I had a dream last night

Or maybe it was a nightmare. On a purely rational level, I know that someday my parents will sell my childhood home, the only one I’ve ever known. The one where I have had the same bedroom for 31 years.

But will the new owners know, as they walk through the empty rooms, how that bedroom is cold for 8 months of the year because the north wind off the water batters it? That you need to keep the door open so that going to bed doesn’t feel like camping?

Will they know that you should never open the one window in the living room, because the same sea breeze will just immediately slam it shut, rattling the glass?

Will they know to wear shoes on the pathway down the bluff, because even though it looks invitingly green, weeds will burn your feet?

Will they know how my mother spent an entire summer rebuilding those kitchen cabinets? Or that the decaying wood platform in the trees almost cost my father his finger, the digit nearly an offering to the circular saw?

They’ll never know how, under the resurfaced floor of the basement, a Pokémon bandaid still sticks fast to the original concrete, a relic of toddlerhood.

They certainly won’t know how many times someone stumbled into the kitchen, guided by the amber light of the stove, to sneak a bowl of cereal in the night. Or how many fires were enjoyed in the brick hearth that anchors the living room. Or how much it means to me.

Quick update and question for everyone

This Monday starts one of the busiest “seasons” at work for me. For the next month or two I’ll be working at least 12 hour days- FML. Thus, this blog is going to mostly be running off my queue and hopefully I won’t lose what followers/engagement I’ve had.

I want to try and put one more thing out before I have no free time. I’ve got seven drafts in various stages of completeness, and I’m sort of struggling bc I’m not sure just how freaky/corrupt I can get. Idk man.

How freaky are we feeling?

A little rough is great, but I need a little softness
