so, uh, not only did this turn out gayer than expected, but it also left me with the dawning realisation that if we follow stolen earth/journey’s end metacrisis doctor logic…. pandora may or may not have taken over the capitol completely butt ass naked and honestly that’s a power move
the way p&p 2005 said: here's one of the most beloved enemies to lovers romances of all time, we don't need to change anything but here's keira knightley and the most socially awkward mr darcy you have ever seen. we're going to sprinkle in a hand touch and an almost kiss during an argument following a love confession in the pouring rain. what excellent boiled potatoes. yearn. you will think about this movie every day for the rest of your life.
my ultimate whoniverse headcanon is that the Doctor is actually many "real" people (in-universe) that are sort of channeled through the titular character. they're like avatars, but more, because they are all entirely unique, which matters.
if the Doctor were some kind of pure and singular entity, they would always have the same handwriting, the same interests, the same voice pattern, the same dress sense, the same way of moving in a space, yet none of them have any of that in common, not truly. and the reason is, of course, because the Doctors are played by different actors and written by different people - but within the mythos of this show, it's fun to try and justify it somehow.
come down this rabbit hole with me. the ending is so, so juicy and jarring, i promise.
hmm. handwriting.
obviously very different, even in just NuWho.
interests?
tend to vary. widely.
voice pattern: impossible to show in gifs, but you know what i mean. hell, most of them have different accents in addition to different lilts and filler words (10's "weeeell" for instance).
dress sense...
they're all extremely different but equally bad.
every single Doctor is a fundamentally different character. sure, same memories, same past, for the most part; and if we're going going take Bill's word for it, "What is anyone supposed to be except a bunch of memories? These are my memories, so this is me." yet...
what's the special sauce? why, beyond the probability of brain damage from traumatic regenerations, is the Doctor so different every single time?
we see this happen with a few other Time Lords, but it's rarely ever as severe. there's usually more consistency. the Corsair has the same tattoo in every body. the General, from "Hell Bent," implies that their last regeneration was the odd one out, both in gender and personality, but that they've otherwise been rather predictable.
meanwhile, the Doctor has literally NO conscious idea of who they're going to end up as. it's like roulette. they're fully expecting to change completely and radically, like every new body is a complete stranger, like every regeneration is death, and it usually is. the closest comparison we have to the Doctor is the Eleven, terrifyingly.
my explanation for this is that the Doctor, more than any other Time Lord, is affected by this idea of an "avatar."
Avatar: n. A temporary manifestation or aspect of a continuing entity. An embodiment or personification, as of a principle, attitude, or view of life.
i mean, this same exact idea is in the show "Avatar the Last Airbender." every single Avatar is fundamentally different, because the spirit is transferred, but it's just... a power. an essence. the person that wields it is the one who shapes it, not the other way around.
basically: the Doctor is a crowd of people, not a singular entity. they all have the same memories and the same name and the same moral codes (mostly), but that's as far as the similarities go.
what does that mean? well, it implies a hell of a lot.
maybe the Doctor, being the Timeless Child and all, is capable of possessing and embodying any person from any point in time and space. maybe every incarnation is just as unique as the actors who play them. they're literally real people, in-universe, not just constructed/randomized bodies. the amnesia, the post-regeneration trauma - that's just their minds being wiped clean and filled with The Doctor. the subconscious differences remain: fashion, speech, handwriting, interests. those qualities are usually present within hours of regeneration, as if the knowledge is already there, already present, even if it was never learnt.
maybe Six really is Commander Maxil, which is why he choked Peri. maybe Twelve really is Caecilius, or John Frobisher. maybe they've been hollowed out and replaced. maybe they're the same as they've always been, except so much more.
maybe "the Doctor" is an entity fundamentally unlike any other in the universe. they're rubbish at being a human or a Time Lord, or anything in between. however, they're endlessly curious about life and what makes it tick, and maybe, just maybe, they need a disguise in order to investigate. many disguises.
DOCTOR: Well, look round. Ask questions. People like it when you're with a baby. Babies are sweet. People talk to you. That's why I usually take a human with me.
My favourite Narvin moment is by far that bit in Enemy Lines where Narvin is in the panoptican doing his goodest spy work for Romana only to hear over the tannoy that she is a) resigning as president and b) STEALING HIS JOB
I like to imagine a Thick of It style rampage up to the presidential office to ask her what the hell she thinks she's doing. Full Malcolm Tucker. Just think about the day he's having. Poor boy.
aaron taylor johnson and charlie heaton were both groomed by older, more powerful women when they were new to the industry. terry crews spoke of being sexually harassed by an executive. brendan fraser was sexually assaulted and the experience was so horrible for him that it spiraled him into a depression, affecting his career. his assaulter never faced charges. the kevin spacey trial is coming up where he is being charged for sexual assault.
if you GENUINELY care for male victims, at least famous ones, you’d make some noise about these cases. however, these past few months, i have hardly seen a bolstering of these cases. instead i see a campaign of inappropriate memes and edits being made. is that your way to show you “care about male victims” lmao?? by making a mockery of a case discussing dv topics?? i think people like to hide behind the guise of caring about male victims when it’s really just an excuse to engage in inappropriate, obscene behaviors.
if you think that what gender you are attrached to as an indication of morality then....you're fucking sippin the radfem juice. i hear SO MANY young women say they feel bad for being attracted to men. they groan and say, "I know it's wrong but I find men so hot."
like...what??? have we really doubled back so far that we're back to shaming women for their sexual and romantic desires???
radical feminism hurts everyone, even the ppl it claims to be for.
reblogging with this addition because ive seen ppl saying "this post is so dumb. straight ppl wanna be oppressed so bad."
I am not straight. I am also not a cis woman. This post is not about being straight. It's about how radical feminism, terfs, gender crits, and their ilk will glady harm women, lgbt and queer people (not to mention the way they happily throw black, indigenous, disabled, etc. peoples under the bus) for the sake of their exclusionary rhetoric.
if you saw this post about not shaming people for their attraction to men and IMMEDIATELY thought it was only about cis women, then you may be sippin the exclusionary kool-aid.
“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is lowkey the most terrifying MCU movie in terms of stakes. Due to what happened to Sinister Strange, even if Wanda succeeded, something would’ve happened where her children rejected her or something equally as horrible happened. And Wanda would’ve tried again…
And again…
And again…
And again…
And again…until she would’ve caused an incursion. So that universe where everything was fucked up and destroyed, that would’ve happened to the main universe.
That’s why it lowkey kind of annoys me when people try to boil down her motivations to just, “Oh she just wants her kids back”. I mean, yeah, she does…but she’d literally destroy one or two universes doing so.
The Darkhold definitely following the rules of “be careful what you wish for” when it comes to magical items that claim to grant your every wish.
