Scholarly and political articulations of problems associated with integration have commonly been framed as a choice between a policy of multiculturalism.... Multiculturalism, on the one hand, assigns individuals to membership in an essentialized cultural category, generating stereotypes such as the Turkish woman as victim. Individualism, on the other hand, often smuggles the cultural particularities of the dominant group into a discourse of universal human rights and justifies forced assimilation to these norms: The woman who wears a headscarf must be liberated so that she is free to expose her body to the male gaze or be free to engage in premarital sex.

Long time since I've done this

One more idle day in the valley, and then off I go. Only now, after having all of my close friends over for dinner and drinks with my dad, do I realize the reality of my situation.

I'm lucky, I'm blessed, I'm a lot of things. I have a lot of great things in my life--most of which will one day end in some way or another, but at the same time, I'm enjoying it all the best I can.

I'm going to take a trip. I'm going to take a trip that is amazing in some ways but meaningless in others. I'm at a point in my life where I realize that ultimately, life is what you make of it in your own story. A trip is a trip is a trip is something you never forget if you allow yourself to play into the drama of it. At the end of the day, it's not going to matter what really happened, but instead how it all felt.

I'm going to take a trip.
