by Jori Epstein, 4:29 p.m. Director John Ford loved his daughter, but hated his son, Dan, and it was mutual, as "the relationship between an incredibly difficult father and an incredibly difficult son who can't escape him." When writing the book, Frankel spoke with Dan, who "like some alcoholics, just couldn't accept" anyone who liked his father. Frankel also met descendants of character Cynthia Ann Parker and became especially interested in this storyline through visiting the annual Comanche reunion each June. Such a different lecture than Lemony Snicket's, but Frankel's bastion of knowledge is a treat for listeners. Update 4:45 p.m. Professor Frankel reintroduced me to his wife before he headed off to sign books. I crossed the hall to where Pete Rose had spoken in hopes of catching the end, but Rose's talk ended early. Luckily, I managed to catch Linda and the gang in time! She said Pete was fantastic, and that their friendship dates back to high school in Austin and classes at UT. Who knows, maybe one day we'll be back at the festival to hear J310 classmates speak!
