Ana Sofia had been browsing the aisle for some sweets to soothe herself, sighing heavily when she looked at the prices. Couldn’t even afford a bag of tootsie rolls with what she had in her pocket…

“Um… I think they would like those more. They aren’t as sticky and more kids tend to like fruity snacks. Chocolates tend to make a mess.”

“You sure? Okay then!” He’d throw a few of those in his cart and out the other back, “Usually I’d ask my daughter about this kind of thing, but, you know...” He shrugged.

Nick couldn’t help but notice the way she looked at some of the bags of candy on the shelf. Well...

“Hey, out of everything on the shelves... What your favourite?”

Everyone seemed to see his armour first. He didn’t understand why it was so… strange? Had no one ever seen it before? Grumbling slightly, he moved the lollipop into his cheek and raised an eyebrow at the other. 

“Really? Well what about walking around in that fancy suit the whole time?” The thief raked his eyes down the others more modern clothing. “Guess we both stand out a bit.”

“Fancy? I bought this on bargain-- I-I mean! It’s quite appropriate. For me, at least. I need to seem presentable at all time or my credibility may be questioned...” He awkwardly rubbed his head.

“Besides, do you need to wear armour? Is there any threat or something on this island? I-I’m only asking now to make sure this place is safe... Safe enough, that is.” He managed to make himself paranoid, good job Nick.

Halloween? Halloween? Halloween? HALLOWEEN!

If there was one thing Nick loved, it was holidays he didn’t have to worry about being too formal on; Halloween being one of them.

Normally, he’d leave the decorating up to Trucy and Apollo, however he figured having extra people over to help would annoy his roommate so it was up to him to take up the call!

He should probably start with candy, right?

“Excuse me, which of these two do you think kids would like more?” He asked, showing it the the stranger in the same aisle as him.

This man... Well, Nick has seen weirder outfits. It was still a little odd to see someone dressed so plainly in, what was it, armor? Strange, very strange...

Still, it wasn’t as weird as the Steel Samurai costume, he’ll give him that.

“Not exactly the most inconspicuous of outfits, is it?”

Well, this guy was sure trusting to be taking drinks from strangers. Oh well, it wasn’t like Kaito put anything in it.

(This time.)

“Kaito Kuroba,” he replied smoothly. “It’s nice to officially meet you, Mr. Wright.” He snickered to himself at the thought. “I heard we had a new branch of the law in town, but I never would’ve figured we’d be getting ourselves a bit of the judicial system.”

They just needed a few judges, maybe a prosecutor or two, and bam, they’d have an entire court set up on the island.

When you spent time only earning money through poker winnings,you learn to be a bit too trusting to free gifts...

“Ah? Kaito Kuroba... Was that right? Sorry, still getting used to the pronunciation...” The man was American, after all...

“Yeah, I was a bit surprised to see I was the only Attorney here...Ain’t it a bit unfair to charge people without the fairness of a trial?” Apollo would flip out if he were here...

So this guy was a lawyer…? From what he gathered, at least, and he had gathered quite a bit. Nobody was ever allowed to say that Kuroba Kaito wasn’t the master of collecting information. However, what he heard and what he saw contradicted each other. Wright seemed, for lack of a better term…

…an idiot. “Hey, attorney-san,” he walked up to the other, holding out one of two cups of hot chocolate in his hands. “You need some help?”

Well, this guy seemed to know Wright-- Or, rather, his job at least... It was a little unusual to be addressed like that, he figured, but hey, he’s been called ruder things.

He looked up from his papers, raising an eyebrow at the man.

“Who--?”

“Huh? Oh, thanks.” Wright learned a while ago not to pass up free things, even if it was from a stranger (Boy, he really needed to work on this whole ‘trusting everyone’ thing), “But uhm, the name’s Phoenix-- Phoenix Wright-- for the record... Could I maybe get yours? “

… O… kay. Saguru had never really bothered with defence attorneys. He usually handed down enough evidence to shove someone in the slammer on the same day, so people had no reason to continue to a trial. Last time he was in court was a few years ago, so wow, what a pleasant (?) surprise to find an attorney on the island.

“Naoto-kun is on patrol at the moment, but I can pass on the message if you like? She is usually considered head of the SPF, however I do not mind speaking to you either.”

That’s so fucking illegal omg

“Naoto?” Foreign, definitely-- At least... To him it was. “Ah, well, I suppose it’s not like it’ll do any harm to make some acquaintances here, right? (God, don’t I just look pathetic...)”

“Uhm, well, as I’ve already said, my name is Phoenix Wright. Pleasure to meet you, Mr... Uhm? S-Sorry, I... don’t think I got your name. (Jeez, could I make this anymore awkward?)”

If he was to be living he, he figured he’d at least better get a job. Money was essential, even here it seems, and having heard there was a police station (and police force) on this island, he figured he’d better stick with what he knew best.

He should at least inform them he would be taking up a position as defending attorney on this island, should they need to call him.

“Hello. My name is Phoenix Wright, defence attorney. May I speak with the detective in charge, if possible?”

Ah, there it was. He was expecting that.

“It’s something like that. Although, you’d have a hard time pressing charges against our captors.”

“It’s a bit… complicated. It’s not impossible to leave ever. However, at the time being, you can’t, and there’s no way of ascertaining whether or not this is a time that eventually leads to the discovery of an exit.”

He was able to leave Solitude alongside others in his future, but timelines were a tricky thing and this one was almost definitely not his own.

“I’m sorry, but for any time in the foreseeable future, you’ll have to stay here.”

Great, so he’s stuck here? Who will pay the rent? Who’ll keep the business afloat? Who’ll make sure Maya doesn’t starve?

Ugh, this whole thing is making his head hurt and his stomach churn.

“Great. There’s no way this isn’t going to ruin my health any more...” He sighed heavily, “So, what’s the deal then? Do I gotta buy my own home or something? (And basing off my stress levels, that’d take me longer than I’ve got left...)”

It was always pretty obvious when someone had recently showed up on the island, though they all reacted differently. This guy seemed to be taking it well, although it also appeared he didn’t entirely understand the situation.

“Oh, hello. I don’t mind.”

“You’re on an island called Solitude. People are usually brought here without any knowledge of how they arrived. I don’t mean to alarm you, but at the time being, there isn’t a known way to leave.”

Unless you’re Claude’s mentor, who has the amazing ability to come and go at will- but most people here weren’t world renowned psychics.

“Oh? Solitude, huh? Well, yeah, that all makes-- W-Wait, huh?!”

“W-W-What do you mean?” Sorry, he’s a little lost. This is all too surreal to him, just give him some time. “Brought here without our knowledge? Isn’t that, you know, kidnapping?! And being unable to leave...”

Wright, just what have you gotten yourself into? Every aspect of this seems fishy (and probably, you know, illegal...)

“So... It’s impossible for people to leave? Like, ever?”

Usually, being lost is never a good sign, even more so when you’re pretty sure you’ve been abducted. (Or maybe this is one of Maya’s cruel pranks?)

Either way, Wright new there was only one thing he could do-- Ask some questions and try to solve this mystery (Ugh, remind him to never say that again...)

Regardless, this man seemed like as good a place to start as any.

“Uhm, hello? Hi, yeah, uhm. .. Do you mind telling me where I am? I’m a little lost, I think. (Smooth, Wright... Smooth.)”

Soaked through? Check. Sand covered? Check. Disoriented? Check.

Ugh, this was not the way Phoenix would like to wake up... (But then again, would anyone really like to wake up this way?)

Waking up in an unusual place already had Wright on edge, the kind of icky details of his awakening only made him irritated.

“Why do I have a feeling this isn’t going to be an impromptu vacation?”
