hi I don't know if this post is gonna go viral (I hope so) but I have a question: the first and only citizen in my country just headed off to the sumud flotilla ship to deliver goods to palestinians a few days ago. she acknowledged the possible dangers so she updated her trip frequently and also prepared a video in case she got kidnapped by israel. in the video, she emphasised the importance of the government and solicited help from our government. our country is explicitly neutral (although the official newspaper did criticise genocide) and the government has warned citizens not to go to politically dangerous areas. so the thing is there has been a heated debate whether the government HAS the responsibility to save her, when no official site confirmed she was kidnapped. i researched a bit and it said every country (apart from the UK? sorry if it's wrong) should protect their citizens on the flotilla ship.

so may I know how your government respond to this and is it justifiable for her to be protected?

anyways I hope all people on the flotilla ship could come back to their countries peacefully 🤞

just finished re-binge watching this drama again. i cried to the extent that I couldn't even breathe thank you

personally I don't feel this is a mere drama, it's one of the best homosexual shows I've seen, and it encompasses several philosophical topics ranging from education, family to relationships. the character development and the relationships between characters are well-depicted too

ohh and 100/10 for the chemistry

i'm the homosexual kid in my family but my mother never doubts me and she doubts that my sister is a lesbian

my mother is kinda sad (?) because she thought my sister is a lesbian

my sister's studying master degree right now and my mom just kind of make jokes about when she is having a boyfriend or getting married. yet my sister is a free kid and she won't get married unless she finds the one

it's quite funny that both my sister and i have different ways to rebel against my asian mother's traditionals. my sister is a free spirit and she never puts having a standard family her top priority; she prefers freedom, studying, experiencing. i am as gay as hell, i watch gay dramas, i ship gay people, i speak for queer rights online, i read philosophy and don't believe in any virtue; yet my mom never recognises my homosexual tendency because i can't look more straight than now

it's not funny when my sister wants to liberates my mom's beliefs yet my mom thinks that's a rebel and she literally cried because she thought my sister is a lesbian. mom never really wants to change, she just wants to live up to what society thinks. but even if so WHO already considered homosexuality not a disease then why are there people like this?

i'm kinda depressed, thanks. btw i just took my damn english exam and she required me to practice for another upcoming exams instead of telling me to take a rest (hell nah i'm watching gay dramas bye mom)

I have finished reading the Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus and it was an interesting book. I recognize why it needed all the build up to describe different ways people can become absurd (the happiest person).

However, I found it concerning that a Frenchman living in conquered Algeria was telling me I’m at my happiest while working and not thinking about the future.

Despite that disclaimer, the book had good advice that could applied generally about focusing on the rock rather than other things to be happiest. I think I need to get off instagram because it keeps giving me rocks to worry about.

same opinion here. it seems that he liberated himself from the meaninglessness of life and found out who he was in his life and what he wanted to be

yet he didn't liberate himself from patriarchy and imperialism/colonisation. he knew that the world suffers and we shouldn't contribute to its dread, but there are sufferings obscured by his privilege of being white and a man

of course nobody is perfect and he is still one of my favourite philosophers, but whenever thinking of a humanist suffering from patriarchal/imperialist ideologies my heart broke to pieces

speaking of which this is exactly my first reaction reading these lines. however, Camus is a writer, thus he knows how to express the greatest empathy and the most human aspect of the character; that an absurdist who doesn't have an ultimate belief feels the deepest connection of the soul is a human thing

I read Camus' Nobel speech (for my advanced reading exercise) and absurdism before reading any of his chef-d'oevre and I just immediately thought that his absurdism is such a humanism because he thought a true artist does not scorn anything but to understand and not limit oneself to their community, and an artist definitely never works in a vacuum.

Also discovered Sartre's Existentialism is a Humanism. Although it is considered the work did not perfectly reflect his ideology, humanism is what comes first to my mind when mentioning existentialism/absurdism.

it's cool that more and more people are becoming aware of one major fallacy in the "brains finish developing at 25" myth - the fact that the study that started the myth stopped measuring at 25 - but there are more reasons not to believe in the idea of children's brains as structurally deficient!

my personal favourite is the fact that we actually know children and adults use different regions of their brains to accomplish the same tasks:

turns out having less growth in your frontal lobe doesn't matter because you can just. do that shit somewhere else.

the human brain is a marvel we are nowhere close to unravelling. the little we do know does not in any way support the idea that there is such a thing as a "fully developed" brain.
