My Trek ReExamined poster project is complete (for now). I set out to rewatch the franchise from beginning to end before Discovery (and short treks, and Strange New Worlds and Starlet Academy) came along and create a poster for each episode (or movie) and I have finished it. Here are all of my Trek posters in one place. Perhaps I shall take do more with the newer series in the future, but for now I need a breather. Nemesis is a decent action flick with some hints of deeper thought, but the direction lacks an understanding of the deeper underpinnings of what makes Star Trek breathe. It was a disappointing end for a generation, but not a terrible one. It just needed a couple more passes.

For my poster what better imagery to use than the Scimitar staring down the Enterprise in the Bassen Rift?

Voyager's finale "Endgame" (S07E22, Stardate 54973.4) is not quite that. They use one last massive reset button which wipes out half the episode, and create a whole mess of time travel paradox questions in the process. Some of the small character moments are great, but where is the real reunion with Earth?

To complete my Voyager poster series, I went with a travel poster featuring Voyager returning to San Francisco, surrounded by fireworks.

"Renaissance Man" (S07E21, Stardate 54890.7) is a fun romp that has a well-spun yarn of intrigue thrown in. Though the EMH is really overpowered in this episode, it works well within the plot.

My first idea for my poster didn't work out, but I do still like my second piece, showcasing all of the disguises that The Doctor used in his mission.

"Homestead" (S07E20, Stardate 54868.6) is a touching sendoff for Neelix, wrapped up in a pretty straightforward "Fight for our home" story. Bonus points for the interaction Neelix and Tuvok share where Tuvok lets his guard down just a little bit.

On the good side "Natural Law" (S07E19, Stardate 54827.7) raises Prime Directive debate issues. Seven is forced to slow down and see life from a new perspective and Tom gets his piloting skills scrutinized. But overall the episode suffers from being forgettable, with a rushed 5th act that should bave been 2

Natural Law has a lot going for it but I settled on the mimicry of Chakotay's tattoo that the natives adopted for my episode poster.

"Friendship One" (S07E18, Stardate 54775.4) takes a hard look at the Prime Directive and why it is so important. We get to see just how destructive interfering in another culture can be. Tom gets a chance to really shine and Janeway is put through the wringer. R.I.P. Kerry

The people of the planet that Friendship One destroyed built weapons to defend themselves, and they then attempted to turn those weapons on Voyager. They pair as an appropriate antithesis with the recording that Friendship One used as a greeting.

"Author, Author" (S07E17, Stardate 54732.3) is a pale shadow of a far superior episode, but at least it does not try to surpass it. And therein lies the problem. It falls flat in the execution and does not come down definitively on a conclusion. The holonovel is amusing, but is The Doctor a person?

Combining traditional storytelling (book) with 24th century (isolinear chip) is what got The Doctor into a mess. I chose to make that the central focus of my episode poster

"Q2" (S07E16, Stardate 54704.5) is a practice in diminishing returns for Q's appearances on Voyager. There just isn't much meat left on the bone of this story. It feels like we have seen every beat in this story before and know exactly how it will end, and it offers nothing new in the world of Trek.

Q2 is all about the wacky Q and his offspring, so let's make him front and center with the episode title on my episode poster.

The Seven we see in "Human Error" (S07E15, Stardate Unknown) is the most human we have ever seen her and it hurts that there is a failsafe built in to keep her from realizing what she achieved in the holodeck. Kudos to Jeri on a fine performance and to the score for emphasizing the fine work.

There were so many different things I could have used for my episode poster but I settled on Seven and Chakotay's date, complete with Seven's no longer needed Borg implants.

"Workforce, part II" (S07E14, Stardate 54622.4) largely sticks the landing, though there is some letdown in the doctor being a one-dimensional capitalistic thug. The ending felt rushed and I would have liked to see more of the crew regaining their lives.

Workforce, part II is all about getting the crew back to a deserted Voyager. Just switch the "Help Wanted" sign from the planet to the ship.

"Workforce" (S07E13, Stardate 54584.3) is a fun diversion from the journey home. Issues of identity are set up to be explored in the conclusion, and there are a lot of core identity pieces that remain despite the brainwashing. It's good to see the return of the ECH, too.

Workforce featured a world looking to ever increase its labor force, so what better way to depict that in my episode poster than a massive "Help Wanted" sign?

"The Void" (S07E12, Stardate 54553.4) is an opportunity for Janeway and crew to put the principals pf the Federation to the test and see they still work. The tension is real and the self-doubt convincing. And Fantome is a great addition to the Trek alien menagerie.

Voyager had a hard time seeing in the void so I placed the ship in the middle of The Void and made them blend in with the inky darkness…

"Prophecy" (S07E11, Stardate 54518.2) is a fun romp, but not much beyond that. There are a lot of tired Klingon clichés thrown around and the main cast aside from Philips seem to sleepwalk through most of the material. Sadly, it is mostly forgettable.

"Repentance" (S07E10, Stardate 54474.6) raises a lot of good, solid Trek questions in its exploration of capital punishment. It dips its toe into the prison system, but the real focus is on atonement for past behavior. And Jeri knocks it out of the park in a nuanced performance.

I used a favorite quote of Seven’s for my episode poster, focusing on her and Iko being two sides of the same coin in her mind.

"Lineage" (S07E09, Stardate 54452.6) has its ups and downs but ultimately turns in a decent story of and adult child of divorce attempting to prevent the possibility of what happened to her continuing onto her own children. Roxanne delivers a strong performance and Tom is an excellent husband.

Tom and B'Elanna's baby's forehead ridges are the central focus of my episode poster.

"Shattered" (S07E10, Stardate UNKNOWN) is a love letter to Voyager's past, exploring a lot of major and minor points in the show's history. Chakotay serving as guide to Janeway's inexperience is a nice change of pace and we get a well paced conclusion that sadly wipes everything away. Still a fun romp.
