The racist and transphobic tears being shed over the casting in The Odyssey almost make me want to see it.... almost.
I mean just imagine looking at Lupita Nyong'o and not thinking, "Yeah, that's the most beautiful woman in the world, I'd go to war for that." You must be seriously estranged from beauty to think anything else.
Actually, you are enough. Even if you don’t work. Or study. Or go out. Or have friends. Or have family. You’re enough because you exist and your existence is enough to be enough because you are not a product. You are not a sum of output. You are not a task to complete. But because you are something the universe wanted and put here even if you’ll never understand why. Somewhere in the cosmos your existence makes a difference, even if it’s not the way others existences do.

forget everything anyone has ever told you on the matter the truest marker of adulthood is starting to hear the siren call of high quality kitchenware
to be clear you SHOULD buy that cast iron pan and you SHOULD buy that knife set and you SHOULD buy that fancy rice cooker and you SHOULD buy that novelty mug. high quality kitchenware is always worth it you’re literally gonna be using that almost every day

when I was in high school I had a literature teacher who had a policy of unlimited extra credit. All you had to do was read a book by a notable author (his discretion) and have a little chat with him after school to prove that you read it. No limits, no need for variety (one month I decided I really loved Kurt Vonnegut and just read everything of his I could get my hands on).
Yes, I was tearing through books constantly, and talking to this teacher at least weekly. Because even though I always loved reading as a kid, literature was always a very weak subject for me in terms of a teaching-to-standardized-test school setting (I just do awful on "what color were the curtains" type multiple choice questions. Those details don't stick in my memory THEY JUST DON'T). But that didn't matter for this class. I could just read my way out of any bad test score. I have always had fond memories of how I "fudged" my way through that class and "abused' the extra credit policy.
I was thinking about it again today, and only just now realized that he absolutely tricked me into being well-read, while my teenage self thought I was totally getting away with something. THAT MOTHERFUCKER. I hope he's doing well.

I donno, maybe accepting that people in the past had different ideas about beauty and modesty and different styles and body types they found attractive is a low stakes way to become more accepting of the fact that different cultures have different ideas about beauty or something and that might be a good reason to just show the ridiculous hairstyles and silhouettes so we can stop being so self-centred and sure that there is only one way to be beautiful?
the moth is finished! i think this is the most detailed piece i've ever done.
i want to fill in the back of this vest with more embroidery eventually. i think my original sketches were of wildflowers and stuff that's native to jersey.
Was gone for a couple of weeks and came back to find my Oregon Grape bushes absolutely overflowing with flowers. In a month or two all of these will be edible (although too sour to eat outside of a jam) blue berries. This native plant is one of my favorite early spring pollinators, blooming in time with the dandelion and purple dead nettle that fill the yard.
