I think what makes Grima so loathsome to me is that he encapsulates so much human evil, that is felt both on individual and global levels.

He exploits an elderly man living with infirmities, he isolates and sexually grooms a young woman, leaving her near suicidal, he's complicit in atrocities that have devastating consequences for his country and the world at large, in return for favours and rewards.

Grima is the evil you find in schools, in hospitals, in offices and in care-homes and prisons and family homes, where one individual has some measure of power over another and exploits it for their gain.

He's the evil in the boardroom and the government that abuses, exploits and murders billions of people, because for him there's an advantage for doing so. He's the evil that destroys the planet because there's a profit in it for him.

The fact on occasion he shows some remorse, he shows some sign of guilt at what he has done, shows that he isn't "pure evil". His nature did not force him down that path. He made those choices. His evil wasn't in his soul but in his choices.

He isn't a concept of evil, he isn't a mythical being that has no capacity for good, that symbolises evil as a concept. He is evil in the fact of it.

He's the evil you see when you look at the world around you and see all the manmade suffering out there.
