Thing are never really normal in the House of Mysteries. Wouldnโt live up to its name if it were. Aside from the fairly normal demonic visits and the magical artifacts tucked within these walls, the houseโs otherworldliness also lies with its inhabitants.
Most first time parents might lay in bed with their six month old, but not like their family. Zatanna smiles at Zachary, who follows the mini golden phoenix flying around his head, and John, who moves his hand in slow, easy circles to move said phoenix. Tiny hands reach up for the bird, just barely falling short of it.
โBe nice to him, John.โ Zatanna teases, fingers trailing through their sonโs dark hair.
โWhereโs the fun in thaโ, luv?โ John asks. With a flick of her wrist, and a few muttered words, a tiny unicorn joining the phoenix. If Zatanna refers to his magic projections asย โsun dustโ for the golden color, then John can only describe hers asย โstar dust.โ What else captures the shifting colors beneath the dark top?
Coos and squeals fill the room as the magicians entertain their son. Zatanna laughs softly, pressing a kiss to Zacharyโs chubby cheek,ย โStop being so cute, tesoro.โ
โZee, I dunno if thaโs possible. I mean, with a mum like ye? Heโll be a heart breaker.โ John teases, offering his free hand to the baby. His heart leaps as the baby grabs one of his fingers, pulling it to his little face. John will never know how he helped make something so pure and innocent. Was he like this once? He must have been.ย
โAnd Iโm sure, with a dad like you, heโll get into plenty of trouble.โ
