Tarot Tip - Use Playing Cards!
If you're ever caught without your tarot cards and need to do a reading, using playing cards can be a helpful substitute. Modern playing cards and Tarot cards share an origin, with both branching off of older versions of card decks. Although the purposes of the decks may be different, the energy of cards are deeply intertwined with one another.
The emotional cups cards correspond to the suit of hearts, while the pentacles (representing wealth and earth energy) are signified by diamonds. Wands align with clubs, and swords become spades. Rather than having a knight and a page, both cards and meanings are combined in the Jack, while the Fool and the Magician are combined in the Joker.
Of course, this won't be able to give you the same level of insight without the Major Arcana, so getting a tarot deck of your own is highly recommended, but in a pinch using playing cards can be a discreet and fast way to give yourself a reading.
In my practice, the New Moon is a good time to cleanse the home, and reset the energies at the beginning of this new cycle. There’s multiple ways to cleanse, reset, and refresh the energy in your space:
• Sweep your home from back to front with your besom or chosen broom.
• Add Moon Water or Florida Water to your mop bucket.
• Burn mugwort, lavender, and rosemary or other herbs to cleanse with smoke.
• Make offerings to your ancestors, deities, and spirits and petition them to protect your home in the coming month.

Use this spell to help in letting go of any unwanted energies, situations, and connections. You'll need a small pouch, preferably red or brown, a few pieces of paper, and a pen.
On the pieces of paper, write down the things you want to release. As you do, visualize the energy, person, or situation and focus on the feelings they bring up for you. Place each piece of paper inside the small pouch as you whisper, "I thank you, and I release you to make room for something new." If you have small items tied to the energy you want to let go of, place them in the pouch as well.
Find a spot away from your home and bury the pouch where it won't be found. As the seasons change-fall leaves cover it, and winter snows melt over it-they will help the energy return to the earth and be re-purposed.
Take a yellow candle and anoint it with floral oils such as lilac, jasmine, or rose. Sprinkle it with dried lavender and chamomile. If you are having a particularly difficult time, dry the petals of a daffodil and mix that in with the other herbs. Light it for five days to bring healing and vibrant energy to your home or space. This is a powerful candle charm to invoke calm, health, and peace into your life. It can also boost your creativity, soothe relationships, and inspire love!

Tarot Pouch Tip!
Your Tarot pouch is not just a place to store and transport your cards. It is also an energetically charged space that can serve to protect and cleanse your cards. We recommend placing a crystal in your tarot pouch to enhance its use in your practice. Here are some recommendations:
Moon stone - A powerful intuition stone that shimmers in the light. Brings a calming, peaceful energy to readings.
Obsidian - Absorbs negative energies from clients and the environment, helps you stay grounded. Make sure to cleanse the stone at least once a nionth.
Amethyst - Naturally cleanses the deck between readings. A stone that when carried is said to promote wisdom and intuitive insights.
David Lynch was one of the more beautiful, strange souls to grace this Earth.
The Moon is Full again, making it a good time to cast divination, open our intuition, and look ahead for lessons to come in the coming month. Try our new Lunar Tarot spread to discover what mysteries to explore this lunar cycle:
Card 1: What is this Moon illuminating, or revealing, about your life?
Card 2: What is this Moon casting a shadow over this month, or what factors in your life are you unaware of?
Card 3: What needs to be released during the waning Moon?
Card 4: What will manifest in your life during the next waxing Moon?
Card 5: What should you keep in mind for the rest of the lunar cycle?
The Lily and the Rose - Garden of the Tarot
Roses and Lilies appear all over the Rider-Waite deck, often appearing together in the same card. The Magician does his work in a garden of lilies and roses, and the Garden of the Ace of pentacles is blooming with both flowers as well. The two of wands has the symbol of the flowers crossed on the side of his castle, and the students of the Hierophant both wear one of the flowers. The red and white garb of the Hierophant itself is reminiscent of both flowers. What do these flowers mean? Were they an intentional choice on the part of Pamela Coleman Smith, or just a random floral preference? All evidence indicates that these flowers were chosen specifically to indicate a powerful spiritual message. This is the biblical Rose of Sharon, and the Lily of the Valley. This is the Red and White of alchemy. The red Rose represents worldly desire, lust, and will. The Lily represents purity, spiritual truth, and enlightenment. The presence of both in so many cards shows that the two - worldly pleasure and spiritual wisdom - can grow side by side in life. They can support one another, and both are acceptable paths to follow. The desires of the flesh and the aspirations toward enlightenment should balance each other out, and neither should be denied. Let your garden of experience flourish.
Have you ever stopped to consider the meaning of the letters on Smith’s Wheel of Fortune? Perhaps you have read the letters from the top going clockwise - spelling out the word TARO or TAROT. Perhaps you have begun reading from the bottom and seen the word ROTA - Latin for Wheel. As a matter of fact, depending on which letter you begin with, many mystical words can be found
TAROT - the deck of cards
ROTA - the wheel
ORAT - A latin phrase that means "to speak"
TORA - the Torah, which means "The Law of God" or "Divine Law"
ATOR - an abbreviation of the name of the Egyptian mother goddess of love and creation, Hathor.
Taken all together, I translate the hidden meaning of the wheel of fortune as
"The Tarot’s Wheel speaks the Law of Love" or "The Wheel of the Tarot speaks the Laws of the Goddess."
Some ways to cleanse your tarot deck:
Ways to cleanse your tarot cards:
• Put them on the windowsill under the Moon. The Moon rules intuition, psychic vision, and the unconscious mind. The light of the Moon resonates with the deck, infusing it with intuition enhancing energy. Leave them there overnight for best results.
• Cleanse them with herbs. People commonly use smoke from white sage to cleanse their tarot cards, but there’s many alternatives. Mugwort is cleansing and opens intuition. Mixed with lavender can help bring clarity of mind. Rosemary is widely accessible and a powerful cleanser as well, known for enhancing clarity of mind and smelling fabulous.
• Use visualization and breath work. Meditate for a few minutes holding your cards in your lap. Visualize that with each breath you are bringing in more and more light, until you are completely radiant. Then gently exhale over the cards. See the light in your body blowing across the cards, sweeping away all negativity.

The symbol floating between the two characters on the Two of Cups is called the Caduceus. Commonly, it is taken as a symbol of healing and health. In this tarot card the healing takes place for both individuals, as the healthy relationship between the two figures makes room for both parties to experience inner healing. Originally, this symbol was also called the Wand of Hermes. Hermes is the Greek god of communication, being the messenger of the gods. This represents how open communication is the key to any relationship. So next time you pull the two of cups, take note of how you communicate with those you love and ask if you and your partner give each other space for healing.
