As an ex fencer, I had been fencing cis men since I first started. I’ve placed dead last as the only girl in the tournament but I’ve also placed third as the only girl. Biological gender really doesn’t make a difference in a sport like this.

While I understand the portrayal of Ozai as the human embodiment of evil, I love the idea of him occasionally being a good father. So good so that those memories often cloud Azula and Zuko's perception of him. Just imagine the potential. The Gaang start ragging on him, and the fire siblings start defending him without even realizing it.

Sokka: I can't believe your dad ignored you just because you couldn't firebend as well as your sister.

Zuko: Actually, when I first started learning how to use Dao Blades, my father patted me on the back and complimented my versatility in combat, so it wasn't that extreme.

Sokka: But... didn't he say that Azula was born lucky, and you were lucky to be born?

Katara: Your father used you as a weapon. He never even let you become your own person.

Azula: Actually, before I joined the war, back when I was still taking dance classes, he would always come to my recitals. He would even bring flowers.

Me: Wow, the Netflix ATLA was better than what I expected. Indeed, it felt too rushed, probably because they were asked to do only 8 episodes like everything in the platform; but they were still able to capture the feeling of the original, and it was an enjoyable show. Not to mention the effects, those were so well done, especially Zuko fire kicks, I loved those.

Me: Oh... I'm supposed to hate this adaptation.

I dont think alienation is the right word, but theres this very specific feeling where every portrayal of people like you in pop culture is someone who used to be like you, and a significant part of their story is how relieved they are to no longer be like you, and how they only found fulfillment after changing everything about themselves that is like you into something else that is … yeah pretty alienating.

Maybe i want to read a melancholy literary novel about an orthodox jewish woman who stays orthodox. Maybe i want a cozy mystery set in the office of a chabad rebbetzins cat. Maybe i want a faced paced mystery thriller where the forensic scientist still goes home for shabbosim. Maybe being an orthodox jew isnt some horrifying challenge to be overcome and just something people are allowed to be.

We all know the headcannon that Azula slowly lost her hearing due to her excessive lightning bending, but what is infinitely funnier AND tragic is the idea that she gave herself an arrythmia/heart murmur from it.

listen, as much as i love azutara where azula is the taller one, the pure comedy of short azula makes me giggle. i present two scenarios:

1. katara is significantly taller than azula

azula, too lazy to search for a stool, jumping and trying to grab the book she wants in the library: whoever decided to build these shelves so high will face my wrath.

katara, materializing out of the blue: would you like some help?

azula: i am perfectly capable of retrieving my own book, thank you very much.

katara: i know you are, but it would be easier if you just let me-

azula: NO.

(she eventually gives in and lets katara get the book down for her.)

2. katara is BARELY taller than azula (and also a menace)

katara, healing azula after a fight: maybe if you weren’t so short you would have gotten a swollen lip instead of a broken nose…

azula: i am not short!

katara: you really are though.

azula: you are less than an inch taller than me.

katara: i still bet you wish you had that extra height when that guy punched you.

azula, leaning close: you’re insufferable.

katara: insulting me doesn’t change that you’re vertically challenged.

azula: would you shut up?
