First steps on snow
First steps on snow
On sunday I woke up at about 1 pm and for me it was really late. Fortunately I didn’t feel overslept and lazy and was full of energy. I looked through a window and it was white almost everywhere since it had been snowing all night. I believe it was the first white day this year. At about 4:30 pm I put my thermo clothes on. Deep in my wardrobe I also found an old sport jumper and decided to put…

That's what I do while you're sleeping #active #morning #energy #for #all #day #alone #in #the #dark #5pm #pushups #foofighters #inthebackground #instasport
Had a run yesterday.
I slept only about 5 hours at monday night and you might understand that my body was not fully rested. Dispite this condition since my dinner at work I knew that in the evening I would run. It is strange that I didin’t feel sleepy or powerless that day. At the same time I am glad because when you are sleepy and feel weakness your body becomes heavy as a rock. Then forcing yourself to run is a great challange.
In the monday morning there were some snow outside (I even had to sweep my car glasses). But as you stood outside you could almost feel the melting of it. During the day there were some sleet but as I got outside at about 4:20 pm it was only wet everywhere.
I drove home, put on my termo clothes. There was about 2,5 degrees Celsius. Quite cold but the wind was weak. I believe every runner know that not exactly the temperature is the main factor that makes us cancel our runs but the wind. So I put my shoes on, walked outside, had some stretching exercises, took few deep breaths and started my activity. The plan of this run was:
1 km – warm up;
2-3 km – two consecutive kilometers each faster than 4 min;
4 km – rest run;
5-6 km – two consecutive kilometers each faster than 4 min;
7 km – rest run;
8 km – come down run;
For the first 500 meters my clock had been looking for a gps signal and didin’t work properly. So it seems that my warmp up took 1,5 km. But that was an advantage because I didin’t get warm in one kilometer. In fact I almost fulfilled my plan. 3rd kilometer was 2 seconds away from my target and 6th kilometer was 21 seconds slower than needed. In addition, maybe my rest run sections (5:24 and 5:12) should have been faster and reach 4:30 per kilometer.
Overall the run was quite calm. My lungs worked properly and it wasn’t hard to breathe in sprint sections. Maybe in the 6th kilometer I felt some heaviness in my legs and that was the reason why I didn’t reach my goal. As I had more energy I took some muscle ups and pull ups on a bar near my home. Everything would be awesome but the iron bar was really cold. Hope the winter will not be freezing cold and there will be possibilities to have these kind of exercises.
In conclusion, I’ve got to tell what I saw when I look at the mirros at home. The smile all over the face and sparkling eyes just blessed my decision to run.
Today I am happy that I’ve chosen to run yesterday since the temperature is lower and the wind ir colder today. So here comes the rule: if you can run today do not delay it until tomorrow.
Summary:
Distance: 8.05 km
Duration: 37:42 min
Pace: 4:41 min/km
Average heart rate: 167 bpm.
Have a good rest, Silent Runner
Monday – run day Had a run yesterday. I slept only about 5 hours at monday night and you might understand that my body was not fully rested.
Okay, I named it “The beginning” but this is not the first time I am writing about it. I’ve wrote my first summaries, experiences (call it whatever you want) on Facebook. I believe I must be more specific because there may be people who will read about me for the first time.
If anyone is interested I am from Lithuania.
I am a runner (I believe I can call me this way). I never had a coach. Everything I achieved and learned belongs only to me. At first I never meant to run at various events and try to improve my result. It was just a cure of a headache. Can’t understand? About six years ago a terrible headache came to my world. Try to imagine: when you wake up your head aches, when you are trying to focus in a lecture your head aches, even when you are tired and try to fall asleep your head hurts. What is more, after sleeping all night you wake up tired and not rested. I went to many doctors, had many examinations, tests. Every single doctor had his own hypothesis and suggested his own treatments. None of their drugs or natural medicines (herbs) helped. They even diagnosed me a depression which according to them caused these headaches. To my mind they mixed reasons with the result. I trully believe that the headache caused this “depression” and not vice versa. After two weeks of using antidepressants I realised that medicines is helpless to me and that I don’t want to live with all these drugs. Due to that I turned to running. Nowadays it is popular and many people takes part in this activity. But then it wasn’t so popular and sometimes I felt strange as passers-by glanced with their eys full of the astonishment. Day by day this strangeness gone. I do not declare that all my headache problems went away with the first run. It was a process that took time. Running doesn’t seem such a great activity at the beginning. It’s hard and you have to climb over yourself. You get tired after one kilometer and feel like giving up everything. But (if you are now starting your running activities remember!!!) it’s temporary and the discipline is the key factor that kills these beginner hardships. Day by day your body gets lighter you gain more strenght, stamina. I don’t remember how long did it take to overcome this difficult time for me but I believe that normally it could take about half of the year. If your discipline is strong and you follow your running schedule then day by day you are feeling faster, stronger, better. This was the case with me. Along with getting faster, stronger and better my headache began to recede. Firstly I noticed that in evenings I fall asleep easier. Then in mornings I began to feel rested and full of a energy. Next to running appeared push ups, pull ups, crunches and many other exercises. I believe that after about a year of running and other sport activities I released myself from this stupid headache and tiredness condition. To be honest my eyes gets wet when I remember how disappointed, sad and helpless I felt. And I am so grateful to myself (and of course my friend and family) that I didn’t gave up. So since then I practise running. Usually I run up to 10 kilometers twice a week (I wih I could more often). In various marathon or half marathon events I also take 10 kilometers distance. So I can say that I specialize in 10 km distance. I enjoy running this distance because I can maintain my highest speed and push myself to my limits. Everytime I get to the starting position the only thought that occupies me is to improve my best 10 km time record. Now it is set to 39:46. There were few times when in my trainings I ran 15 km or more (don’t really remember the distance). So I believe that the time will come when I will start in half marathon distance.
In fact now I am planning to find a coach as I feel that I have reached the top of my self training limits (talking about 10 km distance) and it became very hard to improve my best time. I need to get some secrets from a professional. To my mind a coach could squeeze out significantly better result from me. And this thought drives me crazy.
The introduction was long but it was a must to tell you the prehistory.. Also I believe that this migt motivate others to start this activity. Hope you’re still reading. Now let’s come back to present.
First of all, I need to mention that I am about to start in the Outside trail run at Verkiai park (Laikinis trail bėgimas Verkių parke) so havig practises is relevant. I had the run yesterday in my hometown Jurbarkas. Jurbarkas for me is a perfect place for running. Great walking/cycling paths that are winding along rivers Imsrė, Mituva and the great Nemunas are so eye-catching and relaxing that you just forget about your run. You just feel a harmony. Yesterday I wanted to run badly. The weather was quite mistic: mist everywhere, the dark and the cold penetrating through my termo clothes. Sounds strange but for me it’s almost the perfect weather for running. When I got to this path by Imsrė it was already dark and I was surprised because it was only half past 6 pm and the lihgts were turned off. Before the start I felt such a flow of an energy that I thought I could be really fast. But this dark path demotivated me as I had to change my route. When you run and at the same time have to plan your further run track you can’t maintain your speed at the best level. Finally I got to a segment of that path where lights were turned on. At that point I just was enjoying my activity but not trying to push the best of me. Only a loud barking of a dog somehere in the dark impelled me to increase a tempo. After 5 km of this run I stopped at the bar, had some muscle ups, push ups. Then I just had the rest 2.41 km of my run. At home a few more exercises and a warm shower. Felt delighted.
Summary:
Distance: 7.41 km
Duration: 33:03 min
Pace: 4:27 min/km
Average heart rate: 159 bpm.
Keep sportive, Silent Runner
