there's something about this world setup where everyone is just fully absorbed into this technology (like it's very obvious commentary off the bat), and that tech is integrated into everything - it monitors your sleep, your food intake, you need it to get into school, it tells the cafeteria what your lunch order is (and you can't dispute it if the order is wrong, because everyone is so indoctrinated into this culture of use that they trust the technology over the person), it even has access to your bank account

and then you have our protagonist, Tomoro, who lives in a flooded shithole at the edge of the sparklingly clean city, who doesn't fit in, and for whom the technology doesn't work properly - he glitches these devices out fairly frequently (enough to know that the store will have to replace it). he lives in a world that relies on a system that doesn't work for him and has essentially left him behind, while he actively wonders what's wrong with him, and after his only lifeline dies, we know based on the trailers that he ends up falling in with a gang of bounty hunters because he has nowhere else he can go

as a thematic hook that's a really strong start

I’m just saying if Daniel Radcliffe, the literal protagonist of the Harry Potter franchise since the age of ten years old, was able to disavow JK Rowling and move on from the HP universe then actually what the fuck is anyone else’s excuse.
