If you're writing 18th century dialogue, this website lets you search words and phrases to double-check whether they were in use & meant what you intend. It doesn't include every period-accurate use of a word/phrase, but it certainly helped me separate genuine 18th century grammar from the vague tangle of 💬old-fashioned fancy-speak💬 I've internalized from TV and video games.

People who say Nick Van Owen is the real villain in the second Jurassic Park movie for causing InGen's goons' deaths via intentional sabotage are just like those Avatar fans who unironically treat Jake Sully like a backstabbing traitor while constantly defending and justifying the RDA, you can't convince me otherwise

#say what you will about his methods of sabotage but Nick will never ever be the main villain when Ludlow is RIGHT THERE in the SAME MOVIE #the guys Ludlow brought with him are basically poachers there to drag all these giant endangered animals to the mainland #for no other purpose than using them to entertain the masses and fill their pockets with cash #it's one thing to bring animals to a center where they can be rehabilitated or something but there were no good intentions from InGen #InGen have consistently been the bad guys and the guy people on that island with Ludlow were not exactly innocent bystanders #you just can't make me ever feel bad for ingen (or for poachers for that matter)#then there's the fact that EVERYONE in this movie (except ian malcom & eddie) (rip bc i miss him) makes intensely stupid decisions #EVERYONE'S decisions put together are what culminates in the bad stuff that happens throughout it is never ever just Nick #Sarah for example makes decisions that make zero sense for a character we are told is an expert to be making #fr why did she go to a KNOWN dangerous island alone and constantly get WAY TOO CLOSE to animals that could eat her #she doesn't have the skills steve irwin had so why even try #anyway jokes aside ingen defenders and rda defenders are basically the same people #almost forgot this but he's also the only reason anyone got off the island alive at all #i came across a specific video of a guy talking about this & trying to legitimately say nick is the real villain of the movie #it felt so so so so forced #was saying hammond should have tried to get the animals back from ingen through a legal route by taking them to court or something like tha #sir it was implied that all the court stuff was done through and there was nothing else hammond could do legally #i thought it was quite clear when i saw this as a kid that nick was the last resort #maybe i'm taking this a little seriously & maybe nick was one of my fave characters in this movie as a kid but fr it's so bizarre to me #obligatory ''earth first! sucks'' because IRL they are no better than peta i am aware of that #but let's be for real if nick is a villain for being in earth first then roland is a bad person for being a trophy hunter too #if roland were played by a different actor i doubt people would praise him as much as they do trust me i like pete postlethwaite too #both of their questionable affiliations aside roland & nick are great characters & i truly don't think either of them are evil OR villanous #anyway #this is way too many tags #mypost #my post

Wanting to vent about how annoying and fake you find a YouTuber but you have only ever seen like one criticism of them ever and their fans ride him like their lives depend on it, so you just don't say anything because you just don't have the patience or the energy to risk one of his fans yelling at you because his constant pandering comes off as genuine to them

one of the worst things about fandom is when people headcanon a certain character as gay and suddenly that becomes the only valid, practically unofficial-official canon reading of that character's sexuality. gay. just gay. character has shown romantic or sexual desire for women? it's comphet, don't worry, he's still gay. character isn't interested in sex much at all? it's because he hasn't fucked a man, obviously. character has lots of women friends? they are the hags to his fag, he's gay, why are you even trying. and it all seems like a very Transformative and Woke way to read a character until you step back and realize how much biphobia, acephobia, misogyny, and transphobia are baked into the adamant refusal to accept The Character as anything other than gay. it's horrendous, actually. but you will get shot in the streets for this.
