Come to think of it, it really is insane that my entire country is burning alive and literally no one in the rest of the world cares. Thousands of Indians are dying every day from the heat, it's 45+ degrees in multiple areas, the government couldn't give two fucks, we're getting severe warnings and red alerts, and not a soul outside of South Asia is speaking about it because why would you ever care about brown people
please keep talking about how Becky from Maryland doesn't like the rising gas prices. It's clearly the more pressing issue.
USA folks, that is a consistent temperature range hitting 113°. Death Valley temperatures. In Banda, it hovered between 116°-118° (47°-48° C) for a week straight.
This has been happening all month with little to no international media attention. Here are a few organizations you can check out for resources or to support:
ActionAid India
SEEDS India
GlobalGiving
Raise India (Project Tapan)

A white doctor based in Colorado has teamed up with a conservative legal group to sue the online directory, "Find A Black Doctor," for allegedly discriminating against physicians based on... divr.it/T SfSjO
repost by Doll Face @/smoke_nd_pearlz:
In 2012 i was diagnosed with a deadly blood disorder known as TTP. I was in the hospital for a month. A white nurse almost killed me because she thought i was drug seeking. I kept telling her my central line in my groin was hurting& she wouldn't give me any morphine just Tylenol.
I went septic later on that night because of the central line. I went into SVT and had to go to cardiac ICU for a week. I was 18. My TTP flared up again in 2016 and i went to the ER. I told the (white) doctor that i had TTP and that i needed to be admitted. He had my records right in front of him. I was just there 4 years earlier, the same hospital diagnosed me.
He told me that i didn't have TTP...i had ITP. He sent me home with steroids and pain meds. I cried and cried and sat at home all weekend until i could get to my hematologist. I called them and they had me come in immediately. Got labs drawn...my hemoglobin and platelets were VERY low. They did a direct admit: 1 had to get 14 bags of platelets and 3 bags of blood. My hematologist and his NP told me if i would've waited any longer i would've died.
More recently in 2022 i went to a freestanding ED because i thought i had the flu. I was in pain, my blood pressure was elevated, i had a fever. I told the black NP that i have TTP and asked them to do a cbc and ADAMTS13 level if they could. I got pain meds, waited for the (white) doc to come and see me. He told me ny labs were "fine" and that i just had a stomach virus. I didn't believe that so i asked him what my platelet count was. He told me 30k (normal platelet count in non chemo patients are 150k-400k) i almost lost my shit on him.
He went back and further with me for 10 minutes about how i wasn't having a TTP flare up and i told him to call the fucking hospital that I'm usually treated at and find me a bed. He begrudgingly did it. He came back not even 10 minutes later and said that the hospital i usually go to was full (it was around Christmas time) but after the on call hematologist at the level 1 trauma center downtown saw my blood work they wanted me to come in IMMEDIATELY. Hematologist told me if i would've waited any longer i would've been dead before Christmas.
Every time that l've almost died it was either at the hands of a white nurse or doctor. They don't take our pain or complaints seriously! They think we are drug addicts. I literally became a nurse because of this. We need black doctors. That lawsuit is just a bunch of fucking racists who are mad. Fuck them.
another repost of the original by Emmanuel Felton @/emmanuelfelton:
A peer-reviewed study found Black patients matched with Black doctors were 27% less likely to die in the hospital. A separate study found Black residents live longer in counties with more Black primary care physicians. "Find A Black Doctor" exists because the disparities are real
repost of original by Patrick @/PatrickJnmarie:
If white doctors took the complaints of black people, especially black women more serious they wouldn't have to worry about people finding doctors that look like them and who they're more comfortable with

the highest recorded wet bulb temperatures in the world occur in india, jsyk. in odisha, they’ve hit 34.6 degrees celsius. the human survivability limit is 35 degrees celsius but the body faces significant risks, potentially fatal risks, even at 30 degrees as it starts failing to cool itself, like i’m talking organ failure levels of risk. climate change isn’t coming to peak, it’s been in the global south where you can’t see it or feel it.
imagine temperatures that high and humidity as high as 75%—you make more heat than you can ever cool. your sweat cannot evaporate fast enough. you literally boil alive. heat deaths in india are underreported and they already hit the thousands. there is no plan, for a nation of almost 2 billion people. no plan. nothing.
man, i’m sorry—this breaks my heart. i went to odisha during one of the trips home to india to visit my mom’s family and it is one of the most remarkable and deeply wondrous places that i have ever seen. i wish that was how i could speak about it all the time. it’s a place that eternalizes human creativity and devotion towards the sublime. i wish anybody cared about india as much as it deserves to be cared for, starting with care from our own government.
This comic is about my friend Fadel. He survived the bombing of his home over 800 days ago, and has still not raised enough money to get to a hospital where they can remove the shrapnel from him. Worse, he rarely has enough money to even afford his medications and supplements to treat his blood disorder and the effects of long-term malnutrition.
Without access to medication, Fadel suffers from severe anemia, which leads him to faint. His family finds him collapsed unconscious, and must go through new fear that he has died, over and over. He has been hospitalized many times this year.
Fadel needs Erythropoietin (EPO) injection, Desferal, Paracetamol, Vitamin C, Vitamin B12, and Folic Acid / Vitamin B9. @fadell-aldany can barely afford a portion of them. This costs about $800 currently. When his condition becomes so debilitating that he cannot bear the severity of his pain, he needs pain medication. Israel's blockades create extreme scarcity, and a single pill now costs $100. He tells me that he hasn't been able to obtain it for a long time. Please donate and offer him some relief.
I've been suffering from severe anemia for almost six months. I can't bear to watch my body wasting away. I've also had metal fragments stuck in my body for over two years, and I haven't been able to remove them yet. Please, I don't want to lose myself. Please stand by me.
Please stand by me I need your halp to stop my pain and save myself as quickly as possible. Please don't ignore us. Every act of kindness makes a huge difference.
Can I be honest. I think the world may have had enough of American poets writing pieces about how it's weird to go about daily life while your government commits genocide abroad. I don't know if anyone needs to do another one of those
in all fairness it really is a bizarre/depressing/powerless feeling and it's not weird to explore that through art. But at some point it really just starts to feel like navel gazing. Like are these really the experiences and viewpoints we need to be centering right now

as a regular donor to Gaza Soup Kitchen I get their email updates, and they said today that while they've continued to be able to expand, donations are slowing down as Gaza gets less coverage. If you have a few dollars to spare, I encourage you to send them here to continue the amazing work that Hani and his team are doing.
