I BET Y'ALL THOUGHT I ABANDONED MY FIC, DIDN'T Y'ALL?

Well I DID. But now I am SICK and have nothing to do all day but SIT ON MY LAPTOP and WRITE. So today, I finally released one of the meatiest chapters I've ever written: The Provisioner's Memory. My fic, "Overheard" is a fic set in the Fallout 4 universe. It is a collection of gossip, stories, terminal entries, holotapes, and now memories, telling the story of Blue and his empire. There are a ton of inside jokes in my fanfiction. They're so inside, that I am the only one that can spot them.

So, I finally released Chapter 15, and I am very proud of it. I've actually had the bulk of this drafted for a couple of weeks now, but I have been busy doing anything but writing/editing. And there are a couple reasons for that.

Reason #1: I work.

I have a full-time job that has very little to do with writing. That's just the bulk of where my time goes. After an 8.5 hour day and a workout, I just don't wanna fucking write. I wanna do anything BUT use my brain tbh. And if I'm honest, I haven't been hating work lately. I've been put to work on projects I find mildly interesting, so it makes going to work fun sometimes. I guess I'm not mad about it.

Reason #2: I made a pillow.

I saw a really cute pillow at T.J. Maxx a couple of weeks ago and thought, "I can make that". So, I did. The last few weekends, I have been working on this:

Isn't it cute? I think I want to make another one with nicer fabric, stuffed a little better, and maybe even bigger! But yeah, the bulk of this took me about 16 hours total over the course of two weekends. Between this, cooking, cleaning, working out, and watching Drag Race/ Fallout, there is very little time for fanfic writing/editing.

Reason #3: Yoga

I've always been a yogi, but I've really ramped up my practice over the past few months. Back in November, I started going to classes at least 3 times a week. I was actually planning on starting a yoga teacher course this semester (thus me ramping up my practice again), but because of the class schedule it wasn't going to be feasible. But I've really enjoyed going back to yoga class. I hadn't realized how much I missed it.

Also, part of my New Years Resolution is to try new experiences. Part of that is exploring new yoga studios in the area. On top of the 3 classes I've been taking at my usual studio, I've been doing an extra class at various studios in the area at least once a week or so. It's been a lot of fun!

Reason #4: I can feel my Fallout fixation waning.

This is a weird one, but I notice my brain has phases. For a couple months, Fallout will be the only media I am interested in interacting with. I'll play Fallout, write fanfiction about Fallout, rewatch the Fallout show, listen to Fallout lore on YouTube, etc. Quite frankly, I hit a stride with "Overheard" for the past few months, but I can feel it ending. So, I am probably going to slow down on the writing for the next few months.

That's not to say I won't work on it at all, but I certainly won't be using all my free time to work on it like I have been doing. And that's okay!

Something that never happens just happened...

I released a chapter of my fic yesterday, and today I just finished a very good looking draft of the next chapter. I think I'm gonna polish it up tonight. I'm gonna collect those sweet sweet "recently updated" hits for a few days, but I'll probably have Chapter 12 out by Christmas! Super exciting! I think the story will be complete before the end of January, but don't hold me to it!

Two Different Fallout 4 Fanfictions

Hello out there! I have been working on two different fanfictions that take place in the universe of Fallout 4.

The first is Fallout: Genesis. Fallout: Genesis follows my OC, Gladys. Gladys worked for Vault Tec before the bombs dropped as a technical writer. She emerged from Vault 111, and the story follows her adventure from there. The story is quite the slow burn. I wanted to emphasize how out-of-place a person with her skillset survives in this post-apocalyptic world, and her journey from a technical writer to a force to be reckoned with. I don't want to spoil too much, but she has not been to Sanctuary Hills yet. So, her story isn't the typical Minutemen/saving Shaun/defeating the Institute story line. I have 12 chapters out with over 50,000 words in total. If that sounds interesting to you, then check it out HERE.

The second is "Overheard" or "The Overheard Series". This is my much shorter fanfiction, with the chapters averaging around 500 words each. This story is a tribute to my love of settlement building. Each chapter takes the form of dialog between characters, as they discuss a Vault-Dweller up North, called "Blue". According to rumors, Blue has been establishing some very successful settlements up North, as well as annexing some smaller already-existing settlements. Nobody really knows what he's up to or what his deal is. This was actually my first attempt at writing fanfiction, and I am now revising the story and uploading new chapters. I have 8 chapters out already with a total word count of about 4,000 words. If that sounds interesting to y'all, check it out HERE.

Hello out there, future me or otherwise

So...sometimes I don't want to write.

It's TRUE. Sometimes, I just don't want to write. Sometimes I have a good excuse, but a lot of times I would rather just do something other than write.

So that leads to me picking up and putting down this project every once in a while. And I think I'm done beating myself up over that. This isn't a source of income for me, and my stories don't attract very many eyes anyways. So, this has turned into a case of me whipping myself for not following rules I put on myself. From now on, I'm just gonna update the story as I want to. And I'm just gonna use this blog to post about updates and occasionally journal about writing. And I'm gonna only post to AO3 (sorry, guy who asked me to post elsewhere). It's just more work than I want to do. I'll consider posting other places once I finish a story.

Hello out there, future me or otherwise

Damn, it's been a while since I've updated Fallout: Genesis. If you've been paying attention, you'll know that I have not only been working on Chapter 11, but also going through each chapter and heavily editing them. This is really the first creative writing project I've done since college, so I feel like my writing has dramatically improved since I first posted Chapter 1. I also just feel like my voice and point of view are a lot stronger. I feel like the edits were necessary. Good news is, I am currently editing the completed first draft of Chapter 11 and am pretty much done with the revisions of previous chapters. However, I have also made the decision that I need an extra chapter in my first act. I need expand some timelines and give some context for Chapter 11. So I'm inserting a chapter into the first act to do just that. So in reality, I'll be releasing two new chapters, some of the chapters will be renumbered, and Chapter 11 will actually be Chapter 12...hopefully that makes sense. This whole thing really makes me question whether in the future I want to release stories chapter by chapter. In reality, I expect this to happen again in about 10 chapters. On the one hand, releasing a story all at once will get me readership a lot faster cuz I can post it as a completed work. Also, I can address inconsistencies and change things a lot easier cuz none of the readers will have read anything. On the other hand, posting chapters is a good "goal" for me and keeps me somewhat consistent. I'm also not sure how much I mind going back and editing previous chapters. It kinda feels like some people are on a writing journey alongside me. Anyways, idk. I'm a long way off from writing another story (though I have some ideas). Anyways, my spouse is going to be gone for work for a couple weeks, so I think that will free up a lot of my time on the weekends for writing. I told them while they were gone, I'm just gonna be in goblin mode and not leave the house. I'm hoping that perhaps I can get everything out in the next couple of weeks. Hello out there, future me or otherwise

Hey y'all, I haven't abandoned my fic yet lol. I'm just slowly chipping away at the edits. I'm on chapter 6 right now. My plan is to go through all of the chapters I have right now and make some pretty significant edits, then making a pass through each chapter one more time to see if I've missed anything. I think this will be worth it. I already like my revised chapter 1 a million times more than the chapter 1 I have out right now. I don't really have an estimate on when I will be done. I got a promotion at work, so that's been keeping me busy. I've also been ramping up my gym regimen (I have summer booty shorts I need to fill out). So this fic has really fell on the back burner. But that's okay; this is an easy project to put down and pick back up. Anyways, I just wanted to get the message out there to anybody who might click on my tumblr from AO3. I'm alive and still working on the fic. But it's going to be a while before I get out chapter 11. I think it'll be well worth it though! Why am I making these edits? Reading through my story I have found a LOT of inconsistencies that I simply can't ignore. Instances where Gladys knows something in one chapter and doesn't know it in another. Gladys being reckless in one chapter and calculated in another. Also, my writing is just improving in general, which makes my earlier chapters cringey for me to read. So, I've decided to edit them to benefit the story as a whole. Anyways, that's my update. I'm not gonna post the link to my story, as I don't really want new readers right now. Hello out there, future me or otherwise

I know I threatened this in the past, but it is happening. I have been reading my story and there are just way too many plot holes and inconsistencies that are standing out to me; some of them HUGE. As well as just bad writing in general. So, I think 10 chapters is a good place to stop and make some edits to my story thus far. I think I'm going to do it like this: I'm going to spend this next month editing the 10 chapters I have so far. Then I'm going to post them on my platforms. At least with AO3, any chapter I make revisions to I am going to put the date, revision number, and a very general list of what I changed (Grammar, parts rewritten for consistency, parts rewritten for clarification). But I'm not going to write exactly what I changed, mostly because I don't want to spoil the story in the notes. I think this is the best way to go about it. The edits need to happen, but I want to be transparent for anybody who has been reading the story up to this point.

I guess this is the kind of thing to watch out for when you are releasing one chapter at a time. Sorry to anybody who is upset by this, though I have a feeling that most people won't be.
