You’re weak, Dorcas Meadowes.
Thoughts of the like plagued the Ravenclaw’s thoughts; and the most terrible thing of all was that girl truly believed it. She had always adored fiction so much, for it provided an escape from reality which terrified her so. She loved poetry and writing, for they were ways in which she expressed herself, without really ever saying what she meant in words that people necessarily understood — Expression without judgement. Nature was where she felt most comfortable; for it expected nothing of her — It was raw, it was real — and she had long ago resolved that not even she could not disappoint something so beautiful. She glanced at Lily in wonder; for how could she be so strong? Herself, Edward, everyone was being so strong. And so it came again — You’re weak, Dorcas Meadowes.
Hues pooled with tears at the rims, Dorcas shook her head slightly — speaking amongst trembling breaths. ❝I can’t help this, Lily. T-This.. This visceral feeling of fear and horror — An inextricable, constant hopelessness that haunts me. I-I.. close my eyes; I blink — a-and.. and I see her. That woman. That poor woman. And yet I want to keep my eyes closed; because once I open my eyes, I have to face the terrible reality that someone in this castle could be capable of such an act… B-because if I keep my eyes closed, and I see her, then maybe she’s not really gone.❞ … ❝I-I’m trying not to give in, a-and I’m trying not to let them scare me — But I’m not like you.. I-I’m not strong. I.. feel as if I’m naked in the dark, with nothing. No veil between me and this suffocating darkness; all I can see with my waking eyes are the shadows of malevolence that engulf us.*❞

From the vigorous start to the exhausted diminishing, Dorcas's words silenced Lily, petrified her. In the stillness, a sense of awed reverence pervaded the girl. And all while she listened, she was preoccupied with identifying this feeling, investigating its source. What were these symptoms of? What was Lily's self-diagnosis? It struck her in the quiet that followed the words like a storm had died down. Lily was able to to devote her mind to decoding her own reaction because it was unnecessary to do so for Dorcas's words. They just clicked, perfectly understandable, perfectly accessible to her. She identified with each shaken syllable, each forceful fear that fell from the girl's lips. She felt them.
The only difference between Dorcas and Lily was this -- one of them voiced their feelings while the other suppressed them and stowed and them away.
And Lily admired her so. Her ability to open up, the lack of care for how people might react or how it might shape an opinion of her. To Lily, that was brave, that was strong. "It's -- it's alright." As quickly as her body stilled, it jumped back into actions. Lily's arms drew Dorcas into an embrace, she rubbed circles into her back and hoped it was soothing somehow. In addition to calming her down, Lily felt the need, the obligation to communicate something to the girl. "Dorcas," The voice whispered soft and strained, because this was hard for her to say but it was right and just, too. Thus, she departed a secret."You've just -- well, you've just voiced what everyone else is too afraid to say. Including me. No, especially bloody me. If you think I'm strong, that I can follow any of my own advice, then I've got you fooled. And you are a fool if you think you're weak, Dorcas Meadowes. This is normal, it's okay. You're not alone. Even if it seems like it because we're all like me, too stupidly stoical and -- and proud and weak to say how we feel. You'll never be alone in this. You'll be the one who reminds us all that we aren't."
I appreciate that…Lil’s it’s going to be alright, you know that don’t you? I’m not sure how or when, but things will get better eventually.
We can’t let this take over and control our lives. If we let that happen then they win.

Unworthy. It was like the word was following her around, the way it echoed through the halls, ricocheting off stone walls. She had heard it a half a hundred times since that night. As time passed, Lily felt it addressed her, almost. Now, the very sounds of the syllables boiled her blood like an incantation over a potion.
And it did more than just that.
Though she refused to show it, the catastrophe has shaken her just as much as it had anyone else. Consoling people like Dorcas helped Lily soothe her own ferocious fear. "Nothing." Her voice sounded strange from lack of use, but a smile covered up the oddity quickly. She softened. Coating over the harsh atmosphere with a radiated warmth, Lily continued. "That's what they'll want, y'know. That's what this was all about. And I know it's easier said than done, Dorcas -- just trust me, on that -- but we...we shouldn't just let them scare us. We shouldn't give in to that, not if we can help it."
"I guess so."
"Oh, but it’s a great nickname, Lils. And so creative. But if you say so. What about Lily-flower? Ah, it’s different. The start of term is always the same - I mean, the sorting is boring, and Dumbledore could really try to say something new."
"Creative? Marlene, if I had a sickle for every time I'd heard that I'd be rich. That's -- I can't decide which is worse -- but that's equally disgusting. Different how? Maybe, yeah, but the food is flawless."
…I don’t really know. It’s hard to think of anything else. Merlin, so would I, and that is the first time I’ve ever said so! Not that I’ll ever let the younger years hear me say so.
It's too soon to do anything that would cheer anyone up, really. It's too late to have saved -- there's just nothing, nothing to do. Worry not, Molls, your spotless reputation is safe with me.
I understand the anger. I pity anyone who has had to deal with me recently…I think I’ll be slightly less on edge once I get an owl from home. Just to know they’re alright…
…Yeah. Talking about something else would be good.
Lets just leave at that, then. Yeah, I think everyone's anxious for the post. But it's hard to write without worrying them, too.
What else is there, though? I think I'd give all my savings for some prank or joke that could take everyone's minds off it.

I'm glad to hear it. I -- I don't like to talk about it. I'm angry, though -- I'll say that much. It never fails to make me angry. Merlin help my dorm mates.
