything was up and running correctly. With an almost jittery like energy, you took a steadying breath. Tonight was the night, you were going to do it. It'd been too long since you've done this, you'd miss this dearly and you weren't gonna back down now. Another breath in, you grab your headphones and set up your mic. Your old phone from your world connected to the computer you were using to do this.
The story, one of your favorites from your world, laid displayed on the computer screen. Ready for you to read the story and do your commentary. Doing one last checkup of everything and making sure no ghosts or Grim was in the room, you finally settled in.
"It's showtime......"
Heartslabyul was quiet, save for one person who was currently in bed awake. His headphones were in his ears, his attention grabbed by what he was hearing. He'd stumbled upon it when doing a late night Magicam scroll, unable to sleep unlike his roommate Trey who was fast asleep. Green eyes stared at the screen on his phone, his eyes not really focused on the reels like they usually were. In fact it was mindless fiddling at this point, a rare thing for someone like Cater. But he couldn't help it, the voice in his headphones was captivating. And what they were telling, was bone chilling in a way he hadn't felt in a very long time.
"I reached for the door, the knob feeling strange and otherworldly in my grasp. Flesh like instead of the normal cool metal I was used too. I reeled my hand back, disgusted and horrified by the sensation. My brain screaming alarm bells as I noticed that it wasn't just the knob that was made of flesh. The entire door was made of it, sickly looking yet alive. It was spreading....."
Cater felt his hand grip his blanket. The voice, telling this horror story, bringing the visuals to life in a way he hadn't experienced in awhile. And what was even more unsettling was he knew the voice speaking through his headphones. The voice that was currently live on a new podcast he'd stumbled upon while doing his late night routine. It was your voice, a voice he heard every single day, now weaving a tale about doors made of living flesh that consumed. Slowly spreading throughout a usually welcome setting, now alien and unfamiliar. Cater glanced at his screen noting that there was a live chat going on with your podcast. Users of all sorts of backgrounds and platforms were commenting. All of them sucked into the story as much as he was.
Gloomuari: Omg, omg I'm not sleeping tonight this is gonna keep me up all night. 😭
Girlypop22: I can't stop listening I'm on the edge of my seat! Holy shit...!
Red Muscle: Kehehe this really is quite a tale......even I'm becoming unsettled.
As well as several others continued. For a first time podcast you were getting quite a listening group already, and Cater could get why. You were an amazing storyteller, using the story that was given to you to weave it to life to make the red head actually feel the need to look around his room occasionally. As if he was expecting to see the eldritch horror you were describing, coming to life in reality instead of in a story. You continued, your voice having his full attention, his skin prickling with tension as the story began to reach its climax......
"Cater it's 1AM what are you-"
The question wasn't heard but the hand that patted his shoulder was certainly felt. Cater let out a startled loud shriek which in turn startled the person who had tapped his shoulder to get his attention. Cater whipped his head to the side, ripping off his headphones to see a now equally spooked and dumbfounded Trey looking at him. Cater felt his face slowly heat up as his racing heart calmed down from the near heart attack Trey gave him.
"Uh I was listening to a podcast......also please don't do that again, it'd tots suck if I died young from a heart attack."
Cater finally uttered, still shaken. Trey quirked an eyebrow at that, lost.
"What could be so interesting that you're awake listening to it at 1 in the morning....?"
"Oh well I'll show you!"
The red head smiled, relieved to not have attention be drawn to his uncool scream. Holding out an earbud towards Trey for him to listen. The green haired teen looked at the offered ear bud before finally sighing in a resigned way. Settling himself onto Cater's bed to listen better as he pushed the one bud in, his roommate doing the same. Trey's resignation changed to curiosity as he was greeted by none other than your voice. About to ask Cater if it was actually you, he stopped when he saw that he'd already had his attention back on the audio he was listening too. Trey deciding to do the same focused in on your voice, and what exactly you were saying.
"The floors, the ceiling, the furniture, everything that was once recognizable was now nothing more than living flesh. My home, once something I'd been intimately familiar with was now a maze of flesh and veins and teeth and hair. There was no end to it...."
Trey felt the hair on the back of his neck stand at the description, unnerved by it. Yet, he too much like Cater found himself listening to your retelling of what was obviously a scary story. Entranced and unnerved by the descriptions and storytelling you gave. Yet delightful in a way like when a kid would go trick or treating to the spookiest house in the neighborhood, or telling ghost stories by the campfire. Both boys listened quietly, like so many others were. In what felt like all too soon the story ended, and with it came your voice as you gave your thoughts and explained your favorite parts of the tale. Again giving credit to the writer from your world and ending your podcast with a chipper, sweet voice.
"Thank you for listening, be sure to give this podcast a like or save and I hope to see y'all return to the Devil's Den. Until next time my dear listeners......"
You sat back in your chair, the podcast now ended and feeling accomplished and energized in a way you haven't felt in awhile since coming to Twisted Wonderland. You'd seen the comments on the live, a sense of pride and bittersweet nostalgia hitting you. Recalling your career back in your world, while saddened to have to start over, you were more excited and thrilled to be able to share the horror experience with your listeners. Shutting it down for the night you stretched, cracking your joints a bit before going towards your room to join Grim to get some sleep. Marking the start of your new occupation in Twisted Wonderland. Unaware that the next day Cater would be recommending your podcast to his friends Kalim and Lilia. And that Trey would share it with Riddle and the A-Deuce duo. Sparking the start of your listeners growing into a following.
Kalim had many habits. Some of them were good ones, ones that helped him and others out. And some that weren't that great. And then there were some that was a horrible amalgamation of both, depending on the situation. One of those habits that were of both was paying attention to people around him. More specifically paying closer attention to them when he was alone. It'd been a habit that he'd had since he was young. Before he'd had Jamil placed as his personal bodyguard, a habit that had developed when he'd become a big brother for the first time. When Kalim was alone, with no Jamil around to be those watchful eyes, he'd taken up it up. Spending a lifetime having to watch not only his younger siblings but for people that could be out to hurt him or someone he cared about. It'd been installed in him to keep an eye on people. Especially people who were younger than him. Minajael and Najma would often tease him sometimes for it, and Jamil would have to remind him that he didn't need to do it. Since keeping an eye on people was supposed to be his job, not Kalim's. Unfortunately old habits died hard and while he didn't use it much these days, he still had it. Some days it helped him, other days it didn't. And some days like that day, it'd ended up becoming that combination of both good and bad.
Potions class was a class that Kalim surprisingly didn't share with Jamil. One of the few where he was alone without him. The class that day was rather lively, with students chatting as they waited for Professor Crewel to call for attention. The white haired teen took note of the table in front of him, immediately noticing the various plants that were arranged next to the cauldron. Kalim scanned the plants, noting which ones were poisonous and which ones were safe. Another habit he'd developed when he was young. After Jamil had gotten poisoned when they'd been young, Kalim had taken it upon himself to learn about plant life and its vast uses. He knew which ones could kill a grown man and which ones could heal, which ones that could be eaten and which ones that could soothe aches and pains. He knew well to be cautious with these plants that appeared harmless at first glance. It was because of this, that he found that old habit of paying attention sharpen more. Determined to not cause any mistakes. He'd both lived and seen what mistakes like that could do.
"Alright pups listen up! Today's assignment will be a potion that'll help strengthen your memory. It's a tricky one, so you'd better pay close attention to what you're doing. If you don't, you will fail. Now to start...."
Professor Crewel spoke, assigning the class into partners. Kalim was assigned to another student from a different dorm, and soon the class was sent off to do their work. And it was during this, that Kalim's habit had caught the oncoming catastrophe. His partner, having been too busy to notice what he was grabbing had picked up one specific plant. A plant that Kalim knew immediately was the wrong one. At a glance the bright colored blossom looked exactly like the harmless one that was needed for the potion. However a deeper look and with a skilled eye, it was clear it was not the one that was harmless. Its coloring slightly off than the one they'd needed. Kalim who had been paying attention and knew this particular flower knew two things immediately.
One the flower was relatively harmless as long as it remained as such.
And two said flower despite its mostly harmless nature could in fact be extremely volatile if it was mixed with certain ingredients.
Ingredients that were currently in their boiling cauldron.
"WAIT-"
Kalim's shout caused several heads to turn, startled by the panicked tone of the usually sunny dorm leader. His warning came too late and as soon as that bright colored blossom hit the liquid the reaction was instantaneous. The potion once calm, began to let out a loud sizzling hissing sound. Kalim didn't think about his movements, he just acted on instinct. As an elder brother and dorm leader, Kalim acted as such, grabbing his lab partner with surprisingly quick reflexes. Effectively shielding the other boy just as their pot erupted into a bright colored volcano of firey liquid. Spilling straight onto the teen in firing range. Pain, sharp and blinding hit Kalim's back and shoulders. The potion burning him from how hot it was. In an instant the classroom exploded into chaos.
"Kalim!"
A few voices shouted in concern and shock. Professor Crewel immediately raised his voice, commanding the students to go out into the hallway. Kalim heard voices, rushed and panicked. But he couldn't make out what they were saying. Not with the sudden pounding headache and nausea that hit him.
'This is bad.....this is really bad......'
He felt himself begin to collapse, the room spinning in a blur of nauseating colors and sounds.
'Is this how I'm going to die....?'
Everything was hurting, he couldn't think. He felt his chest constrict in a way that made his breathing come out in a horrid wheezing. Faces flashed in his mind. His parents, his siblings and friends. Minajael, Najma.
Jamil.
'Jamil......oh seven if I die what will happen to Jamil......?
Kalim felt the world begin to fade along with the noise and chaos.
'I'm sorry Jamil......even in death I can't seem to make things easier for you.......'
Was the last thing Kalim thought before being consumed by darkness.
Today felt off for Jamil. From the moment he'd woken up in Scarabia to waking Kalim up as well, Jamil had had this odd terrible feeling. One that seemed to have made itself home deep in him, ominously sitting in wait. It was a feeling that had made him tense, like a spring that had been wound too tightly. He couldn't help but find himself looking out for his and Kalim's surroundings. Being scarily silent at breakfast as this pit seemed to grow in the background. Kalim shockingly didn't ask Jamil what was wrong, seeming to sense that his vice dorm leader wasn't in the mood to talk about it. Jamil continued the morning as usual, Kalim going off to get ready on his own. Something he'd started doing after Jamil's overblot back during winter break. It was only after the duo, dressed and ready to attend one of their first classes together did the feeling became a thought.
'Something terrible is going to happen today.'
It was a thought that shook Jamil slightly. Foreboding and menacing in some strange way. Almost damning. The morning passed by in a blur for the boy, and soon it was time for the two teenagers to go to one of the rare separate classes each attended. Kalim would be going to potions, while Jamil would be attending PE. Jamil watched as Kalim walked into Professor Crewel's classroom, joined shortly after by Silver. The two falling into conversion in no time, leaving Jamil alone in the hall to watch them disappear into the classroom.
'Stop him. Don't let him out of your sight, something awful is going to happen if he leaves it.'
Jamil felt his chest tighten at the thought, banishing it from his mind. He didn't know why he didn't want Kalim suddenly out of his sight, but he felt ridiculous for it. In a somewhat forced manner, Jamil walked down the crowded hallway. Not looking back, in fear that he might turn back around and go get Kalim. There wasn't a need to keep the other boy in his sight all the time. Kalim had made it pretty clear that Jamil could leave him be for a class. And so he walked, straight to Coach Vargas' class. Trying to not give into the mounting unease that was building.
Everything was fine.
There was no need for Jamil to get so worked up. Kalim was almost a grown man, he didn't need babysat 24/7. Not that Jamil wanted to do so anyway. It'd be fine. Looking back on it, Jamil couldn't help but want to strangle himself for ignoring his gut. For ignoring that feeling of discomfort and unease. Because as soon as he'd stepped back into the building, accompanied by Azul who was yapping about some thing or another. It'd become very clear that something was seriously wrong. As he stepped towards Professor Crewel's classroom Jamil noticed that it was crowded. Students from Kalim's class was outside, talking and obviously shaken by something.
"My, my. This is rather unusual..."
Azul's voice muttered from next to him, but Jamil wasn't paying attention to the merman. No he was paying attention to the conversations that were occurring.
"I can't believe that happened....."
"It looked really bad....."
"I didn't think the Scarabia dorm leader could even move that quickly."
"Professor Crewel I've never seen him so livid."
"What do you expect? Someone got seriously hurt-"
Jamil felt his ears ring. His entire body freezing on the spot.
Someone got hurt. Students stunned by Kalim moving so fast. Professor Crewel furious.......
'Something terrible is going to happen today.'
Jamil didn't even realize he was moving till he heard one of the students let out a startled shout and Azul suddenly saying his name stunned. Dark grey eyes bore into the student.
"What in seven's name is going on?"
It was said in a tone that demanded answers. Tight and barely keeping itself from completely losing it. The student he'd grabbed seemed to pale when he'd realized it was Jamil Viper who'd grabbed him.
"There.....there was an accident in the potions lesson today. We don't know what happened exactly, just that one minute we were all doing the assignment and the next thing we knew Kalim-Senpai had shouted and his and his lab partners cauldron exploded. It....the contents they'd uh......"
Jamil felt his stomach sink. Realizing what the student was afraid to say out loud. Letting go of the student Jamil whirled around, practically taking off down the hallway. Leaving Azul and the other students behind. One destination in mind. He had to get to the infirmary.
He had to get to Kalim now.
Today had been a pleasant day. At least in the beginning. Classes had went smoothly, and all was well if a bit mundane. Not that he'd minded much. A mundane day was practically paradise for someone of his status. However that picture perfect illusion of a pleasant day was shattered by a single phone call. He didn't get them often, his family at home being too busy with ruling the Scalding Sands and most of his friends being at Royal Sword Academy with him. Though he did get some occasionally from the school across the way, Night Raven College to be exact. So when he'd received a phone call from an unfamiliar number he'd answered it. Expecting a wrong number or something of the like. What he hadn't been expecting was to get a call from one of the staff of Night Raven College.
Much less one from their infirmary.
Now Minajael Tealrajah found himself sitting in the infirmary in Night Raven College. His dark brown eyes, rimmed red a bit, staring at the form of his cousin Kalim Al-Asim. His cousin was now awake, Professor Crewel and the school's headmaster Crowley was in the room with them. Asking the Scarabia dorm leader questions as they examined him closely. Minajael sat nearby, taking in the bandages on Kalim's back and shoulders. Relieved that the other boy despite his injuries seemed fine. The prince had been called to the school a bit ago, back when Kalim was unconscious. Because Minajael was Kalim's emergency contact for things such as this. Minajael hadn't said a word, still processing the information he'd been told. According to Professor Crewel, the potion that had doused his cousin was so far unknown. Due to how quickly everything had transpired Crewel hadn't had a chance to actually look at the contents of the failed potion. More concerned with getting Kalim medical attention at the time. Now that everything was settled Crewel had begun to ask Kalim questions. All of them seeming to relieve both the potions teacher and headmaster.
"And you recognize the young man next to you yes?"
Crowley asked gesturing to Minajael who now tuned in more.
"Yes of course! It's Minajael my cousin! Why wouldn't I recognize him?"
Kalim's response was chipper, despite the obvious discomfort he was in from the burns. Crowley was about to ask another question when the infirmary door swung open. A blur of red and brown flying in. Heaving and looking a bit unsettled was none other than Jamil Viper.
"Kalim! What the hell happened?! Are you-"
Jamil began to question when Minajael stepped in, a cutting glare aimed right at the other boy.
"Where the hell were you?! Aren't you supposed to keep an eye on him!? You've got a lot of nerve Viper-!"
Minajael spat, his temper flaring a bit. Frazzled from the call and seeing Kalim hurt to now seeing Jamil shooting off questions to an already unsettled Kalim. Had pushed a button in Minajael. Jamil snapped his mouth shut, grey hues meeting dark brown a snappy retort on the tip of his tongue.
"Um......I'm sorry but......how do you know my name? Have we met before?"
Kalim's voice broke the building argument. Silencing the entire room. Several eyes turned towards Kalim, naked shock on their faces.
"What-? What do you mean have we met before?? Of course we have we grew up together! What are you even-"
Jamil began to sputter knocked out of his shock before stopping when he noticed Kalim's expression. For as long as Jamil had known Kalim, he'd never looked at him the way he did now. Not even after the overblot during winter break. Kalim's eyes, usually warm and full of mirth were dulled. Guarded and hesitant. Untrusting and suspicious of Jamil. There was no friendly warmth in that gaze. Just discomfort and unease. Aimed at him.
"Asim, do you truly not recognize Viper? He's your classmate and vice dorm leader."
Crewel said, a dawning, grim look coming onto his face. Kalim's gaze flickered to the teacher, before shaking his head no in confirmation that he didn't recognize Jamil. Minajael reached over to grasp Kalim's hand, the protective anger towards Jamil now dimmed to a protective concern.
"Kalim......that's Jamil. Najma's older brother. We all grew up together."
Minajael said voice soft and concerned. Jamil watched as Kalim's eyes sparked with recognition at Najma's name.
"Najma? Najma Viper? Since when did she have a sibling? Wasn't she an only child?"
Jamil's gut twisted.
'Something terrible is going to happen today.'
That feeling was right. In the worst way possible.
A bit of a disclaimer this fic is based loosely on the Nutcracker story seeing as how I'm not quite confident in translating a classic ballet performance to an actual story line. I can only hope I did this justice! I don't know if I'll make a sequel to this, we will see how this goes. Anyways I hope y'all enjoy!
Christmas, it was a magical season within your home. Family and friends would come, bringing good tidings and cheer. You stare at the living room, memorized by the twinkling lights and tinsel of silver and gold. You could hear the sounds of your younger siblings laughter and your parents, and other relatives talking. You tear your eyes away from the beautiful sight and aim your gaze towards the present your beloved uncle had just given you. The box was wrapped in shimmering red wrapping paper, a bright golden ribbon on top of it. Your uncle had given it to you, a gleam in his eye as he told you Merry Christmas before going to chat with the other adults. Your fingers gently play with the wrapping, carefully undoing the shining red square present. Beneath the colorful lights and comforting Christmas tree you opened it. Revealing a box.
Curious you reached for the lid and opened it, the true gift inside causing your breath to catch. Nestled within velvety fabric, staring at you with grey painted eyes was a nutcracker. The nutcracker was beautiful, dressed in a dazzling uniform of red, and silver. A sword placed on his hip, and his hat large and festive just like his uniform. You caught hints of bright red wood beneath said hat, realizing that it was supposed to be his hair. His expression was stern and serious but in a way it fit him quite well.
"Uncle really went all out this year......you're lovely."
You muttered, tenderly pulling your nutcracker out of his box. With a tentative hand, you moved his arm, causing his wooden mouth to open up. A small smile came onto your face, immediately endeared to him. You'd only had your present for a few moments and it already had become your favorite. You were so taken by the nutcracker you'd failed to hear your younger sibling come in, his high pitched voice drawing your attention.
"Whoa! A nutcracker! Can I see it?"
He asked gaze zoned in on your gift. You quickly opened your mouth to tell him no, to explain that the nutcracker was a delicate gift only to have him try and grab it. What ensued was a slight scuffle and with one harsh pull you heard the sound of wood creaking. Your brother froze, expression clouding with guilt.
"Oops...."
He said voice small as you saw the damaged arm of your nutcracker. You sucked in a sharp breath, fighting the urge to lose your temper with him as you caught his guilty face. His remorse plain as day.
"This is why I didn't want you to mess with him!"
You scolded frustration leaking into your tone as you managed to get the wooden man back from your brother. Accessing the damage done, you breathed a small sigh of relief at his arm still being attached. Though it was clear to see that it wasn't as sturdy as it originally had been. Frowning a bit you gingerly move his arm, trying to figure out a way to fix it before an idea struck.
"You want to make it up to me? Help me find a piece of good cloth. I have an idea."
You bargained with your brother earning a quick nod at the chance to make it up to you. After a few moments of looking around your living room, you'd finally found the tiny piece of cloth. You skilled, steady hands you made a makeshift wrap around your nutcracker's loosened arm. A temporary fix till you could actually fix him. Your younger sibling apologized to you again as he watched you work, and you let out a sigh of eldest sibling exhaustion before ruffling his hair. Warning him to not touch your things anymore. He smiled at you, a missing tooth peeking at you before he bounded away to go back to playing with your other siblings and cousins. Once again leaving you alone with your nutcracker. Gaze softening in apology you place your gift on the stand above the fireplace.
"Forgive him, he's excitable for his age. He didn't mean to do it. I'll make sure you're fixed up in no time."
You promised. The nutcracker didn't respond, but you could have sworn there was a twinkling sparkle in the grey depths. You blinked, unsure if it was the Christmas lights from the tree or your imagination. Putting it aside for later thought, you made sure he was sturdy before going back to enjoy the festivities of the holiday.
🩰🎄❄️🩰🎄❄️🩰🎄❄️🩰🎄❄️
Christmas while festive and fun could also be whimsical and quiet. It had been several hours since your family had their Christmas celebration and you'd gotten your nutcracker. The house which was once full of life and warmth was now dark and quiet. All the lights were turned off, save for your Christmas tree in the living room. The quiet ticking of the grandfather clock filled the house, which now laid slumbering in warm beds. The snow outside softly floated down from the sky, piling up on window panes. Downstairs in the living room your nutcracker stood on the fireplace stand, while you yourself had fallen asleep on the sofa. A book long forgotten sitting in your lap as you slept. Dreams filled with snowflakes and wintery sights.
The clock continued on, it's ancient keys slowly going towards midnight. The sudden ding of the clock finally striking twelve filled the house. The residents sleeping through it, having gotten used to it throughout the years of owning it. As you slept away on the sofa, the nutcracker on your stand twitched. As a flash of light came from the farthest corner of the living room. Buried behind furniture and festive decorations and presents, a mouse hole filled with light. Tiny pitter patters of feet filled the night as mice began to pour out of the hole. They walked further into the living room, eyeing the presents and tree, tiny swords attached to their hips as they began their invasion. Searching for something. The something in question now sitting away hidden from view with his sword drawn despite his loosened arm. A larger mouse came through the hole, his face stained in a nasty look.
"Find him, and bring him to me."
He said, voice low and full of authority. The smaller rodents beside him nodded before scurrying off to search. Grey hues watched as the mice scattered into the living room, while you remained fast asleep. Oblivious to what was going on. Gaze narrowing, he gripped his sword, knowing it was only a matter of time before he was discovered by the rodents and their king. With quiet, clinking steps he made his way to the ledge of the fireplace he sat on. Being careful not to be seen just yet. A gloved wooden hand reached out towards tinsel, to use it to get down. However before he could grab it he heard a screech.
He'd been found.
Whirling around the he braced himself as his trusty sword was met with another. The mouse solider pushed against him, in an attempt to gain an upper hand in the fight. But he refused to lose. With a grunt he pushed back, causing his enemy to stumble backwards and slip off the ledge. He squeaked in surprise, pine wheeling before tumbling right into the Christmas tree. The force of his body causing the glass ornaments to shake and fall shattering against the hard wooden floors. Drawing the attention of other rodent soliders and their king as well as you. Once deep in the realm of dreams, your were awakened by the sounds of glass shattering. With a slight mumble you slowly sat up, rubbing your eyes to get the sleep out of them. Confused by the noise. Blinking sleepily, your (E/C) hues caught sight of movement across the floor. Taking a moment to adjust your eyesight you couldn't help but let out a gasp at the mice. Only these weren't like any mice you'd ever seen in your life. Before you could question if you were awake or not, you heard the sound of a grunt and snapped towards it. There on your Christmas tree, clinging to tinsel was your nutcracker. His damaged arm was holding his sword as the mice started to climb to get to him. You stood up, not thinking about it as you rushed to help him. Failing to see the mouse king.
"LOOK OUT-"
Your nutcracker called out noticing the king. But it was too late. With a wave of his staff, a burst of magic shot out hitting you. Soon you were no taller than the very mice that were running around on your floor and on your Christmas tree. Startled by the sudden change you stumbled a bit.
"What-!?"
Your question was cut off by a sword coming towards you. You ducked to avoid getting your head taken off, tripping in a tumbling way. Panicked you scooted backwards, confused and disoriented by the fast pace of everything before the mouse attacking you was kicked backwards. Your nutcracker who had been hanging on to the tinsel, had used it to not only escape his own attackers but to also swing down to the ground to get to you. The nutcracker now stood in front of you, his sword drawn.
"Are you alright?"
He asked glancing at you. You could only nod scrambling to stand up, and prepare yourself to defend against this fight. You and your nutcracker huddled together as the mice gathered around, their king glaring menacingly at you both.
"End of the line Rosehearts. I win this fight."
The evil king said, his own weapon drawn to strike down the nutcracker. Said wooden man glared back, keeping himself between you and the king. Eyes defiant.
"Bold of you to assume you've won when I'm still standing."
He snapped back. The rodent hissed and lunged at the nutcracker. The fight was brutal, swords clashing between them. You could only watched awed and terrified as your brave nutcracker stood toe to toe with this corrupt king. Despite his arm being loose he kept up, skilled in a way that was impressive and awing. However it was also becoming clear that he was wavering, because of his arm. The king struck a hit against his sword causing him to stumble backwards onto one knee. His arms trembled, teeth gritted as he strained against the brute strength. You didn't think about your next course of action. You just moved. Tearing off one of your slippers you took aim at the king, who's back was turned and threw it as hard as you could. It happened quick, one moment the rat king was standing and the next moment he was on the ground unconscious from the force of your shoe hitting him in the back of his head. The mice soliders gasped, becoming disarrayed by the unexpected turn of events. With no leader they were useless. Grabbing their fallen king, they retreated into the mouse hole leaving you and the nutcracker alone.
"Are you alright!?"
You inquired, holding your hand out to him. The nutcracker gave you a nod, exhausted but grateful.
"I am thanks to you. What you did was both brave yet foolish. Yet I owe you my life for helping me."
He replied, causing you to be a bit flustered.
"Oh no if anything I owe you. You'd saved my life earlier back there. If you hadn't intervened I wouldn't be standing here."
You mumbled before suddenly feeling a sense of dread when you realized that you were still the same size.
"Wait shouldn't have I....? Why am I still small?"
You asked looking yourself over as the events of the night were not finally hitting you full force. A grimace came onto the wooden man's face, his gaze apologetic.
"Because you were cursed by the mouse king, just as I have been."
You felt your heart sink at his answer.
"Isn't there anyway we can break it? I can't stay small forever!"
You choked out trying not to let your panic through.
"There is one way. Back in my homeland there is a old, powerful being known as the Sugarplum Fairy. She's been known to help those who need it. If we find her, we'll be able to break the curse. In fact that's who I myself was going to see for my own curse."
The nutcracker supplied. You processed what he'd said, your mind racing from everything. From evil mice kings to magical realms and fairies to curses. This night had taken a bizarre turn, and it was rather overwhelming. Biting your lip, you began to mentally go through your options. It was silent for a beat before you'd finally came to a decision.
"If you don't mind can I accompany you? I can't stay like this forever unfortunately and I don't know magic or curses to fix this."
"I don't see why not. As long as you stick close to me and listen, we'll find her in no time......uh....."
He paused giving you an awkward embarrassed look.
"I didn't catch your name my apologies."
You blinked realizing that you two were never probably introduced before holding your hand out in a friendly way. A hesitant smile on your face.
"(Y/N). It's a pleasure to meet you...?"
"Riddle, Riddle Rosehearts. And the pleasures all mine, considering all you've done for me."
Riddle said, vaguely gesturing to the arm still wrapped in its cloth bandage. You felt your face flush, a bit embarrassed now too before feeling his wooden hand grab yours to shake it. With your introductions now out of the way, and your slipper back on your foot, you follow Riddle towards the mouse hole.
"We'll go through here to get to my home. Are you ready (Y/N)?"
Riddle asked grey eyes on you. You took a deep breath, preparing yourself.
"As ready as I'll ever be."
And with that the two of you stepped into the hole, a flash a magical light consuming you both as you leave your home behind in search for the Sugarplum Fairy.
❄️🎄🩰❄️🎄🩰❄️🎄🩰❄️🎄🩰❄️🎄🩰
The first thing you noticed was the snow crunching underneath your feet. It was a lovely sound, one that you loved quite a bit from your childhood. The second thing you'd noticed was just how beautiful this world looked. Vast lands laid before you, covered in snow that looked like sugar. Glittering in the sun like thousands of diamonds. It was breathtaking and you couldn't help but feel awed. Despite the circumstances.
"You live here....?"
You asked voice full of breathless awe. Riddle glanced at you, surprised by your reaction before a small smile appeared on his face.
"Yes, this is only a bit of my homeland."
"It's beautiful."
You proclaimed eyes sparkling. Riddle swallowed taken aback by your expression. It was a rather lovely one he noted. The two of you stepped further into the snowy wonderland. A surprisingly comfortable silence falling between the two of you. Despite the cold you found yourself not feeling it, probably due to the warm fluffy pajamas you were wearing. You noticed the trees with their winter branches, covered in crystal ice droplets and fluffy snow. Bringing a magical feeling to the world you were in. Glancing around your eyes landed on Riddle who had a fond look on his wooden face, obviously happy to be back home.
'Maybe this adventure to break our curses won't be so bad after all.'
You thought keeping in step with your nutcracker. The two of you traveled the snow covered hills, Riddle showing you all the sights and telling you the history of landmarks and villages you two would pass. You'd become entranced by his talking, voice soothing and comforting that put you at ease. Listening with rapid attention. You crossed through rivers made of ice and snow, and came across villages with candy on them or other festive Christmas like decorations. Your days were spent learning about Riddle and him learning about you in return. Becoming closer to each other despite the situation at hand. You'd learned pretty quick that Riddle could be stern, and a stickler for things. But it usually came from a good place rather than being mean. As you passed through towns and villages you'd began to notice Riddle seemingly getting more excited. The reason why being answered when you'd arrived to the newest village.
Once Riddle had stepped into the entrance of the place he was greeted by tiny fairies, their chimes sounding magical. You watched amused as he greeted them back, a warm smile on his face before a voice called out.
"Oi-! You're back-!"
Glancing up at the voice at the same time Riddle turned his attention towards it, you'd noticed two men making their way to you. They looked younger than him, a look of relief on their expressions as they drew closer.
"Ace, Deuce...!"
Riddle's voice drew your attention, the relief in it mirroring their expressions.
"We'd thought that you were a goner after the mouse king had-"
The one boy, the blue haired one started to say only to be interrupted by the other one with orange red hair.
"You owe an explanation and an apology! You had Trey and Cater worried sick, you dummy!"
He snapped, reddish brown eyes narrowed. Riddle sputtered at the tone and began to try and defend himself. You watched, amused as they went back and forth.
"Are you a friend of Riddle's?"
The blue haired boy asked you, his teal eyes meeting yours.
"Yeah, my name's (Y/N)."
You introduced, friendly and warm. The boy smiled at you sending his own friendly smile.
"Deuce Spade. That idiot over there is Ace Trappola. How long have you known Riddle?"
You hesitated for a moment, wondering how you could explain everything without sounding a bit unhinged or straight up lying.
"It's....a long story."
You answered instead. Deuce gave you a look, questions on the tip of his tongue when a shout of Riddle's name interrupted him. You looked towards the village further in to see two older men staring at you all, the man with green hair looking like he had the weight of the world lifted off of his shoulders as soon as he seen Riddle. Soon they too joined the group and you watched as they looked Riddle over, their voices ranging from relief to scolding somewhat for worrying them the way he did. You watched as Riddle seemed to get flustered by their concern, endeared by his face and fluttering hands that seemed to not know what to do with themselves.
'He's quite precious when he's flustered.'
You mused, before you turned your attention to the fairies that were now hovering around you. You let out a small giggle as you felt one of them settle on top of your head, their gentle wings feeling like a butterfly's. Unaware of Riddle's eyes landing on you and softening a bit at the scene.
"So who's your friend Rid?"
Cater's voice startled Riddle causing him to stumble a bit over his words. Seeing the fellow red hair grinning at him in a Cheshire cat manner.
"A traveling companion. They were cursed by the king like me, so I'm helping them reach the Sugarplum Fairy."
The wooden redhead explained. Cater's smile grew dim at the reminder of the king. Trey who had been looking at Riddle's arm in concern, seemed to go still at the mention of the king. Ace and Deuce just frowned at the news, expressions grim.
"Even when he's gone, he still inflicts misery on the people."
Trey muttered. Earning hums of agreement from the others. Riddle huffed but didn't disagree.
"Well, are you going to introduce us to them or are we gonna just keep addressing them as your friend?"
Cater asked lighting up the mood. Riddle let out a sigh and gestured them to follow to introduce you to his friends.
🩰🎄❄️🩰🎄❄️🩰🎄❄️🩰🎄❄️🩰🎄❄️
Riddle's village you'd come to learn is a quaint place. It was homey and welcoming and had a special kind of magic to it. The people as well were magical within their own rights, friendly and warm like a fireplace lit with a toasty fire. You'd grown to enjoy Riddle's friends, who were strange and fun and incredibly helpful. Once they'd learned about your curse and the situation at hand, they'd offered whatever they could to help you and Riddle locate the Sugarplum Fairy. You were incredibly grateful to them for it. At the present moment you were outside Trey's home, surrounded by the sounds of your newly made friends talking and gathering around to enjoy the snow with the snow fairies. It was dark outside, the moon glowing in a beautiful silvery shine, bringing a sort of whimsical feeling to the moment. You heard Trey chatting with Chenya, another friend of Riddle's as they carried trays of hot chocolate. Ace, Deuce and Cater were entertaining the fairies, enjoying the snow bursts they gave with their magic.
And sitting next to you was Riddle.
The wooden nutcracker had taken refuge with you, staring up at the stars and taking comfort next to your side. You looked at him discreetly, noting his eyes shining in the snow and moonlight. Giving him an otherworldly feel despite his wood based appearance. The silver on his uniform enhancing him in a lovely way. The beloved nutcracker who had been nothing but kind to you in trying to turn you back to normal just like him. As you stared at him, eyes soft and unguarded you made eye contact with him and froze slightly at his intense gaze. His own eyes mirroring you own, fond and soft.
"What?"
He asked giving you his full attention.
"I just.....wanted to say thank you for everything. From the moment this situation happened you've done nothing but help me. That means a lot to me Riddle...."
You said, voice soft as if afraid to disturb the moment around you both. Riddle's eyes went wide with surprise. His expression unreadable for a beat before he slowly reached for your hand and squeezed it softly. You felt your cheeks warm and your chest give a small tug as you squeezed his wooden hand back. You both didn't say anything after that, just basking in one another. Riddle didn't say it out loud, but his hand grabbing yours conveyed his silent promise to help you. That you were both in this together now, from the moment you'd opened his box back in your home in front of the twinkling Christmas lights and warm fireplace.
You'd find the Sugarplum Fairy. And you'd find her together.
Feeling nice tonight gonna think about Lilia and his grandson from The Dragon's Son verse. Lilia takes his grandfather duties very seriously. Making sure that Elliott gets to enjoy the mischievous fun that only fae can really experience. He is also wrapped around this boy's finger. All it takes is a-
"Grandpa Lilia..."
And a perfectly timed puppy dog look and Lilia can't say no to him. Instead just picking him up and nuzzling his chubby cheek and cooing at him. He literally embraces the doting grandpa role so much that it'll leave his actual sons baffled. Things they weren't allowed to do? Elliott is allowed to do them. It makes Silver and Malleus look at Lilia with dumbfounded expressions of Dad seriously?!? Yet they don't complain because they understand exactly why Lilia allows it. Silver just like his father embraces the uncle role to a T. I'm talking nap times with each other, taking Elliott to go see the forest creatures and go pet deer. The whole nine yards. Will actually compete with Sebek on the best uncle title. Sebek just like them is also wrapped around Elliott's finger though he tries not to let it show as much. Though he fails miserably. He'd take him to the training grounds and show him all the cool sword tricks, while explaining about the greatness of the Draconia bloodline. Elliott always listens with starry eyed attention, soaking it all up.
And Malleus is the worst out of them all.
Malleus much like Lilia was with him and Silver showers Elliott in attention and affection. He adores his son and everything he does just leaves Malleus in awe of the boy. He'd literally move all of hell, heaven and earth if it meant seeing the son you and him had smile.
The Ramshackle common area was incredibly quiet after you'd explained everything. From you discovering your pregnancy when you'd returned home to rising your beloved son Elliott. Your old friends watched you, their expressions ranging from thoughtfulness to pity. All save for one. Lilia was the only one out of the group who looked at you with a look of understanding. Being a parent himself of three, Lilia completely understood just how hard it must have been for you and Elliott. A magicless and young single mother, raising you and Malleus's bundle of joy with your mother. Facing the things that Malleus could have helped you in all by yourself. Yet being unable too due to circumstance and the belief that you'd never see him again. The vampire fae glanced at you, seeing your nervous look at the silence and then at his grandson Elliott who was laying his head on your chest. In an attempt to help ease you.
'He truly is the son of Malleus indeed.'
Lilia thought remembering the times back in the day when his own son would place his head close to yours in an attempt to soothe you.
"So.....what do you plan to do now (Y/N)? I know you don't wish to say anything about all this but....."
Riddle, ever the one to push forward broke the silence. His steel hues were watching you, questioning and non judgemental. Trey and Cater also turned their expressions towards you silently waiting for your response.
"I know that what I'm trying to do is possibly the impossible but I can't ruin Tsunotarou's life here-"
You'd started to say only for Lilia to cut you off drawing the attention of everyone in the room to him.
"You wouldn't. I know my son little beastie, and I can assure you that you nor Elliott will ruin anything. If anything your beloved would have the opposite reaction you think he'd have."
The small fae spoke, confidently and fatherly. Lilia knew Malleus, had been by his side since he'd hatched. Had seen him when you had went home, unaware of the extra passenger you'd taken with you. Malleus hadn't ever really moved on, anyone with eyes could see that the king of thorns still held a flame for you. Even after all these years.
"I...."
You started to say trailing off as you tried to get your nerves and sudden flustered energy under control.
"Lilia's right you know. You should have a bit more faith in yourself and your son and his father."
Vil chimed in his amethyst hues zoned in.
"Whatever you decide we'll be behind you Prefect."
Deuce put in earning nods of agreement from Ace and Epel. You went quiet, thoughts racing as you pondered your next course of action. Holding your son close to you, his (H/C) locks tickling your neck slightly. You knew that you couldn't keep Elliott hidden forever. With no clue on how to possibly get back home or if was even possible, it'd be a miracle if you managed to keep you and Elliott's presence unknown. But despite Lilia and Vil's confidence in Malleus's reaction to all of this you couldn't help but be a bit afraid. Afraid of the possible rejection, of having your heart be broken again. Afraid for Elliott. Your precious boy had wanted to know about his father for his whole life, had wanted to meet him and see the papa who his mama loved so fiercely. If Malleus rejected Elliott it would break the six year old's heart. And that was something you would not let slide. No matter how much you loved him, nor longed for him, Elliott came first. And come heaven and hell you'd defend this sweet child to the bitter end. You were taken out of your conflicting thoughts by Elliott's call.
"Mama....?"
You blinked and looked down at him, his big green eyes staring at you with worry. His small hand was holding onto your shirt, his head tilting a bit in curious concern. A mannerism that was solely both yours and Malleus's. A miniscule detail that made up the child you'd brought into this world. Staring at the boy who had brighten your sorrow filled days and who brought laughter to your life you couldn't help but feel a sense of grief. Malleus never got to meet his son, he never got a chance to hold him or see him walk or talk for the first time. He never got to hear Elliott call out papa like how you have with him calling you mama. Malleus has no idea about the wonderful, kind and curious little gift of a human being. It was this knowledge hitting you, that had made your choice. Taking a shaky breath you pressed a small kiss to Elliott's forehead, mindful of his horns before turning your gaze towards your friends.
Several pairs of eyes stared back at you, faces you'd grown up with and treasured dearly showing you quiet support. Even if they didn't quite agree with a possible outcome. Trusting you to make any decisions involving you and Elliott. Taking a deep breath you answered.
"Is there any way I could speak to Tsunotarou without any prying eyes?"
~~~~~
It has been quite awhile since he's stepped foot in this school. The tall fae king glanced around the large courtyard, his bright green hues scanning the sea of familiar classmates who he'd once walked these very grounds with. Each face bringing back memories of times when he was no king. Just a dorm leader with few responsibilities.
'You will not find what you seek. You haven't found it in several years now.'
A flash of memory, of a smile so beautiful it'd made his heart flutter. An echo of a musical laughter that he could listen to forever. The phantom touch of gentle hands that haunt him. Even when she'd cried she'd tried to smile for him. The last image of her face still burned into his mind forever. The regret of watching her leave, of not stopping her. Walking away that day had been the hardest thing he'd ever done. The fae king paused in his tread, his chest heavy and tight as he recalled those memories.
The memories of you.
All of them precious and beautiful and painful. Back in those days, you were the light who shined in his darkness. A flame that beckoned him to follow wherever you'd go. You who captured his heart when he least expected it, who still held it if he was being truthful. Even after all those years he still loved you. Always will this much he knew. The figure closed his eyes willing the painful memories away. You wouldn't want him to grieve in this manner. Not when this reunion was meant to be a celebration.
"Malleus are you alright?"
Silver's question brought the dragon fae back to the present time. Malleus glanced at his knight, quiet for a beat.
"I think we both know the answer to that question Silver."
Malleus responded instead. He watched as the human, his brother by all accounts give a small look. Sympathy in his purple hues. It wasn't addressed the answer, the two knowing it already. Silver went to speak when another voice shouted out.
"I haven't been able to locate Lilia Sama Lord Malleus!"
Sebek who had left the duos side to search for their missing member reappeared beside his fellow knight. Looking a bit irritated at being unable to fulfill his task. Malleus couldn't help but let out a huff of amusement at the results of Sebek's futile search of the oldest member of their group. Lilia Vanrouge wasn't one to be found unless he allowed it.
"Father probably went off to see his old clubmates."
Silver supplied earning a look from Sebek. The two knights had a staredown of sorts while Malleus watched them. His thoughts again drifting to you. If he'd stopped you all those years ago, would you be here with him by his side? If he'd truly let you know the extent of his feelings and desires would you have stayed here in Twisted Wonderland with him? He couldn't help but think about it, a future where you'd stayed here. A future where he'd told you everything he had ever wanted. Where that one fateful night with you had made him realize just how deeply he loved you. Of you being his wife and queen. And if you'd so desired the mother of his children. Malleus fought the bitterness filling him, knowing that these what ifs weren't good. Knowing that it'd never be. Forcing himself to bury his wishes deep within he called for his knights attention and mentally prepared himself to go through the motions of greeting old classmates. Of pretending that he was fine. Just as he'd done for the past six years.
Unaware that deep within an abandoned dorm surrounded by friends, the missing piece of his heart was nearby.
Thinking about grandpa Lilia and Elliott and how much he'd spoil this kid. Absolutely would give him the damn world and then some because his grandson is just the sweetest little beastie it's literally his duty to fulfill the best grandpa duties.
Sup y'all? I hope you all have been doing well this week! I just wanted to apologize for the lack of activity this week and the possibility of being gone for random moments at a time in the future. Things have been incredibly busy, and me and my family have a lot of things to do like packing up and finding a new place so I'll be here on and off. I also wanted to let everyone know that I won't be able to update my fics like Universal Collision until further notice.
Hopefully once everything's settled again and me and my family have everything back on track, I'll be able to update my fics and work on future chapters and oneshots. Anyways that's all I really wanted to say, I didn't want anyone to think that I'd like abandoned Universal Collision or any of my other stuff. It's just a hiatus in a way till things calm down.
Warning: This fic contains language, blood, gore, violence, fighting, fatal injuries and major spoilers for the 2012 series. If any of this makes you uncomfortable I highly encourage y'all to check out my other works.
Spring. It was the sign of new beginnings, a sign of rebirth and growth with its blooming flowers and trees and warm gentle breezes. Spring was the type of season that Karai adored especially since this current spring marked the first anniversary of her little brother's arrival into her and her father's lives. The six year old girl rushed out of her bed, buzzing with excitement as she rushed around to get herself ready and dressed. Running her brush through her straight black locks, Karai took a look at herself in the mirror taking in her outfit. The plain maroon red shirt and plain black pants and old shoes worked well with what her plans entailed for her and her brother. Giving a little smile towards the mirror her light amber eyes sparkled back at her in excitement before she finally rushed out of her bedroom to go to the one next door.
Not hesitating to let herself into the room Karai rushed towards the bed that sat near the wall practically jumping onto it waking the sleeping five year old boy within it. Big dark blue eyes blinked awake startled as he pushed himself up in his bed meeting the excited, mischievous smile of his older sister. The boy gave her a confused look, his three fingered hands forming sleepy words.
'What's wrong? Is everything okay?'
He signed, the child or rather turtle toddler asked. Karai just gave him a bigger smile in response.
"Everything's fine Leo! But you have to get up there's something important I have to show you!"
She said shaking her little brother some more. Leo gave her another look before finally getting out of bed, more awake now due to Karai's contagious energy. Once her little brother was ready and awake and dressed, Karai grabbed Leo's hand and dragged him out of his room, running down the corridors of the large Japanese home, passing a few workers along the way. Leo squeezed her hand in a nervous way, uneasy with all the people they passed. Karai squeezed his hand back as she continued on towards her destination. The kitchen was soon within sight and the Japanese girl pulled her little brother through it, the two of them being greeted by the scent of breakfast. An older woman had just finished setting the second plate down when Karai called out to her.
"Miss. Lotus! Is breakfast ready?? Me and Leo are starving!!!"
Karai chirped making the older woman look up at the duo and smile a soft smile.
"You two are just in time, it was just finished Mistress Karai. I figured that you and Master Leonardo would be hungry, also I've prepared that special request you'd asked for the other day. It's ready to go when you're both finished."
Lotus replied with a small chuckle, earning a sparkling smile from Karai and a confused look from Leo. Saying a small thank you to the older Japanese woman, the young six and five year olds sat down at the table and began to eat. The whole time they ate Leo would sign questions at his older sister, wondering what this special request was and what Karai had planned. All that he'd receive from her was a mischievous smile and a be patient you'll see. Once they were done with breakfast, Leo was once again being dragged along by his older sister. Karai grabbed a small basket from Lotus before the duo left the kitchen with Karai calling out a goodbye and before Leo knew it they were bursting out of the side door of the house and rushing down the countryside hills away from home.
It was about an hour of running into the Japanese countryside, passing by trees, bugs and wildlife when Karai had suddenly stopped making Leo nearly run into her back. Bright amber hues met dark blue ones as Karai spoke.
"Cover your eyes! You can't see it till I say you can!"
Karai said somewhat demanding the turtle. Leo gave her an unsure look his hands signing in response.
'But what if I trip and fall? Onee-chan I don't want to-'
He'd tried to protest only to be stopped by his sister who grabbed his hands and gave him a serious look.
"Leo do you trust me?"
Karai asked startling the younger. Leo didn't even hesitate to nod at her letting her know that he did.
"Then please......close your eyes. I won't let anything happen to you. I promise."
She pleaded. Leo stared at her for a moment before finally slipping his eyes shut, giving Karai complete control over his movements. His older sister was gentle as she guided him forward, letting him know when something was in his way and helping him around it. After a few minutes of doing this small dance Karai finally stopped them, giving his hands another reassuring squeeze.
"Okay Leo.......open them."
The six year olds voice softly gave him the okay. The five year old slowly opened his eyes blinking them against the sunshine before focusing on what was before him. Dark blue eyes widened in childish wonder and awe as they made contact with a large sakura tree. The tree branches were filled with beautiful pink and red cherry blossoms, their sweet scent filling his nose and filling him with a sense of calm. Leo turned to look over at his sister, noticing her slightly awkward and almost shy shimmying.
"I've been wanting to show this for a year now, since you couldn't see them last year. It's a tradition that I do every spring, and I wanted you to be apart of it too. So.......happy one year siblingversary."
The older child finished off her face turning pink in how sentimental she'd sounded. But she'd wanted to make their first anniversary as brother and sister memorable. She wanted to make him see something beautiful and hopeful so he could truly start to let go of his past from a year ago. For a year since last spring when Karai had found him unconscious in the riverbank by her village, Leo had always looked spooked and uneasy never saying a word to anyone and silently following her wherever she went. Karai may not completely understand why Leo was so scared but she knew enough to know that he needed comfort and reassurance in his new life with the Oroku family. Karai refused to look at him too embarrassed to, getting a bit uneasy with his silence. After fighting with herself the girl finally turned her attention towards her brother again and nearly recoiled in shock.
Leo was crying.
Tears, silent and fat rolled out of his watery blue hues and down his chubby green cheeks, his gaze boring straight into her. Karai felt her heart sink and she began to panic. This wasn't what she wanted, she didn't want to make Leo cry, she wanted to make him smile, not breakdown.
"Oh-! Leo are you okay-!?! I'm so sorry I didn't mean to make you cry-"
The six year old began to say desperately trying to fix it when the five year old lunged at her, wrapping his arms tightly around her as he cried quietly. Karai froze before wrapping her arms around him as well, rubbing his shell in soothing circles to try and calm him down. The eldest child was so scrambled by all of this that she nearly missed something very important. However her training that she'd started a year ago had made her ears sharper and what she heard made her heart jump.
It was a voice.
A voice soft and full of tears whispering quietly into her neck, smooth and childish and small and filled with a touched gratitude.
"Thank you.....thank you Onee-chan I love it thank you so much...."
Leo repeated softly over and over again as he hugged her tightly. Karai meanwhile was on cloud nine, giddy happiness filling her very being because her little brother after a year of silence had finally spoken to her and that was more than she could have ever asked for in a million years. She squeezed him back tightly, pressing a small kiss to the top of his head.
"You're welcome little brother. I'm happy that you like my surprise.....now! Let's get set up and get lunch together! We've got a long day of playing ahead of us!"
Karai said her panic all but gone as she pulled away from Leo and with his hand in hers pulled him towards the sakura tree. The two spent the rest of the day playing beneath its branches, the sounds of their laughter filling the gentle spring breeze along with the delicate pink petals. Soon the day came to its end and Leo began to grow tired. Karai picked him up onto her back and began to make their long trip home, knowing that their father would be home when they got there. Leo slept against Karai's back, his body light and warm as she carried him. Turning her light amber hues onto the sleeping turtle Karai felt a feeling of protectiveness fill her being.
'Don't you worry Leo, you won't ever have to be alone again. Onee-chan will stay with you and keep you safe. I promise.'
The Japanese girl swore as they drew further away from the sakura tree and made their way home.
~~~~~
'Please, please don't do this to me God damnit Leo-!'
A sixteen year old Karai pleaded mentally as she dragged her brother's broken and unconscious body from the New York rivers. The harsh winter chill dug into her bones, making her feel as if she'd been stabbed several times as she and Leo finally got out of the freezing and merciless waters. The teenager's lungs were on fire and everything hurt yet Karai forced herself to keep going. Wrapping an arm around Leo's waist, with a bit of difficulty she managed to get him onto her back, being careful of the busted knee and broken shell. With raspy breathes and gritted teeth Karai began to carry her little brother away from the water, fighting against the harsh winter weather as she disappeared into the snow and winds, her only mission to get away from their father as fast as possible.
'No not our father, he was never our father. He's a murderer, a lunatic who's lied to himself and to us! To think that I ever loved him-!'
The thought vicious and betrayed hissed in her head as she continued to carry on, noting how cold Leo was getting. Karai cursed, a sense of dread filling her. She needed to get them out of the cold, if she didn't get them, him out of the freezing temperatures he'd......Leo would......
'No, don't think about it. Focus Oroku Karai. You can't lose your head yet. Not now.'
She told herself forcing herself to focus on her current task. She had a mission to complete and she was going to see it through even if it killed her. Karai had no idea how long she walked through the snow and harsh winds, her body soaked and freezing slowly as the snow and ice stuck onto her and Leo. The sixteen year old girl just continued onwards, blinded by her need to save Leo's life. An eternity seemed to pass when finally she'd found sanctuary in an alleyway. It was dark and damp and filled with trash, ice and snow but it blocked the winds that tore at the two siblings and that was enough for Karai. With trembling steps the ninja dragged them into the alley before she finally collapsed onto her knees, fatigue and cold finally getting to her. With a trembling, ice cold touch, Karai gently removed Leo from her back and placed him onto his uninjured side to take a look at the damage. What she saw made bile rise in her throat. Leo's throat was filled with slice marks and nicks that bleed sluggishly, his knee was twisted in an unnatural way, swollen around its kneecap and his shell.......
A crack, long and jagged went straight down his shell, the wound bleeding heavily onto it. Karai forced herself to keep her calm and she removed her sash that hung around her waist, covering the bleeding crack with the frozen and soaked maroon red fabric. Leo didn't even so much as make a sound when she'd done it, making her be filled with even more dread than before. Karai knew that despite Leo's human DNA, he was still a somewhat cold blooded reptile and to go through such a traumatic experience and then thrown into icy cold water and freezing winds was the worst thing that could ever be done. The female ninja continued her attempts on covering his wounds, her hands shaking, frozen and covered in warm blood. Due to how cold her fingers were the blood felt as if it was burning her, causing her to feel a stinging pain that she ignored. Finally wrapping Leo's cracked shell, Karai gently moved them into a trash bag pile, laying them down onto it before wrapping her arms and legs around her baby brother in a vain attempt to get him warm again when she herself was just as frozen.
Karai didn't move from her spot next to her little brother, instead keeping a close eye on him and their surroundings to the best of her ability. The oldest Oroku sibling gently ran her fingers over the youngest Oroku's frozen pale cheek. Leo remained still, his eyes closed and his breathing light, raspy and slow. His usual bright green scaly skin was a dull frozen green color, cold to the touch and covered in dry blood and snow. Karai felt her throat tighten as she really took in the condition her little brother was in, realizing that Leo's injuries were fatal.
"I should have realized.....should have known that something was up when the Shredder sent me out alone for that mission. I shouldn't have left you alone, should've insisted that you come along with me. I should've been there for you, I'm sorry.....I'm so sorry......Leo....."
Karai muttered, her voice soft and rasping from her lack of use of it. She swallowed hard as she cursed herself for not realizing sooner, for not being able to protect Leo from harm. The sixteen year old should have known that the Shredder would be furious, would be murderous for Leo's act of treason when he'd went to protect that purple turtle Donnie. The turtle who was the son of their sworn enemy, the Hamato clan. She should have been suspicious when the Shredder had sent her on a solo mission, he never did things like that. It was always her and Leo who went together, it was always the two of them and rarely were they ever separated for things like this. Yet she hadn't questioned it and had went alone, unknowingly leaving Leo to be gone at by their master like a pig to the slaughter.
'If I hadn't come back at the time I did.....if I'd come back any later.....'
The thought whispered haunting her to her very core as she recalled searching for the Shredder only to see him holding Leo's broken and bleeding body over the New York bridge before tossing him over the side of it. The sounds of her little brother's body, limp and unconscious hitting the waters with an echoing splash. She hadn't hesitated when she'd screamed Leo's name, jumping over the side herself to get to him, effectively committing her own act of treason against the Shredder by doing so. But at the time as well as now Karai knew that she would do it again and again, because no matter how much she loved their father, Leo her baby brother, her best friend would always come first. Karai gripped Leo's body tighter, her frame shaking from cold and barely held back tears as she felt the frozen body in her arms. The body of her little brother that only grew colder and stiffer with each passing minute.
'I'm gonna lose him. I'm gonna lose my little brother and it's all my fault.'
Karai thought as she clung to him, her own body now slowly down in its trembling tremors. The female ninja was beginning to realize that she couldn't feel her fingers and toes and her body had started to feel numb. It didn't take a rocket scientist to put together that she was starting to follow Leo in this cold, deathly slumbering world of numbness and stillness. Leo's body was now deathly still, his bleeding wounds having nearly stopped and covered in a thin layer of frost and snow. He was dying, her little brother was dying and there was nothing Karai could do about it and that broke her in a way she'd never been broken before.
"Don't go Leo......don't go where I can't follow. Please don't leave me alone, Leo you can't die please.....!"
Karai began to speak up again, her voice thick as she desperately pleaded with the frozen and broken frame in her arms.
"You can't die yet......! What about Shini?? She's gonna be devastated if you leave!! And what about your dreams??!! The dreams of becoming a teacher and teaching others the ways of ninjutsu?!?!"
The older teen rambled her body becoming more aware despite the cold as she grew more and more upset.
"You promised me that you'd stay by my side-!! We made a pact to always stick together!! Leo don't die on me please God fucking damnit please I'm begging you, little brother please just......just stay here with me.....please I still need you here......."
Karai begged her battle with her tears lost as they flew down her pale frozen cheeks. She knew that what she was asking was hopeless and pointless, knew that asking him not to die was something he could just make happen. Not when his wounds and the harsh unforgiving elements were against him. Yet she couldn't stop herself, couldn't stop the devastation and heartbreaking grief that was consuming her. Burying her face into his chest she listened to the slow, sluggishly heartbeat behind the chest plate, dreading the moment when it finally stopped beating for good. Silent sobs shook her and she cursed herself for crying. Karai wasn't a crier, having been told her whole life that crying was a sign of weakness. But she couldn't stop the tears that flowed from her amber eyes and onto her pale cheeks. Not when she was going to be alone. As Karai broke down the sudden sounds of boots crunching on the snow made her freeze.
They'd been found.
The eldest Oroku child didn't know how she managed to move her frozen body, didn't know how she managed to grip her sword with her blueish, frozen fingers, didn't know how she managed to get her limbs covered in damp water and frost to move as quickly as she did but she did it. The sounds of her sword unsheathing sounded in the fringed air the person who had stepped into the alleyway letting out a startled shout at barely missing being cut.
"Stay the hell away from us! Don't you dare come anywhere near-!"
The Japanese teen snarled ready to fight to the death, her own condition be damned when a familiar voice called out her name.
"Karai?!? What are you doing here?!?! Just what are you planning-oh.....oh my God...Leo?!?! What the hell happened to him-oh shit Karai-!!!"
The voice, feminine and familiar had shot out questions, once suspicious and heated now full of horror and concern and panic. Karai's body had begun to collapse again, the world spinning around her as she was grabbed by the familiar stranger to keep her from hitting her head off the concrete. Karai fought to remain focused but her body was officially quitting on her. Her vision blurred, full of snowflakes and freezing tears. The feminine voice was talking sounding rushed and panicked.
"I need you here immediately-! Karai and Leo they're-! I know that they're of the Foot clan but I can't just leave them out here to freeze too death-!! Please Dee you gotta-!!! Oh shit Karai stay awake, Karai?!? KARAI?!?!! DEE WE NEED HELP NOW-"
The voice called out sounding muffled and unclear, like it was talking underwater. But Karai paid no mind to it instead instinctively reaching out back towards Leo's unconscious frame, her fingers brushing against his own weakly as she gripped them, struggling against the person holding her. Once his hand was in hers Karai went limp, relief and acceptance filling her.
'If we don't make it Leo.......perhaps the gods will be merciful and let us be reborn again as siblings. Just wait for me okay? You won't be alone......Onee-chan won't let you be alone......never again......'
The thought breathed in her mind as she finally drifted off into unconscious, content to be near her brother until the very end.
*Oroku 12 Leo and Oroku 12 Karai my beloveds. This AU has been living rent free in my head and I just had to write something for it. Karai is probably super ooc since I've never really written for her but I got the feeling that if she and Leo grew up alongside each other then she'd be fiercely protective over him. Anyways I love this AU a lot and I'm just gonna do little pieces here and there for it. Maybe one day it'll be an actual story who knows? Anyways if any y'all read this I hope you enjoyed it!!*
I have five ideas about Rottmnt x GF crossover fanfic about shy!fem!human!reader's 3rd information:
1) She is a 16 years old teenager. And Leo & Donnie are 16 years old teenagers too.
2) She is a transfer student at April's high school in New York City & she is April's next neighbor too. And shy!fem!human!reader live alone at apartment.
3) Shy!fem!human!reader & April quickly becomes fast friends for real.
4) April is her first true friend she has. Turtles boys are her first true friends too.
5) Shy!fem!human!reader had no friends for long time because she was bullied by mean girls and insensitive boys for being timid, anime/cartoon Otaku & gamer many times. That's why April is so very protective of her. 😭💔
~🦋
I absolute live for the friendship here, April and the reader being besties is honestly incredibly sweet!!! :D
I have 7 ideas about Rottmnt x GF crossover fanfic about shy!fem!human!reader's relationship with their younger siblings, Mabel and Dipper Pines:
She has closest sibling bond with them. She is so extremely loving, understanding, caring and kindhearted big sister to them. 🥺💕
She is so extremely protective of Mabel and Dipper. She is very fond of children. But she is very pissed off when someone harmed or bullied them then she shows her inner angry Fluttershy (Mlp:EG) side toward someone who harmed or bullied Mabel and Dipper. 😱💦
Like as GF episode Fight Fighters's ending about she is very pissed off at Robbie when she learns about Robbie planned to fight Dipper. Robbie learns the hard way and he is very terrified of her. 🤣 Rottmnt turtle boys and Dipper witnessed the shy!fem!human!reader showed her inner angry Fluttershy side toward Robbie. 🤣
Shyfem!human!reader and Dipper are having many interests such video games, mysteries and supernatural creatures.
Shy!fem!human!reader and Mabel are having many interests such as cartoons and fantasies.
Mabel and Dipper are so extremely protective of their big sister and they do not let creepy boys like Robbie near her. 🤭
But Mabel and Dipper are biggest shippers for shy!fem!human!reader and Leo & Donnie (poly). Mabel and Dipper team up with Mikey and Shelldon to get them together many times because they want their big sister to feel happy and loved. 🥺💘
~🦋
Oooooo-!!! That's so cute-!! Especially the Mikey and Shelldon parts where they try to help the reader out!!! Plus the reader being like a big sister to the twins is super cute!!!
