Hello! when I initially made this blog, I wasn't sure whether or not I was going to stick around, but it's been a year so I guess it's about time that I made an introduction post.
You can call me alec (unparalleled-(alec)rity, get it?) and idrc about what pronouns you use, but I will be using she/her to refer to myself, so feel free to use those.
This is a WOE.BEGONE blog. There might be some other stuff on here, but more posts will be about w.bg than won't.
Ask me anything you'd like in my ask box, but be warned that I'm not amazing at answering them in a timely manner. This is tragic for me, since I love getting asks.
Do you ever think about any Woe Begone characters as animals outside of the bear/dog/lop dynamics? Those are the more textually present from what I know (you seem like you know more though so if there's other characters that are textually connected to other animals do let me know :O) but I'm curious if there's any other animals that could be applied representing characters you/others have thought of. Really love your art

yes i do! not to the extent i think about mikes stuff, thats sosososo much the focus for me eep. but theres also a LOT of stuff i have considered for the fun of it but. i have a specific structure in my head i gotta explain first. theres 3 questions i ask myself about characters and how they are represented by animals or related to animal symbology etc. more under readmore to save ppl scrolling the w.bg tag
what would their fursona be*
what animal would they BE**
what themeatic animal do they/should they have***
*this is a little less literal than what this question presents in some cases. a lot of characters wouldnt make a fursona! its about what animal they would willingly represent themselves with
**this is the most variable/weird one imo. but like some characters would just be an animal if they were an animal regardless of other symbology going on. you can relate personality traits and behaviour to animals in a lot of ways and thats part of what i like sbout this question
***this is in some cases based on whatever symbolism does exist in canon, where an animal is associated, and is often more about a character's role in the larger plot, and aesthetics, its a bit detached if that makes sense?
so, as an example, for mike walters generally, i feel this would be 1. bear in the early seasons, but increasingly dog, 2. dog, and 3. bear (there is a big thematic element to how dogs r associated with him but bear is definitely like. more of a symbol?)
as for other characters, there's honestly quite a few little eeensy weensy character animal moments. the first that comes to mind is edgar, and his "panther" nickname. i think this works well as both his fursona and a themeatic animal (thinking especially of 101 and mike saying like oh i think i saw a panther. like we as an audience have this dramatic irony because of the way the nickname and image is used there!) but im honestly not entirely sure if its what he would BE. its hard to say when not every character is as obvious about it as mike woof woof walters. (i draw him as a snow leopard specifically in my furry art, but mostly for cute reasons, which fals under themeatic animal) additionally, early on in the series, mike assigns marissa a fursona mike compares marissa to an owl, but even tho he cites personality traits, i think its way closer to a themeatic animal than a fursona or what she would be? in terms of the other two, shes p aligned with big cats in my mind but id have to choose one/ask a marissa expert. eagle is interesting, cause i feel all 3 are rhe same. he would represent himself as an eagle. he would be an eagle. its his themeatic animal! ryan also interesting not so much for source material reasons (he says in his first (nonvoiced) appearance that he's "less a grey hat than a zebra" but its like. idk thats barely about the animal. you could change it to another black n white thing and the meaning wouldnt change. but its a themeatic animal i guess barely) but becayse i have such a clear idea of what fursona he would have. a crocodile. and not to sound insane but if he has a fursona in like a more literal sense he'd so have like a sexy (as in fitting conventionally attracitve + furry ideals of what that is) crocodile fursona. idk where this comes from its just the truth i glean from his characterization. maybe he would BE a crocodile too? unsure! i think its fairly fitting :°}. troy is a ginger cat to me, in my head it works for sorta silly reasons but i can see it as a themeatic animal (ginger cats known for their stupidness) and i feel like high energy cat works well for his personality, including the more sinister moments? but, he is the one character in woe.begone thats probably a furry (for now) and ive seen a buncha fun stuff floated for it. an idea i put forth is a very generic blue wolf fursona (if you know what im talking about yk what im talking abt! if i opened barq rn id see at least 3 pfps of this), an idea @/solipsistful put forth in the server is him being a primagen which i can also see and enjoy a lot, im pretty sure ive seen ppl suggest sparkledog(not necessarily a dog but that aesthetic) for him too which is fun!
uh. i have more to say but wlso i dont its just little pieces. charlies nickname/themeatic animal is a bluebird. slys nickname/themeatic animal is badger. i like drawing ty as a coyote but im . wiggles my paw. kn that. hunter has lion as a codename one time. chance is a deer to me bcus @/froget-me-nots hiughrs.t i feel like anne would have a hedgehog fursona inexplicably. mikes r acrually compared to s lot of animals in addition to dogs, the first animal he actually compares himself to is a gazelle, hes compared to a weasel, a cat at times im oretty sure but that might just be dylan in commentary than smth others do in canon, hes also compared to a shaduke which is funny, inventing a new animal and mike gets compared to it .and. uhm. OH. nobody
nobody is interesting cause hes a mike iteration and so he gains some of the themeatic bearness from them but not any of the dogness. he also has fox symbolism going on, which i think is definitely a themeatic animal and also quite likely a fursona for him too but like. as for what animal he would be its sort of just ◼️. like not that i havent considered it its like theres a distinct lack there to me in a way thats like. beyond humanity. i think its bcus of the mikes dogness and him distinctly not a mikeness!!!
yeah 👍okay this is hard to wrap up im sure theres other little moments of character animal comparisons and i sooo welcome others to weigh in and ANON ID LIKE TO HESR YOUR THOUGHTS TOO this was a wonderful ask to recieve and let me actually coherently word this questions concept snf put forth a buncha ideas ive had more scatteredly. hope it gave u some insight and id love to talk at even more lengt about this stuff lmao
