1926: Vardon secures the North from the undead

1927: Vardon secures the South from the undead; declared Commander, marries Jeanette

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!! <3333 I hope you guys had wonderful and relaxing time over the holidays. <3

Okay, so I figured that a map would be realy helpful! I was able to do a digital one for ODR but I can’t???? remember??? how I did it or what i used to make it, so I just went ahead and hand drew this one (it’s not exactly what I had in my head, but oh well! it works!) 

So the kind of screwed up oven mitt section is land that was recently arcadian, but has since been taken over by uprya and it has largely cut off the capital of arcadia from their second stronghold. It is accessible by sea and land but both of those take a long time and so it is quickest to access it by cutting across the upryish land (which is where jack and vera come in). This is all I really have so far, as far as where things are but I will probably add more details as things come up. :) 

Also it is approximately the same length of Florida and would about 13 hours to drive from the Northern to the Southern tip.

for her this war is SUPER!!!! PERSONAL!!!!!!

grew up in the wild south and she and her fam stayed there even after they heard about the safety of the new city

was super grateful to xavier vardon for getting things organized enough to wipe out the plague

but she and her family def had a lot of issues with the way he was running things

her dad was seen as kind of an unofficial leader in the south and they sent him and his family north to negotiate with vardon

vardon did NOT take kindly to any of it and even tho they came in peace, he had them all!!! killed!!!!!!

virginia was the only daughter and so he took ~mercy~ on her and let her live and return to the south where she was to tell everyone about what happens if you oppose him!

def did not expect her to return and rally troops against him!!!!!

has been leading the south since she was 19!!!!

was certainly young and inexperienced and had NO idea what she was doing but she had also learned a lot from her father

has proved herself to be super capable!!!!

that being said, there’s a lot of hatred and rage built up inside and she is looking for revenge more than peace

wants to destroy vardon and everything he’s ever made

pretty much wants to wipe him out of existence!!!!! (as well as anyone who follows him)

SUPER prejudice against the north and everything that comes from it

(including its culture and innovations!)

has no intention of ever implementing the many improvements that have come from the north

will tear that great city down brick by brick if she has to!!!!!!!

can def be sort of EXTREME when it comes to northerners!!!!!

has a plan in place for the surviving northerners after the war and honestly it isn’t great

does have a super weak spot for women who have been repressed there, however, and is much more likely to trust them than northern men

also in the south, she’s less about gender equality and more for women being the superior sex

tbh everyone was super! surprised (including herself) when she trusted someone like nathaniel dawson so quickly!!!!

and how he’s quickly risen to being one of her chief advisors!!!!

(none more surprised than herself)

kind of has feelings for him???? isn’t sure where they came from????

intends on keeping their relationship professional at least until the war is over and then seeing how he feels

tends to be sUPER serious (except when she’s alone with her friends and nate)

can be pretty intimidating

does sort of have a temper sometimes

will beat u both physically and mentally

tries to always be logical/rational, but tends to be more impulsive/rash/reckless

witty! smart! can be charming if she wants to be!

but also knows how to give u the stare down and if you aren’t at least a little bit intimidated there’s probably something wrong w/ u

does NOT take well to traitors

once you have crossed her you probably won’t live to tell the tale tbh

was one of the first people to come to the city with her family in 1923 when it was just being built

dreamed of a better life!!!!!!

was orphaned early on, however, and worked a lot of odd jobs trying to support herself

after gwen was married and had her first child with vardon, gwen was able to hire charlotte to help her with the baby

vardon was eager to make his wife happy but he didn’t trust just anyone with the care of his child

he found her suitable but he wanted to make sure that his wife and child would be charlotte’s only priority

she is on call 24/7 and isn’t allowed to marry or have a family of her own until vardon’s daughters have grown

charlotte never thought she would want to get married or have children and so she hastily agreed to all of his conditions

she was happy to have a steady job where she could support herself

and she grew to adore gwen’s daughters as though they were her own

the only trouble? howard prior

she met him working for the commander and they slowly became friends

over the years it developed into something more

despite her promise to vardon, the two of them secretly (and hastily) married

howard had known xavier since they were both young and he had always said that xavier was the closest thing he had ever had to a brother

he knew that he would eventually understand and forgive them both

but he needed to wait until the right moment to say something

they both later admitted that they should have said something to him before they’d married, but howard was still certain that xavier would eventually come around

neither of them counted on howard being kidnapped by the southern rebels, however

charlotte is desperate for any word of him and his sisters

she fears for his life and his safety!!!!

and there’s no one she feels she can turn to!!!!

keeping a lot of emotions on the inside!!!! it isn’t easy!!!

she’s also fearing for her own safety

she’s afraid that she might be pregnant and she doesn’t know what to do if vardon should find out before howard returns

doesn’t??? know??? what??? vardon would do??? if he found out

isn’t sure if it would help or hurt to tell him who the father is

hopes she isn’t pregnant and is just being paranoid

hates feeling so!!! helpless!!!!!!!

it is a miracle that philip survived this long

honestly he owes it mostly to his brother and mother who were both much more cut out for this life than he was 

ironically they didn’t make it but philip did 

he made it to the city and was adopted when he was 14 by a recently wealthy old woman who remembered what life was like before the outbreak

he learned from her side about things that most people had forgotten about and considered trivial anymore

he learned about music and art and literature and he immersed himself in it

now that the undead are no longer a threat and the city is growing and thriving, he’s one of the most sought after artists/writers alive

always!!!!! inspired!!!!!! to create something new!!!!

doodles on napkins and writes notes on the corners of newspapers 

has created a lot of great works but his main problem definitely is finishing things

obsessed with the creative process and often finds that he loses interest in one project in favor of another 

his apartment is cOVERED in half finished masterpieces 

speaking of his apartment, it is kind of a disaster 

has probably never once made his bed

it isn’t dirty but it is certainly an unorganized mess 

at least to the outsider, philip actually knows where everything is 

not great with managing his finances 

is generally compensated well for his work but never gives himself a budget and just spends his money whenever he sees something he wants

honestly one of the strongest motivators for finishing things has been his lack of funds 

has developed a taste for an elegant and extravagant lifestyle that he really can’t afford 

super outgoing and charming

but honestly he can be kind of a drama queen

definitely LIVES for the drama and the angst 

has been secretly in love with gwendolyn vardon since he met her ten years ago after he was commissioned to paint a portrait of vardon and his wives

knows they will never be!

is pretty sure she wouldn’t even consider him that way even if she wasn’t married

but she’s his muse for pretty much everything tbh!!!

has created a lot of v dramatic pieces of art thanks to his feelings for her

likes doing things like walking the graveyards && the oldest parts of the city at night so he can brood???

feels every emotion so deeply!!!!!

very passionate in his likes and dislikes

not great at hiding it so if he likes you, know you it, and if he hates you, YOU KNOW IT 

witty and clever

has definitely written gwen a lot of long and passionate love letters that he has hidden underneath his floorboards

knows it would mean his death if anyone should find them

tbh part of him finds the danger kind of exciting

definitely plays with fire when it comes to gwen and has def said some things to her that if vardon had overheard, he’d already be dead

came to the city as an orphaned kid

lived for a few years in a boy’s home until he was ten and deemed old enough to work

got a job doing whatever he could

eventually got one that stuck working in a factory

ended up choosing poorly and working for a greedy, power hungry man who took advantage of orphans and the poor

thought it would be a good job b/c in addition to his wages, he was provided food and lodging

but the food was meager (and often terrible) and housing was a single bunk in a cramped room full of dozens of other’s

also ren found out quickly that he wasn’t cut out for working in the factory

frequently had trouble breathing and the long shifts were often too much for him 

was quiet and reserved and often an easy target for the other workers who wanted more food than what they were given 

when he befriended will, however, that all stopped since will stood up for him

will was his first real best friend ever!!!!

definitely thought of him more like an older bro when he was young and idolized him so much

knew then (as he does now) that he would probably be dead if it wasn’t for him

they both had had enough of working and living in those conditions and eventually they constructed a plan and escaped to the south

soon they joined with virginia and have been there ever since

ren has never been a fighter but he’s super! intelligent!!! 

he wanted to become a doctor and has self taught himself pretty much everything he knows from old medical books and journals that were found in an abandoned hospital 

definitely has A LOT to learn yet, but he knows the most about the medical field of anyone in the southern resistance 

takes his position very seriously and is constantly trying to learn as much as he can, as fast as he can

he knows that he could be called upon to save a life w/o any notice

has also documented everything he’s ever found out and has started a small, but very informative, medical library of his own 

doesn’t always say much but a great listener

great at gathering all of the information and then giving unbiased advice

a peacemaker!!!!

great at mediating and smoothing over arguments

super empathetic and great at seeing things from other povs

not great at standing up for himself but will always stand up for others

has a great sense of humor!!!!! 

loves to laugh!!! 

laughs at himself a lot tbh :) 

can be kind of awkward sometimes

doesn’t always speak his mind b/c he tends to like to avoid confrontation if he can

crusty and anti-social, especially compared to vardon

has seen vardon do terrible things and tbh has helped him do them

grew up in a world where it was everyman for himself and he’s still of that mentality

he has a few people who he really cares about while the rest are easily disposed of

tbh finds most people completely insufferable

orphaned when he was four and has been vardon’s bff ever since

was a skilled warrior and thief but no where near as impressive as his friend

vardon took him under his wing

his early alliance with vardon def saved his life

he wouldn’t have made it out there on his own and he knows it

has always had a thing for beatrice crandon

when she was twenty-two, he asked her to for her hand, but she turned him down

he didn’t renew his attentions after that, but he still carried a torch for her and never looked at another woman (even though his friend was constantly trying to throw others in his way and telling him that he was sure that beatrice could be persuaded to say yes, if he used the right method)

victor, however, wasn’t interested in procuring wives in the same way as his friend

a few years ago, she suddenly seemed to have a new interest in him

he was happy for it, even if he thought that she was only interested in being his friend

but when he thought she might see him as more than that, he asked her once again and this time she said yes

tbh never really thought he deserved her

once they were married, he tried to be the sort of man who did!

still has a LONG way to go tbh but started to think about more people than just himself and his inner circle

has a lot of fond memories from their courtship/early marriage!

she made him so happy!

he even smiled and (gasp!) laughed now and again

recently found out that she was only married to him b/c she’s a southern spy!

victor: idk what i expected

so!!!! confused!!!! emotionally!!!!!!

realized he was still in love with her (despite everything!) and didn’t want anything bad to happen to her

probably would have stepped in to save her, somehow, if her sister didn’t beat him to it

part of him does want to see her suffer for what she’s done

straight up admitted to him that all of it was a lie! and that she she literally found him repulsive!!!

there’s a tiny part of him that’s wondering if maybe he’s on the wrong side

grew up in the north

her father was one of Xavier Vardon’s chief advisors

even from an early age, bea wasn’t as taken in by the commander’s skills as most people around her were

was unphased by the grand and luxurious new life her father’s connections had given her

when she heard that there were others in the south who opposed him, she wanted to join them

was headstrong and rebellious as a girl

was NOT afraid to speak her opinion (especially when she disagreed with vardon himself)

her father HATED it

would often beat her in attempts to make her more submissive but that only made her worse

when she was sixteen, she ran away from home

she made it to the south where she eventually found the southerners

she told them she wanted to help

it took them a long while b/f they trusted her, given who she was, but eventually they did

they told her that she would serve them best if she could gain information and send it back to them

she agreed and when she returned home, months later, she told her father that she had been kidnapped and seen how horrible the southerners really were!!!

from that moment on, she was, outwardly, the perfect daughter and loyal citizen but she was only gaining information from her father (who was completely taken in by her new act and suddenly his least favorite daughter became his favorite)

told her younger sisters everything and has their full support

she straight up forbade them from doing anything too dangerous to help, but would often employ them to lie about her whereabouts

(lina listened, but veronica did not #whoops)

even though she involved them as little as possible, still feared for her their safety

wanted to make plans to get them to the south, somehow, without putting any suspicions on her that she was any less loyal to the north

a few years ago her father passed away and with him, her connections

so she then agreed to marry victor crandon, vandon’s right hand, who had always shown an interest in her

always HATED him but pretended to have eventually fallen for his ~charms~ to get the ring on her finger

sort of developed some real feelings for him though after they were married????

watched as she was able to make him a slightly better person???

actually had some good times together when it was just the two of them away from everything else!

would NEVER admit to anyone (herself included) that this was the case though

a month ago she was finally exposed

has NO idea how she was finally caught????

keeps going over and over with everything in her head but isn’t sure what her mistake was???

has no idea that jack lewis is a double agent and that he gave her up

would be dead by now but was saved by the deal her sister made with the commander

she’s now under house arrest and followed everywhere she goes

hasn’t been harmed but suspects it will only be a matter of time b/f the commander goes back on his promise

wants nothing more than to see lina returned to the rare and once happy life she had known before she gave it up to save her

will do anything to make that happen, even if it costs her her own life
