So it all started when I got professionals in to fix my savagely overgrown garden. They finished the job, cleared up and left. After I was left to contemplate their handiwork for some time, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the diminutive figure of my once proud garden gnome, positioned sheepishly against the wall. The crime was there for all to see. Said gnome (of the zombie variety) had a clear chunk of plaster missing from his hat. This was something that would require attention.

Stage 1 – Epoxy Resin

I used white milliput to reshape the hat. The two part epoxy resin sets hard as rock within a few hours.

Stage 2 – Undercoat

Need to get an even tone over the model so that I can lay on the colour with ease. Used a couple coats of white acrylic paint.

Stage 3 – Base Colour

I got the basic colours for the gnome in place. Not sure yet about that bright green tone!

Stage 4 – Shading

This was the fun bit. Worked my way around the model using a combination of ink and acrylic. Started with darker shades, then dry-brushed over the highlights.

Stage 5 – Details

Used metallic paint for the buckle. Used a fine brush to details the dissipated pupils.

Final Results

Big improvement on the original! This bad-boy will be back in pride of place in my garden, ASAP…

Project Shed: Part 2
