from the start of the manga, shin’s actions have always been driven out of a place of kindness and a search for love. him seeing sakamoto living a happy life and wanting to keep that peace, even at the stake of his own life. giving up being an assassin because he saw the sakamotos welcome him with open arms, and he couldn’t say no to it. couldn’t say no to that love. him acknowledging asakura’s work and letting him know that it was helpful, even though it led to him being ostracized all his life. him worrying about natsuki despite him getting on his nerves, choosing to work together for the collective good. trying to protect mafuyu when his big brother wasn’t around. him choosing to forsake his place in the sakamoto home because tenkyu threatened to harm them. knowing he might never be able to go back. always always putting others before him.

having spent years looking for a father he hoped hadn’t abandoned him. finally finding him, finally getting a chance to talk to him. only for that chance to be ripped away from him because he was too kind to let it be at the sake of someone else’s life. he has always been too kind. he just doesn’t see it.
