on self care.
I really wish that self-care posts about how self care ought to be both being kind to yourself and building supports for yourself would acknowledge that for some people, building support stuff for yourself - so you can move to somewhere safe, go to school so you can have a better future, work so you can eat, talk about your feelings so you can heal, whatever - is, for some people. impossible. it’s not available to us.
to give an example: some people are severely physically disabled and bedridden while living with neglectful caregivers and have no way to move somewhere better because of a fear of even worse abuse, because when you’ve had people threaten to call the police on you because you ask them to respect you as a person and stop hurting you physically and emotionally, only eating once a day seems a lot less dangerous for you. and only eating once a day, and living in your own filth, and not having what you need to heal physically and emotionally while the people who abuse/neglect you take advantage of this to get things they want from you? again feels a lot less dangerous than being homeless because if you became homeless you would literally die. some people have to live like that. I’m one of those people.
some of us disabled people are living in unliveable situations. we are surviving in inescapable pain and filth and suffering. we have to make due with not being able to escape the bad things that are hurting us. we can’t move out to be on our own because we can’t afford it. we can’t go to school to have a better future because schools aren’t accommodating for severe disability and cost fucking money. some of us can’t work because it would literally kill us. some of us can’t talk about our feelings, or what we’re going through, because we have no one safe to talk to.
so those of us who have nothing use whatever we have to get through the day.
some of us eat good foods. some of us binge watch netflix every day. some of us sleep in bed all day. some of us use drugs. some of us spend what little we have on things like books, or video games, or netflix subscriptions, so we have something to get us through the hours where we’d otherwise be considering suicide.
if your disability activism routinely ignores the people in the worst circumstances then you’re doing activism wrong. this isn’t even scratching the surface of the kinds of dire unliveable situations some people have to live with, not just from a disability standpoint, but abuse, neglect, racism, transmisogyny, etc...
so please at least fucking acknowledge us instead of just pretending we don’t exist.
These are the photos of the Louisiana flood the media hasn’t shown you.
The situation is devastating.
It’s been raining every damn day over there. Twelve days of storms…and counting. Two feet of rain in less than 72 hours. They said the water came up so fast…
Is the government doing anything? Sending boats in to help? Anything?
I’ve heard mostly about private citizens helping each other or businesses matching donations to the red cross. I don’t know if I haven’t heard about the government helping because me and the fam didn’t need to be rescued or because they are doing the minimum to help
So I know I just reblogged this but I’d just thought I’d let those not in Louisiana know that it’s raining again
The rain isn’t gonna let up until next Sunday. Plus the high humidity…That shit is insane.

the first three images in my neopets tarot for an “about my pets” page - starting with TFC characters. victoreannas, duras, and lichesis. the cards chosen have a lot of symbolism for the characters and I hope that symbolism comes off in the art! /w\

when all my shit was fucked I got super into Summon Night 5 (I’d been waiting for the English release for months like a grubby lil goblin) and loved it! what i didn’t love was the obvious pandering to gross dudes (there are four inappropriately dressed young teen characters. FOUR. I DID NOT KNOW THIS WHEN I BOUGHT THE GAME AUUUGH) so i decided to take it upon myself to re-design the girls to be Not Disgustingly Clothed. I promised myself I’d draw this when I finally could and it happened! yay!
so. here’s my take on pariet. aka my darling angel non-binary child

i don’t think I’ve posted this on tumblr but I’ve been working very hard on a new userlookup for neopets for the last two months. it would have been done in december if my chair + bedframe hadn’t broken! now that I have both again I’ve been able to work on it more and I’m close to being done - need to finish the big pet pic, remove the text from the footer + possibly add more weight to me faeriesona so it’s not lopsided, possibly re-do the lil trades/auctions/etc illustrations, and finish + add in the link illustrations
it’s a lot of hard work but it’s been very rewarding, if only because it’s been a challenge making my dream userlookup come to life ;p
