I like to explain gender to cis people like kittens in boxes
Some people are born into a box and it is very cozy and they just fit. They sometimes don't even notice the box is there and they don't really get why some people would want to eave the box.
For others, the box doesn't fit so well, it feels like it's a trap like it's breaking under their weight, like it's an incomprehensively roomy and dark space they were never meant to enter. Some of us spend most of our lives not noticing how wrong it feels to live in this box, until one day we do and we can't live on in this box anymore.
So we jump out. We find a new box that fit us better or we try and change ourselves to fit in one of the already existing boxes or we build a brand new box. Some people don't leave the boxes they just stretch out the box they're already in to make it fit them. Some people hop around between boxes and have the time of their lives, some people streeetch themselves out and hang out in all the boxes at once. There are infinite ways to exist both in and out of the boxes and we could spend our whole lives trying new ones out.
For me I think I tore a hole in my original box, rolled myself right up into a new one, then jumped out of the boxes entirely and started running around, shedding all over and chewing on your slippers.
