I promise there will be serious art this month, I just think this is funny. But this is setting the tone that I’m probably doing these prompts wrong, but whatever! Just appreciate the magnet family posting for the month!
my actual vampire hot take is that if you're going to be a 'vegetarian' vampire (a vampire that only drinks the blood of animals) you MUST have hunter education. i'm so sick of people being like oh well predator animals are mean and scary because they kill cute 'harmless' animals like NO they're crucial for the environment and if you're going to hunt animals for blood you still need to stick to regular people hunting guidelines and only hunt things that are in season and abide by your areas bag limits
vampire that did a detailed study about whether vampires can get prion diseases and concluded they can't and preferentially hunts animals with chronic wasting disease. and then incinerates the corpses.

we all know that peter parker is autistic but it’s nice to know in spider-noir that ben reilly is autistic too. this leads me to the conclusion that every spider-man ever is autistic
also we have GOT to collectively come to terms with the fact that me or any other stranger online disliking or even making fun of something you like is not saying “no fun allowed” “no one can ever enjoy this” you have simply got to grow a spine and be able to like the shit you like. you don’t even have to defend it! like 90% of the media i really enjoy is divisive and half my friends actively hate it. i really don’t give a fuck though because i like it. you can write whatever you want! you’re allowed! even if it’s MY least favorite genre or style of writing and i have active distaste for it!
let's talk about historical accuracies that I noticed.
Telephones! Hell yeah. Ben has a newer model than Joseph because of course! Even if Ben hasn't been getting jobs for months he's still in a job that overall pays more and he's GOOD at what he does. (Not to talk about the obvious racial pay inequality)
Joseph uses one that was far more common in the early 1900s to 1910! That's OLD by then. Ben has one that's average, (thus expensive), typical rotatory.
Now. Something far more interesting.
Nail polish! 💅✨
I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this:
You see??? Half-moons, clean edge nails! Even if it first appeared in the 20s, this design was super popular in 1930 especially! Many theorize it was so chipping wouldn't be as noticeable, which makes sense!
It's trendy and practical at the same time which makes sense for a character like Vera Addison! She doesn't come from money nor socializes with the upper class of society, naturally, she is using what Hollywood stars use! Not to say it also saves money on nail polish itself, which might've been an instinct at that point. She's the newest money there is and styles herself like so
And we see Janet using the same design! See!? Popular. It's a very practical design as I said.
Quick detour about Mrs. Addison and her coat: at this point, even the fur in women's clothes were taxed! At the same time, Vogue said fur tells “the kind of woman you are and the kind of life you lead”. So hey, look! She got a fur coat! It's so slightly matted yet silly, uneven, tapered, in other words, EXPENSIVE
On the other hand... (Pun intended)
We see Cat having fully painted nails.
She doesn't have to save on nail polish! Nope. She appeals to another echelon entirely. She's not a person as much as she's a doll, entertainment– this is what her appearance says about her.
Her hair is always neatly pinned. Perfect. Always. Using a cig holder so ash doesn't fall on her clothing or stain her gloves/fingers. It tells a completely different story.
I also loved noticing how we don't see the ladies using their hairs down! We see the history so perfectly in this lady who has less than three minutes of screen
Hat hooked to her hair, the updo curls pinned and sprayed into perfection. The jacket shoulders, the ornament buttons! High arched dramatic eyebrows, smoky eyeshadows and powdery makeup!!
I just loved having that much realism. It really pulled you into the era and that's because I am not a historian at all! I'm sure it has its far amount of inaccuracies including those made to appeal to the modern viewer! But it's still.... So yummy
It's Matt Reeves' Batman, James Gunn's Superman and sooon Supergirl, it's Sony's Itsv/atsv, it's X-Men '97, and now it's Spider-Noir dude we're so BACK WE'RE SO BACK DUDE 🔥🔥🔥🔥 I HAVE HOPE OFFICIALLY
I kept holding back after so many frustrations with media but now we're SO BACK ITS OFFICIAL
Nicholas Cage did such a good job, I knew he had it in him he's so underestimated as a serious actor but he's so good people don't understand that to be a comedian you have to have mastered all the others emotions and lord the whole SHOW was incredible in terms of historical accuracies
I started Spider Noir last night and I gotta say I am loving the middle-aged man of it all. Nicholas Cage doesn't get any three-point landings- he spider-swings his way out of falling off a sky scraper and lands flat on his back. He's hanging from the bottom of the bridge by one palm because that is all the flexibility he has to offer. He breaks a hole in the dry wall with the most measured sledge swings I've ever seen because otherwise he might hurt his back.
Sometimes your webslinger hangs up his mask for five years and finds out the flexibility was NOT part of the super power package
People who claim that Quaritch & Varang isn't a real romance... It is. The actors talk about it as such. Even Quaritch is surprised by it. They're literally the dark version of Jake & Neytiri. They literally said that Quaritch form an unlikely bond with Varang, and also said that Varang find a Kindred Spirit in Quaritch. Please, stop believing that villains can't form couples who genuinely love each other. A little complexity and it's like your brain will fry. Villains in love and villain couples in love have always existed in movies.
I played the demo for Zero Parades: Dead Spies and I have opinions about it ☝️
So here's a ramble with spoilers of both games!
ZA/UM will never ever ever outrun what the they with the original writers of Disco Elysium
But the creatives behind Zero Paredes are very clearly having a blast! I played the demo twice and tried to do a normal run versus a batshit run
Manyyyy things here are using the same systems of Disco Elysium, and it kind assumes you have played DE, doesn't really introduce you to some mechanics. The whole isometric view, eh? Skill points, skill checks, dialogue trees, dialogue-heavy
On the other hand, the way you go through dialogue is delightfully different. Your skill checks can be influenced not only by your passive state but you can actively opt to use exerted your abilities. If you don't take into consideration the context, you WILL be set back, make CASCADE lose a whole skill, even if you favorably advanced the dialogue. While with Harry you have to worry about only two stats that can ocassionally kill you, CASCADE can die from anxiety (relatable)
The order in which you do stuff is far more reactive, volatile really. And it felt like you could fail rolls more easily, it doesn't hold your hand at all. It has QTEs, too!
Plus you're in this shit on your own, no Kim Kitsugari on your side. The political climate makes you lethally anxious, you're not searching for the murderer of a hanged man while bickering with a high off meth kid. Instead, you're in active threat of death.
CASCADE has more memories than Harry, far more. And at the same time, all those said memories are fuzzy with trauma and spy brainwashing.
I'd say Zero Parades is similar in, mainly, mechanics and structure. As in, general plot structure. "Amnesiac detective/spy investigativing a murder/assassination". See? Kind similar. Both have an overwhelming amount of side quests and stuff to look and do
The demo is a bit frustrating because you start a lot and doesn't finish nearly enough. But, for example, NPCs don't collaborate at all when compared to DE. Where you could convince people of Ravechol through AUTHORITY (the fact you're a cop), and where Harry DuBois could work through making anyone talk, eventually, here in Portofiro people are more paranoid so CASCADE, and you as the player, has to read between the lines more
And the farther you go through the plot, more you realize how screwed you are. Your neck is at risk. While Disco Elysium turned into the inner content of Harry, filtering everything through his liquor-blurred retinas, Zero Parades's air is denser, heavier, harder to breath. As if you're trying to breath through a wet mask. Both of them have different vibes which become vibratingly stark against each other.
Ravechol has a beautiful brilliance, a smudged, latent hope. It is part of a sunken, failed system, where something else is taking root through the cracks of post-war, post-revolution, and it's frail and weak but it's THERE and it's important, it changes everything, even what you can't save, even you live in failed system. Here lays what one person can do to change everything else. Where Portofiro is not! Here people have already gone through the end and come to the other side. And turns out that after the fire, ice holds. A cold war where you stand on the weaker link. It's a scratched lottery ticket and the disappointed and how people survive while going through the worst historical moment, y'know??
It tries a lot, the writing is insecure. There's depth missing. It's not provocative. But I wouldn't say it's a bad game. I'd say this is what happens when you get some creatives and chews them through corpo bullshit, when who's making decisions is already famous for stealing. You can't come back from that, really. It's a living, marionette thing wearing the necrosing skin of a Magnus Opus.
The point is: it's NOT Disco Elysium. And I feel... Fine about it. The game is fun. It's not that deep. Buy it on sale or pirate it, yknow
