i was talking to one of my coworkers about my trip and she asked me where i was going and i said austria and she looked at me all confused and then she said “like…austria-hungary?” and i wasn’t quite sure how to break it to her

For the record, they were arguing over *whether or not they should get married*. She was pro, he was con, saying that if they loved each other the ring and the marriage certificate were unnecessary, that their love would be the commitment they needed. This was a fight they’d had for weeks. He didn’t just propose to shut her up in a totally unrelated argument…. him proposing was also him saying “you’re right, you won the argument” and that’s why this is cute.
I think we should all support this trend too!
If a woman has a heartbeat you can’t tell her what to do with her goddamn body!
*facepalm* yall realize that if youre saying a woman having a heartbeat means she gets to say what happens to her body, then youre admitting a fetus with a heartbeat has a say in what happens to their body, right……………
You do realize that a “heartbeat” at six weeks is not actually a heartbeat because no heart exists right………… -V
“why can’t female heroes kick arse in heels” because it’s not practical and will literally snap your damn ankle you can scream weaponised femininity all you want but first off, you need to admit that they’re not an almighty symbol of empowerment, and secondly that if you do a job with a lot of physical activity in heels you’re risking your own safety. all these women fighting in heels on tv are going to end up seriously injuring themselves.
weaponised femininity is a concept made up in an attempt to get us to embrace the industries created to hold us back/profit from our insecurities so that we can continue to fit into the male expectation of what a woman should be and not question why we are forced to spend thousands on our appearance every year
just a small anecdote. I had a friend who worked in theater; she was the stage manager and an actress came to her in tears one day because the director absolutely refused to let her do a choreographed fight scene in less than 3 inch heels because “they’re platforms so you’ll be okay.” My friend, who is a woman’s size 10, brought her own heels in the next day and DEMANDED the director put them on and try the choreography before the actress did it. He finally agreed to change it, without putting the heels on.
so like I know you might think of “all those women on tv fighting in heels” as fictional woman who WOULD hurt themselves in real life, but its fiction so its okay…except those women are portrayed by real actresses who are actually fighting in actual heels, being directed by dudes who have never worn a pair of heels in their lives, alongside men who aren’t expected to constantly wear things that make their stunts 2x more dangerous than they have to be. Just a thought.
Men take “let’s see feminine women being badass” to mean “let’s see women impractically focused on their appearance in combat situations.“
That’s why I loved Black Panther even more Nakia took off her heels and used them as weapons and was running and driving around barefoot in that one scene
A number of stuntwomen have spoken out about getting injured on sets because the character is wearing heels and skimpy clothing that provide no protection or padding. It literally harms rl women.
https://amp.theguardian.com/film/2016/jun/29/why-stuntwomen-are-in-more-danger-than-men
The only way I wanna see a women fight with heels is if she takes them off and fights with them a la Mulan/Nakia style.
sorry i can’t hear the noise of male entitlement over the sound of Evangeline Lilly and every other woman sighing in frustration
They photoshopped the heels onto wonder woman. Not even Gal Gadot could fight in them, but it was so important to The Look™ that they frame by frame added them. Gal wore flats to the red carpet in protest.
My high school had a dress code that required skirts and pantyhose/tights for girls. Our male gym teacher insisted ten minutes was more than enough time to change after gym class. We asked him if he’d ever tried to put on pantyhose over sweaty/damp legs. He tried it. Took 45 minutes. Two things changed: all-male school board changed the dress code for girls to include dress pants, and our gym change time increased to 20 minutes. Men literally have no frame of reference for their privilege and misogyny and need to be schooled.
“Weaponized femininity” with the current definition is so stupid. I’d like to see reasonable weaponized femininity. Hair clips that can double as throwing knives, clutches that can be transformed into shields, wearing dresses both for the look and for the added range of motion. None of this “Fighting in 5 inch heels” or “Stupidly tight spandex that you can’t move in but still Looks Good.”
Anybody out there advocating for “weaponized femininity” needs to be advicating for practicality and safety as well
I know you’re tired bitch but keep fucking going
Black sails fans are such an opportunistic bunch, I feel like every time a popular tv show fucks up we just roll up like, “excuse me, my condolences, but if I could have a moment of your time…”
Anyone: I wish writers would just tell satisfying narratives that stem from character motivation and not cheap shock value. And also idk, maybe let gay people exist and be important??
Black Sails fan, grabbing a hurdy gurdy: MY TIME HAS COME
asdfgjhgjk I’m losing it at the handful of people who haven’t even watched the show reblogging this with comments like “yeah, you guys really are like that”
9 year old me: mom you’re beautiful!
My Mom: no, I’m ugly. The ugliest. I’m a horrible pig of a person
Other people: (to me) you look just like your mom
Me: so I’m ugly
Now:
My 9 year old: mom you’re beautiful
Me: thank you! I don’t always see it very well in myself though because my brain lies to me a lot and tells me I’m ugly even though I’m not. But I can’t be ugly because we look a lot alike and you’re beautiful. My brain is just a bully
My kid: that’s right! We’re BOTH beautiful!
Me: yes we are!
_____
And that my friends is called thinking about how your self depricating words can hurt other people around you. I can’t see that I’m beautiful most of the time but I can acknowledge that the issue is my ability to see myself in a positive way.
But calling myself ugly just hurts the people who love me. It could even convince my kid that they are also ugly and further the cycle
And sometimes it’s really hard just by saying “I’m being mean to myself because my brain lies a lot matters
My daughter: “mama, your belly is chubby.”
Me, internally: ouch
Me, out loud: “well, yeah! Because I am chubby! But also because I grew TWO WHOLE BABIES in it, and that stretched it out a bit!”
My daughter, in the most encouraging tone possible as she reaches up and pets my belly: “it did SUCH a good job.”
And y'know what? Hell yeah it did. #rockon

Angry and scared
I have seen a trend in the pro-abortion movement lately. It seems to be twofold. On one hand there seems to be a push to turn abortion from an unfortunate but essential procedure to protect women’s health to a thing to be proud of and celebrated, the same as one would celebrate some kind of achieving some goal of self-improvement. The other is to shift from saying the fetus is a clump of cells, or a parasite (which is still popular) to saying, yeah it’s human, yeah its an individual being, but its not a person, its not important. The Convergence of these two things is horrifying. Are we really at a place in our society and culture where w will Celebrate the genocide of an entire class of people?
This is why The Georgia LIFE law is so scary to the pro=choice crowd. Not because it will send women to prison (it will NOT) or criminalize miscarriages (It will NOT) but because in order to challenge the law the only argument that can be made now is to argue that an unborn child is not a person. That the metric of heartbeat, which as far as I know, is medically one of the primary designations of life in people, is not alive, is not a person and therefore is not entitled to rights and equal protection of the law under the 14th amendment.
It’s debatable whether the zygote/embryo/fetus is a person. It’s also debatable whether it’s a US citizen, seeing how the 14th amendent itself begins with “All persons born or naturalized in the United States…”
I recognize the zygote/embryo/fetus is a living human (unless it has died) - although I don’t believe life begins at conception - and I debate as though it’s a person.
Keeping that in mind - no human has the right to survive using another human’s body without their consent. If the zygote/embryo/fetus should be considered *equal*, wouldn’t that mean it should not have a right no other human has?
And, on the other hand, there’s the pregnant person. Pressuring, manipulating, coercing, or otherwise forcing them to continue or to terminate their pregnancy would violate their bodily autonomy and reproductive rights. Why should their rights be violated? Shouldn’t they be considered *equal* as well?
To parallel - organ donations are voluntary. If you decided to donate, you could potentially save eight lives. If you decided not to, people could die. People die every day waiting on transplants, but donations are still voluntary. Your bodily autonomy would not be violated so eight other people could survive. Even if you were dead.
Not only are y’all advocating for the zygote/embryo/fetus to have a special right no one else has but y’all are also advocating for pregnant people to have their rights violated. How is that equal?
And the bit about the law not criminalizing miscarriages or sending people to prison is just… blatantly untrue
Because we’ve had laws like this before. Some countries still do. And when performing or having an abortion is illegal, and an at-home abortion looks a lot like a miscarriage (especially if medical care ends up needed), every miscarriage is a potential crime scene. Women can—and have already!—end up being questioned and possibly arrested.
This is not some alarmist hypothetical, this is something that has already happened and that we don’t want to see happen again.
Some random person saying that these bills won’t send pregnant people to jail or criminalize miscarriages doesn’t mean they won’t. Even before these current bills, this happened, and now it will continue happening with the blessing of state governments. Acting like pro-choicers are getting needlessly upset about something that “won’t happen” is gaslighting. -V
