Just one thing -
"He doesn't get to decide how we feel!"
"What we're doing to him isn't bullying, we can tell that!!"
I won't comment on the subject matter of the criticism - I have set opinions on it, and I'm sure others closer to the issue are the ones whose voices really need to be heard. But time after time I've seen this very hypocritical thing play out on a lot of posts.
Rick Riordan may not be perfect - but he tried.
If he's trying to defend the books, that's wrong sure. But please remember that he wrote those books for his child who struggled with learning problems. Those books mean a lot to him. It doesn't mean that you have to forgive him, but it won't hurt to be a little empathetic.
As a person from a colonial country with tremendous internal diversity, I know navigating questions of representation and culture are hard, and it can be especially painful when the work is something you love, or the person is much cherished despite stereotyping you. We can educate, and if the person doesn't listen we can chose to break away
But this endless cycle of stanning and cancelling has to stop. It's high time we realize that nobody is perfect.
