My advice to new UNIC students
#MyUNICStory
Sharifa Khier, Pre-Master’s
When I first arrived in Northampton I had mixed emotions which is only natural when you are about to embark on one of the most important experiences in your life. For the best part, I was happy because I knew I was lucky to have this opportunity and I wanted to make the most of it. My advice to any new students would be never worry about getting nervous and keep reminding yourself of why you are here. You have chosen to come to the UK to enjoy yourself and prepare yourself for a bright future.
Having a positive attitude is something that I see as being very important to your wellbeing. Thinking in a positive way will help you to feel more confident and attract really great friends.
If you are worried about feeling homesick then remember you are not alone. Even if you are miles away from family, technology and the internet can make it feel as though they are right next to you. I call home everyday and I even ask their opinion on a lot of big decisions I have to make here. The UNIC staff are always there to support you if you do feel homesick or you can talk to your new friends who also understand what you are going through.
I love travelling and visiting new places so the UK has many nice cities for me to visit. Northampton is so central that it is easy to get to a number of the UKs top attractions. You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to travel from Northampton, just book a train or bus ticket, and you’re off. In one sentence Northampton is a mini London. It is convenient to get around, has everything you need as a student and is full of friendly people. By being smaller than London it is a lot easier to get to know too.
There is a lot of things I love about UNIC. One of them is how at home you feel and you really have fun whilst getting educated at the same time. Also, I love how we get treated the same regardless of where we are from or who we are. We are all one big UNIC family.
I have now finished my course at UNIC but if I could go back and have the experience again I wouldn’t change a thing. I would do it all again exactly the same because it was more than amazing! So if you are coming to UNIC this semester then you are in for the most incredible journey, good luck and I hope to see you around campus!
some great advice here :)
