Bitch please, don't act like you give a fuck about Arcane...
This is the only ask I’m going to post. Y’all can take your field day somewhere else.
I don’t have to give a fuck about Arcane. If Arcane fucked up bad enough to get his account suspended from Tumblr staff, for the second time in as many months, that is not my circus and not my monkeys. Actually, let me tell you a little something I found out a couple of weeks ago.
Let’s begin with a refresher. Plagiarism is deliberately use another writer’s ideas, creations, images etc without identifying where they came from.
Once upon a time, ArcaneMysteries posted this. (It’s a link to my reblog of it.) This is a public callout post of someone who he alleges “stole his copyrighted content”. Even though Tumblr has a system and procedure for dealing with DMCA violations, Arcane made this post instead. By the way, the only person who can legitimately FILE a DMCA violation is the content creator. You can see, intact, are all of the links of the posts he found. Since the blog has been deleted (no doubt scared off by Arcane instead of by tumblr staff), I thought I might check the web archive for the blog. You can view it yourself HERE, captured on May 3rd 2015.
The archive only shows one post that was stolen from Arcane, it’s the green one at the bottom about the care and storage of tarot decks. Here’s a link to the image I found on Pinterest. (Here is a web archive link of his post on his blog.)
I realized I’d never read his images that closely, and I was particularly amused to find he’s got a typo in that image: “Some people feel obligated to put their cards in special boxes or pouches, but their or no set rules.” Obviously this is some sort of typo. But I found it odd; in the advertising industry we always have someone look over social media before we release it, as a check and balance system, so I thought it quite strange that he published this image with this text. So, imagine my surprise when I found this exact sentence in a post on AeclecticTarot.net’s forum. Here’s actually a direct link to the printable version of that thread (it’s the 3rd post down) with a screenshot of it from a cached Google page, next to Arcane’s graphic. Big red lines and boxes, can’t miss it. He actually copied the next sentence from that Aeclectic Tarot forum post and put it word for word on that document.
So then… I thought… if he copied that sentence word for word… What else would he copy? And I began to google for other sections of that graphic. I won’t tell you all the juicy details, but I’ll link you this post, let you deduce what came first (his graphic or that post?)… and here are a few more screenshots.
And here’s a thread at AeclecticTarot where someone, in February of 2015, thought he stole a spread from them. Arcane makes an appearance, it’s worth reading. Aeclectic, by the way, has had a following since 2000. You’ll note on the first page a user by the name of Gregory making the observation that “lots of posts on that page look a lot like spreads posted on Aeclectic”.
And just for the record - it doesn’t matter if you have a Creative Commons license on your blog. If you deliberately take words from other sources and suggest they are your own by putting your brand on them and NOT crediting the original source, you are plagiarizing. Only the original content creators could report him for DMCA violations. Tumblr shut down a very popular blog with the url Bohemea in 2013 (I believe) when they received 5 copyright infringement complaints in the last 2 years. They gave her the chance to prove herself, and she declined.
So my suspicion is that enough content owners reported Arcane for copyright infringement that he’s getting the same treatment Bohemea got… and the only way that would have happened is if multiple content creators all filed separate DMCA violations with Tumblr, and I think he might only be allowed back if he can prove he originally created that content.
I mean, I see how it would be hard to believe. I myself didn’t ever really look too close at all of his posts to realize that the content was stolen. This is only one post, too! It never occurred to me he would deliberately plagiarize anything, so I never bothered to Google his stuff… until someone told me about that thread on Aeclectic about the time he made that post saying I was a theif. And considering he’s such an *unmatchable* resource and beacon of light to many in the community… with his plagiarized content… obviously someone just has a vendetta against him. Obviously it’s all lies.
The question is, which lie did you fall for? Because, I mean, it would have to be some huge act to fool the people on the tumblr tarot community into anything that couldn’t possibly be true.
