BUT THEN. He sleeps in Damen’s arms at Ravenel, and can hardly believe it:

Laurent is surrounded by enemies, has been victimized by those he thought he could trust, and has survived more than one assassination attempt. He’s also plagued by heartache. OF COURSE he has trouble sleeping.

Probably the sweetest and most painful thing about that morning in Ravenel was realizing that Damen made him feel safe enough to relax—probably for the first time in years—and thinking there was no way he could keep him.
