As far as I can tell it's primary functions is that instead of a few people owning and running businesses and the production of things for there own benefit it's owned by the people who work there, so all profit goes to the emoyees and there is no ever increasing profit. There is also no private property as in land, personal belonging (house, car, phone, toothbrush, etc) are yours and cannot be taken away. There can also be a centrally planned economy were the government decides what to produce, how much, and we're it goes.

This is as I understand it cuz I'm still learning too but I Hope this helps anyways!
