I am grown up woman who always loved watching whump scenes even when i was a little kid and didn't know what this feeling meant, the feeling of watching a fictional character getting injured or fainting and then giving you whumperflies straight to your chest, i felt incredible happy discovering years later that there was a whole community of people who shared this understanding of whumpy things, talking about whump, making gifs and fanart and fanfiction about it and all these people had even invented labels and had their own preferences about all kinds of whump, loving being here with all of you guys.

Best place for a whumpee to be: jail cell separate from but visible to a friend.

Medic and whumpee captured together, medic desperately trying to walk Whumpee through first aid before they pass out from blood loss, unable to get to them.

Leader whumpee getting beat to shit in clear view of their team and none of them can help.

Rivals/enemies captured together, watching the other get hurt and realizing in the worst way possible that some part of them cares for the other.

Holding hands through the bars.

Blood going cold when the other hand goes limp.

Whumpees who don't realize they were Whumped until later

Whumpee casually talking to their team about their time with Medic where they dug into their wounds to see what really was the issue and told them that they didn't have pain killers before trailing off and realizing how absolutely messed up that sounds

The team talking about all their training methods and then Whumpee goes and talks about how their mentor used to make them train until they passed out. The team goes very quiet at this

Reminiscing on memories and fondly recounting them before realizing that Whumper was not giving them advice on their methods and instead just brutally beating them down

Whumpee on a new team talking about how their old team and how they shunned them from most things and had them do most of the work. New team is appalled by the old team's behavior and is now demanding Whumpee to give names

"Well yeah I was there for a while but the most that they did was take my blood and put me on morphine most of the time and ran these weird tests on my powers and...Oh. Oh that wasn't normal."

need That character absolutely delirious with fear. recoiling from everything. unable to parse what's happening around them, their mind stuck in fight or flight. shaking and hyperventilating. completely unconsolable even as they're wrapped in a crushing hug.

Shared sleeping spot: enemy to cartetaker

When caretaker begrudgingly drags the wounded enemy into their house (or the enemy bangs into their house, your choice), there are a lot of options you can play around about where caretaker will lay whumpee down. A couch is a classic choice, it’s practical and casual, everyone loves it. Then we have a spare bedroom, give your whumpee as much comfort as they can get without force-proximity immediately. But the most intimate one is caretaker’s own bedroom. Let someone have access to your most private and safe place just because the person deeply needs it is something so humane. In many cases, caretaker can even sleep with them if that’s an enemy-to-lover.

But what if it’s not a house, what if the enemy is rescued/escape to the caretakers’ campsite instead? Bedrolls and cots can work very well. But that's not the case we are talking about today. Let just assume that caretakers don’t have both of those, that the whole team just sleeps together on a shared mat in their barrack tent? And the only place they have to place the-literally-guy-blow-their-storage-2-months-ago down is amongst them. The mere idea of it in any other situation is LUDICROUS and UNIMAGINABLE. But in the present, it’s the most practical thing to do. Not like our good guys can let a bloody, half-dead man lie on the ground and sleep well with that. And truthfully, they know with this broken, feverish state, whumpee is incapable of even breathing properly, let alone standing up and stabbing someone. So that's have to do.

That's night, one person is staying up for guarding duty, but even they themselves don’t know whether they're guarding from him or FOR him.

“Can you just please try to eat something?” “I’m gonna get sick, please don’t…”

“Lay down, you’re not doing anyone any favors by throwing up all over the room just because you’re incapable of resting.”

“When was the last time you ate?”

“You look queasy.” “I feel queasy.”

“I’m not a doctor, but you haven’t been able to eat in days. Maybe it’s time we get some help.”

“Are you feeling better yet?” “No. :( ”

“I’m begging you to drive calmly or I’ll throw up before we even reach the doctor.”

It's absolutely crazy how distressed I can get when reading the news about the of suffering real people, or just thinking about the many, many inequalities of the world. It's enough to make me have a break down if I experience too much of it lol. But in fiction, in whump especially, I have complete control. I am the whumper and the whumpee and the caretaker. I am this triality of torturer, tortured and cared for. I think it soothes my need to fix everything in this world of ours because I have this sad little whumpee in my arms that I can break with many torture methods (that are real and have been experienced by real people, the emotions there often having been experienced by myself) and then piece back together until everything is okay again. I'm not sensitive to fiction, almost any of it depending on my mental state, because I know it is a controlled enviroment. There are trigger warnings for the stories and I know whether there is going to be main character death at the end. It's comfortable and comforting, and I'm very very happy I am able to do it in a supportive enviroment.

hi, i’d love to hear your thoughts about touchstarved whumpees!

mmmm touchstarved whumpees make the best whumpees in my opinion- perhaps they've experienced some sort of trauma in their past which has led them to alienate themselves from people, or perhaps they've always wanted love but have just never found it. either way, seeing them melt into the arms of a caretaker at last is just *chefs kiss*

as a sickfic enjoyer, I also have to point out the incredible scenario which is a touchstarved whumpee who is usually too scared to ask for physical contact being so sick that they curl into caretaker's side or seek their warmth out.

or, perhaps, their fever is so high that even the feeling of caretaker pressing a damp cloth to their forehead is so gentle it makes them sob

when it comes to recovering whumpees, I also love the non-sickfic unconscious reaching out for caretaker, usually when whumpee is asleep and doesn't even realise what they're doing. it's a small step on the road, but it means that whumpee is getting better, and even if they won't admit it yet, they need human contact more than ever.

Whumpee waking up absolutely drenched in sweat after having a string of nightmares based on their abuse.

Even though it's been a couple of years since everything had happened. Even though they know the dreams aren't real. But in their sleep they feel so much like recalling specific locked away memories of things they'd been through that they'd forgotten. Despite knowing they weren't actual memories of specific events and their mind has cruelly decided to make their subconscious experience new but similar events. Despite the source of the nightmares no longer being able to hurt them.

Confused, shaking and distressed in bed having woken up way earlier than they were meant to.

(MEGA Bonus points if whumpee has someone there to comfort them.)

Last nigh I was really thinking hard about characters being injured on top of being sick...especially if nobody knew they were sick in the first place. So you can imagine the worry when whoever tending to their wounds finds they're running a fever, assuming it means infection has set in....only to find out they've just got the flu ON TOP of whatever hurts they have
