Vibes for April 2026: Everything that she is
My birthday night out, plus breakfast and the art gallery the next morning.
Favourite drink was the Toblerone. Surprising since rich, sweet drinks usually aren't up my alley!
Whilst we may still have a little less than a month left of winter/summer, where I live has already decided we are in the depths of summer (somebody save me). So, I wanted to get a head start on my spring reading list!
If you're looking for a way to narrow down your TBR, or for reading ideas this Spring/Autumn, I've found the reading bingo is a fantastic way to get out of slumps! If you participate, please let me know what you decided to read and whether or not you'd recommend them!
Australian white supremacist holding that anti-immigration rally is like. So stupid it’s hilarious. They’re just jealous people are getting to go there voluntarily after their ancestors were sent to an open air debtors prison by the British government. “CRIMINALS ARE COMING HERE!!!!!” since 1788. 1770 if you count Cook.

A riddle for you, What act has been practiced since man first walked, yet is made new every time it is done?
(Hades II Design Spoiler)
I prefer Chaos’s new design, which I’m seeing is an unpopular opinion.
And look, I basically ALWAYS prefer the more avant-garde uniquely styled looks, so I was surprised, but I think just because it’s more humanized doesn’t mean it’s less stylistic.
The detail is insane and I think it incorporates the neon rainbow colors into the rest of the design better than the first one which mainly used the halo. The globe as an earring, the haloed flower on the ponytail, the hollow space peaking through the neck of the jacket, the pocket watch, the amalgamation on the shoulders, the rippled pond wing, and ofc them holding their OWN HEAD from the last design with the fetus coming out the mouth and the spine still connected.
Even just the juxtaposition of the embodiment of Chaos being in an orderly suit, and it does make sense because they are an organized chaos.
Tartt’s The Secret History and Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby: the romanticization formula

Something that burns me alive every time I hear it is “If you don’t have kids, who will take care of you when you’re old?” A child is not a retirement plan. A child is not an advanced directive or a nursing home or a home health aid. A child is not a reliable caregiver you have to groom into shape for 40 years. Hell, you might be a caregiver to your child for the rest of your life. Even if they’re born healthy and happy, they could get hit by a car and have massive brain damage at any point in their life. Do not have a kid solely so you can depend on them. That is a fucking evil reason to have kids.
If someone cares about me only if they are bound and obligated to me, legally (partner) and morally (child), then babe, I am seriously doing something wrong in my relationships.
It's insane that many live by this philosophy and bring a child into the world solely so they don't have to suffer in their old age and have the audacity to wave the same logic to guilt trip their kids into marriages and childbirths. Every kid is assigned a job and responsibilities even before they are conceived and god forbid they don't live up to them.

had a fascinating english class that resulted in the notes header “the forcefeminization of victor frankenstein”
what the people want, the people get
you see
my professor’s take is that mary shelley is feminizing victor throughout the novel, as a way of flipping gender roles and putting a male character through female experiences.
evidence as explained:
victor is creating life. he is putting his health at risk (spends two years with little sleep or socialization) to bring life forth into this world
his illness after he is shocked by the creature coming to life is akin to both ‘hysteria’ and postpartum depression
he pretty much swoons, let’s be honest
henry clerval, a man who has been characterized as manly and heroic, has to chase after damsel-in-distress victor and care for him as he convalesces
afterward, he hides what he did and went through, for fear that others will label him crazy and emotional and not believe him. sound familiar?
Victor in general is more emotional than the other characters and is constantly tempering his reactions to not be seen as irrational
the book does not otherwise have central female characters
Also, Shelley’s mother died in childbirth. It’s interesting, then, that Shelley presents the creation of life as something horrific and damaging. She parallels Victor with her mother.
in conclusion, Frankenstein (1818) by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley is one of the first examples of mpreg in English literature
I was not expecting that last line.
THIS IS THE KIND OF ESSAY WE NEED MORE OF

I find few things more enjoyable than getting lost in music in the city.
Not socialist in a “I won’t have to work” type of way but socialist in a “I’ll still be working but I won’t be worried I won’t make the rent” type of way. In a “billions won’t be hoarded by one person” type of way. In a “janitors, fast-food workers, child care workers, preschool teachers, hotel clerks, personal care and home health aides, and grocery store cashiers, will live comfortably” type of way. In a “the sick and elderly will be cared for” type of way. In a “no child should work” type of way.
In a “disabled people live comfortably even and especially if they can’t work” type of way.
In a "no one has to work themselves to the bone for bare survival" kind of way
Hey there dear! We chatted in the comments a while ago in one of your posts about that one anon asking you if you were a fan or reader of PJO or Greek retellings, and sadly (so sorry bebs) there aren't non-fictionalk stories about penelope and her origins (from what i know researching, her story is often told by the origins of clytemnestra, Leda, Helen and their twin brothers castor and Pollux and a bit in the Odyssey).
So sorry to disappoint you (┬┬﹏┬┬).
BUT, I have found fictional stories about Penelope (some of which I read and enjoyed) that i can recommend, though it's more on retellings than Non-fictional documentary of the character that's all I can provide. 1. Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood: Lovely and quite a unique twists of Penelope and the aftermath of Odysseus's return, my queen Marg's earliest books, and i love her own take of Penelope. 2. The Songs of Penelope: I ADORE THIS, it's a trilogy that focuses on aspects of womenhood in a patriarichal society at the time, which showcases penelope, her maids, and other women of different path trying to survive and get by on Ithaca, it also weaves in other myths such as the illiad and the oresteia AND I CRIED SO HARD ON THE FIRST BOOK, Absolutely adored the second book, and the Third book was such a chef kiss. A unique part of the trilogy that each books are narrated through the eyes of three Goddesses, Hera (1st book), Aphrodite (2nd book), Athena (3rd book).
3. Women of Troy: Closest to a non-fiction it can get, but it focuses on more figures such as Megara, Atlanta, Medea, Ariadne, and Penelope going through their origins, not really penelope centric but closest to it
Hey!!! So happy to be talking to you again! I got so excited when I saw more book recs from you 👀
Ack, it's a shame there aren't non-fictional stories of Penelope's origins, but I see I now have another reason to do further research into the myths of Clytemnestra, Leda and Helen!
Thank you so much for gathering these wonderful recs for me!!! No disappointment at all, this is so amazing, I cannot thank you enough 😭
Ooooh I actually saw The Songs of Penelope when I was researching books surrounding Penelope, and I was on the fence on whether to check it out or not, but I absolutely will now!! And the books being narrated through the eyes of the Goddesses is such an interesting twist?? I cannot wait to read this. And I am ABSOLUTELY adding Penelopiad and Women of Troy to my TBR, I love when authors take characters and add their personal twists to their stories. And ofc, I can never turn down a non-fiction book, and even though Women of Troy isn't Penelope-centric, I've been looking to do more research into Ariadne. Plus, I'm always happy to be learning more about all the female figures of Greek myths.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMPILING THIS LIST FOR ME!!! This absolutely made my night, I appreciate it so much!!! <3
