this is a sea turtle. I know they can live for over 500 years but I never knew they got this big
Oh, my!
Tuesday motivation from SpongeBob SquarePants creator Stephen Hillenburg in the Nick Burbank courtyard! đđđĄ
I honestly have no idea how anyone learns to socialize in public (or private) schools.
You mash a thousand kids together
Segregate them by age and class
Consume 70% of their time
End up creating heirarchies and messiness of bullying and junk
And somehow think that by doing this, students will learn how to socialize when:
People ARENâT densely populated
People ARENâT segregated by age and class
People DONâT have all of their time tied up and instead have freedom
People ARENâT put into strict hierarchies, DONâT have repetetive bullying, and HAVE class mobility
Seriously, how would you expect that to happen? How is that an accurate simulation of the real world?
TRUTH!
In which I (sleepily) rant about Harry Potter and Christian homeschooling
Harry Potter was something to fear growing up. For those of us who were aware of the booksâ existence, we classified them as âdangerous.â We were told that these books would invite demons into our homes. My mother was convinced that the only way J.K. Rowling could think up such things were if demons influenced her dreams and caused her to write it. No shit. Sheâs thoroughly convinced that this is the same case with the author of the Twilight books too.
This type of paranoid, extremist thinking isnât uncommon at all in the fundamentalist Christian homeschooling communities. With my experience down in the South where religion already runs rampant, I witnessed how that atmosphere fueled the twisted ideologies of Christian homeschooling parents to the point of insanity. If they believe that demons are real and that bringing in certain secular material that âpromotesâ witchcraft will invoke demons, then whoâs going to stop them? After all, the parents know whatâs bestâŚright?
What happens to the brains of these children who are so sheltered from the world in the name of keeping them Christian and pure? Because in this world, demons are real and youâll go to Hell if you donât accept Jesus as your Savior. Fear is instilled in us from the very beginning. Fear of the outside world, other people (mostly âunbelieversâ), sex, and losing our eternal salvation. We were forced to grow up in this rigid way of thinking, lest we lose ourselves to the âsecular world.â
The religious homeschool world can be a pretty fucked up place to grow up in, though.
But as it turns out, thankfully, Harry Potter isnât evil. Rejecting Christianity didnât make me a terrible, immoral, hateful person. If anything, leaving Christianity made me a better person because Iâm a kinder and much more compassionate human being now. And yo, Harry Potter is the bomb. Like, who the hell wants to deprive their children of this stuff?! Itâs awesome! Unlike what my mother taught me, it doesnât teach you spells. It takes you on this fucking magical journey andâŚdamn, one of my favorite book series ever so far.
Stop depriving your kids, people, and just let us live a little. Life is short.
Yaaaaaas! So true indeed. I wasnât allowed to watch Harry Potter growing up and I hated it. SMH... I will never be this rigid with my kids! In fact, they will be watching Harry Potter very soon. LOL

Homestead chores đđ The average person would use almost all of the water I haul in this one trip during a single shower and we make it last for about a month with a family of four. Itâs crazy to learn about how we use our resources.
This is amazing! I so look forward to homesteading.
Why I loved being unschooled
1. I never had to conform or lose my identity in school. Not that every child in school does but I didnât have the same peer pressure âschool kidsâ did. 2. I grew to become very close with my brothers and cousins, and still have a very close bond even though my cousins all went to school. 3. I had the opportunity to really learn my passions and spend time with them. I knew human anatomy and human evolution crazy well when I was 12. 4. I learned to be responsible for my own bedtime, to eat when I was hungry. Self regulate and be independent. 5. I feel confident in my decisions to go to college, not because the main stream wants me too but because the career is what I really feel like Iâll love. 6. My passions and talents are so varied and awesome. Music, history, evolution, literature, anatomy, animals, self sustaining, crafting, upcycling, sustainable housing, social justice, dance, sculpting etc etc.
Yes! I love this.
So can we have more homeschooled characters in media?
Characters who are homeschooled but still have lives and friends because homeschooled does not automatically equal sheltered beyond belief
Characters who are homeschooled for religious reasons
Characters who are homeschooled because they learn better with these methods than at school
Characters who are homeschooled who are just as active as the public schooled characters in whatever plotline
Characters who are homeschooled by single parents, or multiple parents, or grandparents or any other legal guardian they have
Characters that have online school or study center
Characters who have had good experiences with homeschooling instead of âI have no friends!â (seriously why is this a thing?)
Just⌠characters who are homeschooled

Early School Start Times Are Holding Back Teens
Wait, less than 20% of high schools in the US start after 8:30? 8:30 was my early class twice a week in year 11 because I had a combined class with other schools in town. 7:45 starts once a week for vocal ensemble were the freaking worst thing in the history of bad things. WHAT TIME ARE YOU PEOPLE STARTING SCHOOL????
My high school started at 7:34, but if you wanted a spot in the parking lot, you had to be there at around 6:50 (or 7:00 if you were feeling really risky). The school I teach at starts at 8:10, and THANK GOD FOR THAT. My boyfriend and I are talking moving in together next year, and among other things Iâll be giving up (my babies! my department head!) if Iâm the one to relocate, my start time is one of them that will break my heart.
My high school started at 7:40, but my mom (who is also a teacher) starts at 7:20
Eighth grade starts at 7:20 at my new school. Thatâs too early for the teacher, let alone students. đł
We had to be at junior high and high school by 7am or 6:45.
Jesus. In Australia our school started at 9am. 8:15 if you had an early class. And still that was too early for me cause two days a week I was up till 11 watching Star Trek: TNG (or writing fanfic).
My hs started around 7:30, but I was there at 5:30 for sports. Of course I was usually up until 2, sometimes 3 am, to finish homework. 0/10 do not recommend.
My high school in Texas started and both of them in Mississippi started at 7:30. In Diberville, I had to be up and at the bus stop at 6:25 in the morning beside we had a rural route.
My school doesnât start until 9, but I always end up not getting enough sleep because of homework and other things
Tfw youâre homeschooled and can start whenever
Logic in Public Schools

Shoutout To All My Homeschool Peeps!
Hey â reblog if you were homeschooled. DO IT FOR SCIENCE. We were homeschoolers. We understand doing things FOR SCIENCE. :D
Haha! Spongebob joke. Homeschooling is chill. Donât do it now, youâre gonna do it later. But itâs not forced! ;)Â
Homeschool problems.
1. Having to skip school for a couple of days bc the Internet was out.
2. Everyone assuming you are an idiot bc you do school at home.
3. Thinking âhomeschoolâ means you just sleep all day. (Ew. No thatâs far from it, bye.)
4. Having someone ask you why you arenât in school and you having to explain that youâre homeschooled.
5. People assuming you have 0 friends. (Rolls eyes.)
6. âWho teaches you?â Myself. I teach myself.
7. âOh! So no summer break?â (We have holidays just like everyone else. Hard to believe, I know)
8. âYou actually learn stuff? Wow!â (Isnât that what you do in school?)
9. âYou need human interaction with kids your age, thatâs why you hate people.â (I donât hate people actually, I just have anxiety.)
10. âHomeschooling must be so easy!â (âŚUhhhhh)
Stereotypes. Break em. Hard.
