Literally every default face template set on earth that I've ever seen be like: what if every single sim looked the exact same as each other. and also they're all white
Can't have Asian features or Black features or Indigenous features because they're too #ugly and the Sims 2 community memes on it constantly about how #gross and #ugly they are and how that's why we need defaults that are just 25 clones of the same white guy with a button nose and round eyes. Oh and elf and alien I guess. I GUESS.
"but what if i want my sims to look UNIQUE instead of looking like Maxis face template sim #3874358" you know you can make unique looking sims with the maxis templates right. you know you can just Do that, right. it's not hard. for fuck's sake.
also bold take but i don't think 28 templates with the same vague shape of fucking button noses and round eyes are "unique"
Isbrealiomcaife's All Around the World face templates have been around for over 20 years. 8 years ago @ivy-sims uploaded custom versions of the default faces in the Japanese, Korean, and Chinese installs of the game
I understand what you're saying and we do need more. I'm not a face template collector so there are probably a lot more that I don't know about, it's a niche area of CC creating so it's hard to find people who do it. But here's some links for anyone who's looking for more variety
I agree with @creesims recs! I also think these by Pooklet are quite unique. Deedee has made them non default so you can have them together with Maxis' if you like, it adds variety if you let your game spawn townies, NPCs, etc. I agree that some sets out there are a bit same face-y, but no one's forcing you to download them 🤷🏾♀️
CC creators may not work for us, however they are creating for a diverse community. That should be reflected in the face templates.
Actually my point exactly was that many CC creators (including my(retired)self) are not creating for the community at all but for themselves. They are generously sharing a set of face templates they've probably made for their own game. You can of course dislike their CC, but you can't tell them what kind of CC they should be making instead.
also, are you guys aware that you can combine face templates from different sets? you do not have to use a full set by anyone.
i get the point that was being made here but at the same time literally every single person's game has same face syndrome to some extent. mixing and matching templates from different people is going to curb that.
yes, it's annoying having to pick and choose instead of just sticking a whole set in there and calling it a day but i feel like if you're going to criticize others for being too lazy to MAKE different faces, you can also be criticized for being too lazy to choose different faces (which arguably is easier and less time consuming that making them from scratch)
I get what you're saying, but I think the core point is the most important part of the initial posts. Like yes, of course CC makers can make whatever content they want, and that doesn't have to be inclusive content. Anyone downloading CC can get modular with how they use it, and that does create a more dynamic experience. However, I don't think that addresses the frustration about how the face template situation feels like an extension of racism that has been part of The Sims experience. The Sims franchise base games have ALWAYS catered toward white people so they've never had to ask for that same inclusion from CC (and if they did they would absolutely have it at least with regard to race. Not body type, and certainly not gender.). So when people are creating content continuously and still not being inclusive (or doing about as much as inclusion as EA did in 2002) that can feel really disappointing. I think this is so frustrating to me specifically because, tonally, it reads like CC operates the same way for everyone and it just doesn't. Playing the game as a POC always requires seven extra hoops to jump through, whether it's that you can't use most of the portraits in game for Black households cause they just weren't included in the base game, or it's wanting more than 10 hairstyles TS2 actually made that reflects our hair type. That dependency on cc isn't just the privilege of wanting a certain aesthetic. It's the desire to have even a similar amount of content that white simmers had when they bought the game twenty years ago. Even in the cc downloading space there's always some extra added weirdness. Just a few years ago people were begging cc creators to use brown/black sims on the occasion that they decided to make afro textured hair or braids. We still can't get away from the slave/master language in CC. The uglacies and the beautifying legacy challenges were blatantly featurist against the few POC-coded face templates that existed in the game. And when we talk about it, even when there are helpful suggestions in the comment, people can treat that desire for equality like entitlement. I get that you're saying 'do the work to make it the game that you want,' but I just feel like that skips over systemic issues and points the finger at the individual instead. Back to the templates: I also suggest Pooklet's Templates! Shoukeir has some I like as well. I also really enjoy Microscotch's face templates these days as they feel really different from each other.
