I need people to know that Jackie did NOT in fact doom you to die by slotting the relic into your head. If he hadn't, Dex STILL would've shot V in the head. No relic to revive them. V would just be very dead. In a landfill. Forgotten by history. Jackie SAVED V'S LIFE with his dying act. At the very least, he gave V the opportunity to (a) become a legend like they always dreamed and/or (b) save themselves. Jackie gave his best friend the rarest and most valuable gift in the world, he gave them more time.

One of my favourite things from this game is this very speech - a part of the Tapeworm quest.

While what he's saying is straightforward, the line "Do whatever it takes to stop 'em, defeat 'em, gut 'em!" harmonizes nicely with his final line: "Goodbye, V. And... never stop fighting."

Cyberpunk is about many things, and one of the most important is that nothing will change if no one's fighting. If everyone's going with the flow, it will get worse and worse.

They win if we do nothing.

man I love a tragedy and Johnny Silverhand/V is thee doomed relationship. What if I was a virus eating your mind and killing you but in the process of trying to save your life we learned to share a body and a brain and we do actually get along despite everything. What if I taught you passion and believing in a cause and you taught me compassion and joy. What if after becoming one, we were doomed to separate in order for either of us to survive and it leaves neither of us whole.

Temperance Johnny avoiding physical conflicts because he wants so badly to protect V's body, to honor the gift given to him. Being dragged into a bar brawl he didn't start and losing his shit and nearly beating someone to death because the guy split open V's face with a broken bottle. Quietly apologizing to someone who isn't there while he tenderly cares for the ugly wound in the bathroom mirror. Being crushed by the realization it's probably going to scar. Falling apart because he knows he's now stuck with a version of V's face that V never lived in.

I think it's cute when people say that Jackie and Johnny would have been besties because I honestly think Jackie would be saying to V, "Wait! Where is he? Where is he standing? I have a thing or two to say to him about threatening to take over your body!" And then like an hour later, he'd be saying to V, "Can you ask Johnny what inspired him to write The Ballad of Buck Ravers? Seriously...who the fuck is Buck Ravers?!"

One min Johnny would be Jackie's arch nemesis and the next V would be saying, "gee thanks choom! Johnny just blipped out for an hour cause hes sick of your incessant fanboy questions."
