I want to clarify something kind of important because this kinda used to be my field. The concept that people express and feel love in different ways, and that this might lead to misunderstandings, IS something with scientific merit. The idea that there are just five and we know what they are is NOT. The idea that people have a primary love language is NOT.
In science, we have a saying. All models are wrong, but some are useful. That’s how I see the love languages framework. It is inherently flawed, but some of its concepts are useful. Communicate with your partner what makes you feel loved and understand what makes them feel loved. Understand how your partner shows love. There is immense value in that. But don’t over-index on which one of the five you are. That part doesn’t matter.

For almost a whole year and half I have been living in Gaza, where wardestruction and chaos spread everywhere in Gaza.
My home and my university were completely destroyed .
I am currently in Deir El Balah after I have displaced from my city Gaza , trying to save money to rebuild home to live in a safe place with my family. My father is an old man who lost his work and my mom also lost her work. I need you to support me and my family to build our life again.
Because of the war, it has become impossible to provide money to live, buy food, clean and drinkable water, and education here. This money will be used to provide what the war has destroyed for us, and also to provide a place to stay, especially since we are now approaching the winter season, where we need winter clothes, repair the damage to the house, and provide what protects us from the cold and hunger of winter.
Gaza has become a place full of destruction and is no longer suitable for any opportunity here. Diseases have spread in the Gaza Strip, especially those skin diseases for which there is no treatment due to the war. The water here has also become polluted water and has spread, and there is not enough food for everyone here.
I created this campaign to ask for help and support from you. As a human being who lived an entire year and half under the flames of war, destruction, and tragedies, I am addressing you and asking you for help, to help me get a chance to survive war, death, and hunger with my family, and to start from scratch. A new journey of living and recovering from those traumas and painful memories that we experienced in the war. So we stayed in the Gaza Strip under the genocide to live in difficult conditions and complete our studies with the least available means. Before the war began, I was at the beginning of the clinical stage and the beginning of my work on patients, but the war came and destroyed all my dreams, as I lost my university and my dental tools, which cost my father more than $1,000, and I lost my future. But now I am trying to return again in order to complete the number of study hours and graduate. Therefore, I need your help to complete what remains, as there is only very little left to graduate and go out to work and help patients.
This money will also help me to cover our living expenses and buy food in Gaza. Buying food and groceries in Gaza is something we cannot afford every day because of the high prices, and there is no opportunity to work here. The money will also be used to buy available cooking gas, wood and firewood which will also be used to provide fires for cooking and also to keep warm from the cold at night in the coming days. Also I want to build my own clinic after graduation.
I hope you will hear my voice and help me get a chance to evacuate from here, and a chance to evacuate from Gaza if we can .

I want to reiterate this addition, because it's something that's been bothering me a lot about this discussion: death of the author is a tool of literary analysis. It means that you are putting aside authorial intent in your analysis. So saying "you can't apply death of the author to J. K. Rowling" is very wrong. You can and should apply death of the author to Harry Potter, otherwise we would not be able to discuss all the racism, misogyny, antisemitism, transmisogyny, orientalism and classism baked into the text, since 1) she, the author, would never admit to reproducing these biases in her text intentionally and 2) since she would not admit intent, an analysis that prioritized authorial intent wouldn't be able even consider these issues, since it would have to recognise them as unintentional, subconscious biases, and therefore, according to the authorial intent criteria, dismiss them altogether. This is why death of the author is so instrumental to literary analysis. It allows us to stop arguing endlessly about what the author wanted to do with a text, and focus on what the text actually achieved. And in the realm of an author's biases, it allows us to criticize, firmly. Because if you say, "Well, J. K. Rowling didn't mean for the goblin bankers to be antisemitic caricatures," I can say, death of the author; her intent is irrelevant. The goblin bankers are antisemitic caricatures.
What death of the author theory isn't, is your permission slip to buy Harry Potter merch and make fandom content promoting it without sparing a single though to the trans people, and especially trans women, that you are helping fund the disenfranchisement of in the process. And it definitely isn't, as too many people have come to use it since it got attached to Rowling's name, its opposite: a reader's permission, no, right, no, imperative to interact with any text they like completely uncritically. That, I would more aptly call death of the reader.

It's kind of fucked up how the standard of what counts as sexual harassment is monumentally higher for trans women than it is for anyone else in a lot of cases.
it feels like some people just do not see trans women as people capable of experiencing sexual harm, until you get into the most undeniable forms of sexual violence, like penetrative rape or threats of it. it depends on the social context, of course, but it feels like a lot of people people subconsciously see trans women as either perpetually sexually available fuckdolls or mindless predators holding back an animalistic urge to penetrate (or both.)

A lot of rhetoric from right wing people these days is saying that “white children shouldn’t be made to feel guilty” or whatever.
It’s not really about avoiding guilt though. It’s about erasing history.
I don’t actually think we should feel guilty for the actions of our ancestors. Here’s the thing though. You inherit things from your ancestors. You inherit wealth, and you inherit debt. You can inherit obligations and mistakes.
I am a white person. I didn’t create the racist system in my country, but I did inherit it. There’s no reason for me to feel guilty for inheriting it, but I do have an obligation to deal with what I have inherited.
Black Americans, for example, have inherited generational poverty from the systems my ancestors participated in whether anybody involved realized it or not. I have a responsibility to be like hey what can I do here to deal with this problem I inherited? Reparations? Using some wealth I get from this racist system to help black organizations? Being active in anti-racist politics?
That’s just one small example. Not ever possible thing this could apply to.
I don’t participate in anti-racism out of guilt. I do it because I inherited a debt. I inherited a problem I need to deal with because if a father won’t pay off a debt then his son must do it.
When people talk about guilt in right wing circles they’re not talking about guilt. They’re talking about trying to get out of their inherited debt. To pull off the same social tax evasion strategy as their fathers. To make more suffering to pass on to even more generations of people. To make BIPOC sit in a mess that was made for them a few generations longer.
I don’t think we should stand for that. I also don’t think we should feel guilty for the sins of our fathers. So your ancestors sucked. Okay. What the hell are you gonna do about it?
I agree with you but this goes against the whole "actually you dont owe anybody ANYTHING" and "holding the door open for your neighbor is emotional labor" type rhetoric i see
“You don’t owe anybody anything” is a phrase that’s often taken too literally I think. It was originally for like protecting yourself socially from people that are asking too much of you. Not about like. Avoiding actual obligations and not having basic human decency.
