it's a shame that the trope of a character who looks 12 but is actually 300 years old is usually just used for ick fanservice because on a paper i think the psychology of a person stuck in permanent childhood has a lot of interesting story potential. unfortunately i would not trust a fandom with that character with a 100ft pole.

It's a fun line to walk- I don't take the absurd or magical elements of Twin Peaks as either entirely literal, or as unconnected to the story. Magic is used in stories to express that which cannot or will not be discussed openly. How to talk about incest when you cannot talk about incest? How to portray dissociation, alienation, dehumanization, isolation, when they are states that are defined by separation, an inability to be understood by others, to be understood by yourself? It's only more effective when the magic, the absurd, are addressed and questioned but only partway in the story; how each character reacts to the unreal tells you a great deal about who they are, and how they react to what else is perceived as unreal.

The fear that love is not enough is very real. Love is the only thing protecting us from the abyss awaiting us. Love is the most important thing we have, but simply having that love is not enough if you do not do anything with it. Laura was loved. Bobby loved her, James loved her, Donna loved her, Her mother loved her. Even her father loved her. But, did that thought of love help her? No. Because these people did not do anything with that love they felt for her. A feeling is not enough. We need to show our love to the people we want to protect. We have to show them all the understanding and compassion we hold for them. If we don't, how will they know we love them?

We cannot help the ones with love just by thinking of them. Love is everything we have. We have to cherish that. Even if it's still not enough...

I'd never be the person I am today with Twin Peaks. It completely changed my brain chemistry. Im just so thankful that this amazing creation found its way to me, I'll never appreciate anything more.
