Don’t watch it. Do not watch this fucked up mess of a show. Listen, I’ve been working in suicide prevention for almost six years, and I grew up in an area that had epidemics of teen suicides. The area is actually so well known that the show-writers and producers met with leading experts in the area on the ways that the media contributes to youth suicides - and then did almost everything they were warned not to do, even going so far as to actually show the suicide on-screen. Many of the experts that they’ve spoken with are expressing grave disappointment with how the show proceeded despite their advice.

If you’re suicidal, if you’re depressed, if you self-harm, and/or if you have any trauma associated with that, please do not watch this show. It was incredibly irresponsibly handled and puts people in very real danger.

I still think it’s hilarious that the reason nobody ever figures out Superman’s secret identity or where he lives or what he does when he’s not saving the planet, is because he already told them all the Kryptonian stuff that can’t be tied to any of his human friends or family. I guarantee you the in-universe wikipedia article on Superman lists his name as Kal-El and the “personal life” section says that he lives full-time at his private fortress of solitude at the north pole. Nobody in the world looks at Clark Kent and thinks “oh my god, maybe he’s superman!” for the same reason nobody ever starts to suspect that their coworker who looks KINDA like Barack Obama is actually secretly Barack Obama – They know who Barack Obama is and know what he does and they know their coworker Greg is Greg and not Barack Obama. They have no reason to assume Barack Obama secretly moonlights as Greg The IT Guy at their workplace even though they’ve never seen Greg and Obama in the same place. At best, “Greg is secretly Obama” would be a running joke at the office, and the same is true at the Daily Planet. “Kal-El of Krypton, who lives in a CRYSTAL PALACE at the NORTH POLE and whose dayjob is SUPERMAN, sometimes puts on a suit and pretends to be a clumsy reporter and lives in a one-bedroom walkup in Metropolis” is a ridiculous concept to anyone who doesn’t already know it’s true

recently one of my posts about being a trans man and casually interacting with another trans man got about 90,000 notes and the tags and comments are full of ‘too pure for this earth’, ‘i’m a dirty sinner i don’t deserve to read this post’, ‘adorable cute sweet precious boys’ despite the fact that it’s mentioned that i am in college and not a child in the post and you all need to think about how some trans men do not want to be referred to that way and being okay with being referred to that way is pretty much exclusively a young teenager tumblr thing that makes a lot of guys uncomfortable. i’m just a man. none of this is necessary and it’s very performative, but…

along with this infantilizing, with this obsession with the proposed purity of another man and myself just for existing, there’s also dehumanization that comes with it, for example:

somewhere along the post, someone decided it would be a good idea to add, ‘all i can imagine is two eldritch horrors trying to get their voices as horrifying and fucked up as possible’ (not exact quote but that’s the gist of it)…

and someone decided that it would be a good idea to take my experience, wildly change the context and make a FANFIC, on MY OWN POST, of two eldritch MONSTERS upset because their voices didn’t sound ‘as horrific’ as the ‘monsters’ around them, and bonding over it together. nowhere in this fanfiction was being trans mentioned.

this is, quite possibly, the most horrifying thing someone has added to one of my posts and going beyond dehumanizing my experiences as a trans man enjoying my voice getting deeper, but also writing a fanfiction onto the post that changed the context of ‘two trans men finding validation between one another and our voices’ into ‘two monsters are sad they’re not scary enough and bond over trying to be scary together’. i shouldn’t have to explain how horrible that is for me to read, and how horrible it is to see that added on my own post & circulated through hundreds with no criticism.

quite frankly, it’s devastating to see how people talk about and interact with trans men. we are either children who must be protected and are weak and vulnerable and ‘too pure’, or we are fuel for your fanfics that completely strip us of our humanity. i consent to neither and if you think that any of these things are okay to do to a complete stranger, all you’re doing is patting yourself on the back for your performative ally points while making trans men uncomfortable with sharing their experiences and talking about their lives and trying to be happy with themselves. stop it.

I’ve had a break from lifting for about 4 months now due to my circumstances (I’m too chicken to lift in a new environment which I don’t feel secure in). Yes I did lift a few things here and there in this span of four months, but probably less than 20 items I would say. Just a week more and I can’t wait to lift my heart out again. Clothes and make up, come to mama. Can’t wait to do a giant haul.

i saw a post abt the mcelroys and their fandom and since i didnt agree entirely w/ the op and my brain went off on a related tangent im making my own post:

i think the level of scrutiny/boundary crossing/pedestal placing that goes on with people who get overly involved in the lives of minor internet celebrities (who dont have the money to protect themselves from the audience) is really uncomfortable and weird at best and grotesque invasions of privacy at worst. the way people use the same attitudes to talk about/discuss real people as they do fictional characters is unsettling and i think there needs to be a mass call for some empathy in fandoms that involve real people. at the very least the fandom needs to coach themselves on maintaining a respectable distance from the people who work hard to provide them with entertainment, instead of feeling entitled to every single aspect of their being.

Fuck Shoplifters

Today at work I spent two hours doing inventory adjustments for my department. The process is essentially, count the number of a product on the shelf and see if it matches the number the computer says we have, then change the computer number to the correct amount. One or two items missing is normal. Stuff gets miscounted or the wrong barcode gets scanned or maybe the tags fell off and we ring it up as something else. That’s just par for the course. 200+ items is not.

Today alone in just ONE department there was over $1200 of merchandise missing.

I’m going to get my butt chewed out because $1200 is missing from my department and I don’t know where it went. That’s $1200 that my store will have to cover. That’s $1200 that comes out of payroll budget, which is already way too thin. $1200 is almost exactly one months pay for one employee, meaning we will probably have to let someone go, because we are losing this amount on an almost daily basis.

Fuck you and your lame excuses. When you shoplift, it isn’t hurting the corporation. It’s hurting the employees.

When you shoplift it means that one of my coworkers won’t be able to pay her bills this month. It means she won’t be able to afford to eat every day. It means that my coworkers and I will have to find a way to sneak gas money into her purse so that she can get home.

It means that corporate is going to make us tighten security. We will have to purchase more cameras and more alarms and more tags, with money we don’t have, which means hours will get cut even more. It means we will have to participate in shrink prevention programs, like consenting to having our belongings searched before we leave because corporate still insists that most of our shrink is internal.

I can understand if you are stealing food because you’re hungry, or medicine because you’re sick. it’s still wrong, but I understand that and if I saw you stealing food or medicine, I would probably look the other way and pay for it myself.

But you can’t eat cosmetics, ok? You won’t die without lipstick. You won’t suffer because you don’t have Levi jeans. You won’t get sick because you don’t have a wallet & penknife gift set, you’re just being a shitty person.

Enjoy your $12.00 compacts you crudnuggets. I hope it’s worth our jobs.
