What does it mean
We are monitoring the situation
where's that post about how when you're hungover you start talking to yourself like a mayor might address the town after a natural disaster. "we will rebuild" and so on
Women's Day has been so heavily co-opted by bourgeois feminism but let's never forget that it originated from the labor movement under the organization of socialists like Theresa Malkiel and Clara Zetkin. It was always meant to be the International WORKING Women's Day.
Theresa Malkiel was a Jewish refugee & sweatshop worker turned head of the Socialist Party of America's Women's National Committee, and Clara Zetkin was a prominent leader of the German socialist movement.
It was a Women's Day gathering in Petrograd that snowballed into the Russian Revolution, a fact often erased.
3D printers are a really interesting case study in like, what happens when a new consumer technology lets you automate something that would previously have been really difficult to do by hand.
Which is that you get a wave of get-rich-quick schemes that don't actually work, a bunch of "wow isn't this so cool" tech demos that lose novelty super quickly, and weirdos who don't appreciate art skills going "this is going to make art skills useless.
But then, people who actually have useful skills in engineering and art look at the tech and go "this is fucking perfect." The use of the new tech becomes a hobby unto itself when someone who's actually interested in its inner workings and capable of doing something new approaches it with genuine creativity.
In the end, the people who just want a slop machine to make them rich move on to the next big thing because the technology never interested them in the first place. What remains is what's always been true: You have to put in effort to make something great, and new technology doesn't replace that.
the way "the average tumblr user" talks about sex and drugs is corny and annoying, but the only thing perhaps more corny and annoying is Another tumblr user grandstanding about how immature and infantile other tumblr users are about sex and drugs in contrast to you, gigachad9000 who fucks like a champ and totally does tons of drugs but like not enough drugs that it loops back around into being pathetic again and is definitely NOT compensating for anything don'tevenworryaboutit. oohhh my god you've had more sex than the average responder to a poll on the nerdy subcultures website? should we tell everyone? should we throw a party? should we invite andrew tate?
So many people on this website (and wider society) treat misogyny as something that woman can 'run away' from or just avoid if she's smart enough. That if she just dates the right men, chooses the right job, the right friends, the correct hobbies, and consumes the correct media, then she can free herself from patriarchy or atleast the worse of its effects.
Not only does this set up patriarchy as something individual and nebulous (therefore able to avoided with correct individual actions) rather than something systematic and wide reaching, but it also sets up misogyny experienced by women as being that women's personal failing. And therefore, somewhat deserved. After all, what did you expect when you married a man Like That? When you went into one of those kind of jobs, when you picked up That hobby? When you read that kind of book?
At its core it gives women no room for complaint (after all if YOU chose better YOU wouldn't be in this situation), diminishes the importance of organising (why organise when misogyny is experienced due to ~life style choices~ rather than systems of oppression) and lastly obscures the very nature by which patriarchy functions, centering women in a way that implies they bring patriarchy upon themselves rather than have it inflicted on them BY men. But what can I say? Who doesn't love to blame women for it all.

Happy birthday to my favourite anime Revolutionary Girl Utena—this show is so very special to me and I’m obsessed with Juri’s curls

Anthy Himemiya & Utena Tenjou - Utena, la fillette révolutionnaire
The two pieces brought together. I got a bit lazy and reused some framing elements I’d already painted for another rgu fanart. I’m calling this one “The Armor was a Lie.”
Once again, here’s a version with Anthy’s glasses
my piece for @rgu-zine !! this was my second zine ever and my first physical zine!! its been so so so cool to work on this with so many other talented people and then have it be printed in an actual book!!! its been an honor to have been apart of this project :D

people replying to my "you can just say you have food poisoning americans always have food poisoning" comment on my thanksgiving excuses post with delighted agreement that they too have noticed americans constantly have food poisoning, but you have forgotten or have missed that we did an actual survey just a scant few months ago and the americans on this site reported in GREAT NUMBERS that we would continue eating at a restaurant that gave us diarrhea/vomiting something like 4-5 times (or forever), while almost everyone else in the world kept it to a solid once, or twice if they really weren;t sure. food poisoning is *genuinely* out of control in the usa, we have awful food safety at every level of the food production chain down to the actual people cooking food at home not understanding temperatures or washing their hands. it was a whole thing, it went on for weeks, and it branched off in multiple directions like "please use your dishwasher if you have one" and "what do you mean you cant tell what gave you food poisoning? oh it's because you're always getting food poisoning? wait what do you mean 'everything your mom/grandma cooks gives ou food poisoning so it doesnt matter'?" anyway yes there is a food safety crisis going on in this country and its getting worse lmao
one single incident of food poisoning can permanently disable you btw. its one of the primary ways people end up with narcolepsy, POTS, MCAS, ME-CFS, gastroparesis and/or fibromyalgia. "americans are constantly getting sick" is an actual thing, and most americans appear to think that having food poisoning multiple times a year is just a normal part of eating food
the slow casual creep of misogyny back into every point of our lives both digital and physical is making me feel fucking insane
