Doctor Woe - ending scene script from The Eight Doctors (1993)
Script I wrote from the scene in my Doctor Woe AU of the Seventh Doctor’s final moments and regeneration, doomed one-sided Wenclair enjoyers this is for you
(Hearing the various TARDIS’ dematerialize, the 7th Doctor weakly smiles to herself)
Seven: It’s done…(collapses to the ground)
(As the TARDIS’ leave, Enid is shown running towards where the Seventh Doctor is, with archive audio of quotes from past Doctors playing in the background)
One (V.O.): There must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs, and prove to me that I am not mistaken in mine.
Two (V.O.): Our lives are different to anyone else’s. That’s the exciting thing! There’s nobody in the universe who can do what we’re doing!
Three (V.O.):…and I ran down that mountain, and I found that the rocks weren't grey at all. They were red, brown and purple gold. And those pathetic little patches of sludgy snow, they were shining white. Shining white with sunlight...
Four (V.O.): I suppose the best way to find out where you come from is to find out where you're going, and then work backwards.
Five (V.O.): For some people, small, beautiful events is what life is all about!
Six (V.O.): Planets come and go. Stars perish. Matter disperses, coalesces, forms into other patterns, other worlds. (Enid finally reaches the Doctor, seeing her on the ground, injured) Nothing can be eternal.
Seven: (Glances towards Enid)…Howdy, roomie…
Enid: Doctor…Doctor! (Rushes to the Doctor’s side) Doctor, are you okay? (Sighs) Good, you haven’t changed.
Seven: Yet. I had to use the energy from my regeneration prematurely to overload the siphoner. If anything, it’s cost me what little time I had left. The Watcher’s finally caught up to me. And this wound…(gestures towards her injury) has done its work.
Enid: (Crying) Don’t…just hang on, somehow you’ve always figured out something and ended up okay, you can do it now, just…just don’t leave me…
Seven: And who said I was leaving you?
Enid: Y-you’ll be different…and maybe you’ll know me but I won’t know you. You’ll be the Doctor, but you won’t be my Doctor, you…you won’t be Willa. I can’t handle that. I can’t let you go.
Seven: You will. You handled it when you learned what I really was, all the way back in Jericho. And it still never stopped you from knowing I was still the friend you knew, or from boarding the TARDIS. I wouldn’t have taken you with me if I didn’t think you were suited for it. Do you really think that when we first met, you would have comprehended any of what you’ve done since then? You are so much stronger than you know, Enid.
Enid:…How can you be so okay with this?
Seven: Because I’ll still be by your side, same as all my prior selves. You only truly saw their faces today, but you knew them before then. You saw them all within me. All that any of us have ever been, we always carry with us. You’ll still see me here when my face changes, that I promise. And you’ll still see Wednesday Addams too, just as you still do now.
Enid: (Smiling through her tears) Is…is there at least anything I can do, to make it easier?
Seven: Just one thing. If you could undo my braids-
Enid: Yeah, of course. (Starts unbraiding the Doctor’s pigtails)
Seven: Thank you. If nothing else, you’ll be a far better sight to start a new incarnation with than the Rani was.
(This gets a small giggle out of Enid; the Doctor gives a rare, warm smile in response)
Seven: Thank you, Enid, for staying. I know I’m better off knowing you as well. And to the rest…Mel, Ace, Benny, I salute you all. I’d like to imagine that in this incarnation, I at least always did what was necessary no matter what…and yet I wish deeply I’d never failed to be kind in the process. I’ll have to remember that, for…
(Enid, finished with unbraiding the Doctor’s hair, turns around to see the Watcher standing before them)
Enid: Well, it’s…like you said, right? Whole universe is only so great because it’s always changing.
Seven: (Closing her eyes in peaceful acceptance) Wouldn’t have it any other way.
(As Enid watches in bittersweet awe, the Watcher merges into the Seventh Doctor in a blinding light; when it fades, the Eighth Doctor lays before Enid, his eyes opening for the first time as he looks towards her with a small smile)
Eight: Ah…hello again, Ms. Sinclair.
