Greetings. I am Victoria, third-year honor student at Naranja-Uva Academy in the General Studies track. I am once again, for the most part, only here because my girlfriend (@espers-n-espurrs) is here. But perhaps I may indulge the rest of the clowns in this god-forsaken circus on rare occasions. For my own amusement, of course.
It seems that a time discrepancy between our universe and the greater Rotomblr sphere has appeared in the time since I've last logged into this site, so for those unaware, it is currently the year 2027 for me and those I am associated with. No, I will not divulge any secrets of what the future may hold. Not out of some false concern for the preservation of the timeline, but purely because I think it is funnier this way. I get to watch everyone's reactions in real time.
That aside, here are a few fun facts about me:
I am a psychic individual, and I may occasionally talk about life as a publicly-known psychic in my universe.
I enjoy partaking in double battles. While I primarily study at Naranja-Uva, I often take courses in Blueberry Academy during the summer break.
When I am not training my psychic abilities or my Pokemon, I often like to practice fencing and HEMA swordfighting.
The trainer card below is now outdated. While I have my physical trainer card on hand, the digital file is back at home in Paldea. Unfortunately, I am not currently in Paldea. So you will just have to deal with it for now.

I have watched you come onto every post that merely mentions the idea of psychics simply to adamantly deny their existence again and again, as if you believe that saying it enough times shall will it into existence.
Franky, this behavior is quite telling. This is not the behavior of someone who genuinely believes that psychics do not exist. This is the behavior of someone who, for one reason or another, wishes they did not.
Because of this, I have no intention of trying to “prove” the existence of psychics to you. I do not have to convince you of something that you already know.
You already know what you are. You have already seen the reflection in the mirror. You have already seen that the face staring back is your own.
You have simply chosen to look away.
And that is the part I do not understand.
Is it safer? Is it easier? Do you believe that by urging others to look away, you are saving them from the monster you believe is in their mirror? Do you fear the face in your own?
I can empathize with viewing one’s own psychic abilities as a curse. Believing that your powers make you a danger to others. To yourself. Believing that you will be taken advantage of by those who want your power for themselves. Believing that you will be Othered by society for something beyond your control.
But let me be the one to tell you this: the longer that you deny yourself, the longer that you will suffocate.
I apologize for putting you on the spotlight like this. But it needed to be said. I hope you understand.

with being psychic, is it helpful if the people around you intentionally try to mind their thoughts to be quieter and more appropriate? or does it not really matter/feel patronising? just curious :)
Well, before I answer this question, I should preface by stating that the way in which my telepathy operates is that I do not have control over whether it is “on” or “off”. Instead, it is a constant stream of thoughts and information much like being in the center of a crowded convention center. As far as I know, cases like this seem to be rare even amongst psychics—the only people whom I personally know with this type of telepathy are my mother and myself. That being said, because academic research on human psychics is few and far between, it is impossible for me to give any definitive answer as to the true rarity of this type of telepathy. There is no terminology that is universally agreed upon, but personally I would say that those who experience this type of telepathy could be called “ubiquitous telepaths”—their telepathy is ever-present within a certain range around them.
My range just so happens to be incredibly large.
This makes it difficult for me to ever enjoy a moment of peace and quiet. Yes, there are methods to drown out the cacophony of the crowd or to latch on to a specific mind to ground myself, but very rarely do I get to experience true mental silence. To do this, I would have to isolate myself from the rest of the world, and this is something I do not wish to do.
If people around me wished to mind the intensity or appropriateness of their thoughts for my sake, I would not stop them. If anything, I would appreciate their willingness to accommodate me to the best of their ability. However, this is a task that is easier said than done. It takes a great amount of time and mental effort to alter one’s own patterns of thought. Some people have naturally loud or intense streams of consciousness, and this is through no fault of their own. For example, my brother’s thoughts are typically incredibly quick and disjointed, cutting through one another as his mind leaps from place to place like a raging rapid with many twists and turns. Though chaotic and difficult for me to navigate, his mind is highly efficient because his brain works at a speed that is comfortable for him.
And much like trying to mind the intensity of one’s thoughts, it is difficult to moderate the contents of one’s own thoughts as well. One cannot be persecuted for thought crimes—many a time we will have thoughts that we do not agree with or wish to act upon. I am of the mindset that it is not the first thought, but the second thought that matters most. The goal should not be to completely purge oneself of all “bad” or “problematic” thoughts, but to learn to recognize when one’s own thoughts may be harmful to themself or others and pivot to self-correct. And I use the word “bad” in quotes because such descriptors are arbitrary, but I will infinitely think higher of someone who may have “bad” thoughts but can recognize them as such than someone who believes they are incapable of having “bad” thoughts.
But I digress. To answer your question, while such actions would do very little to alleviate the constant mental racket that I am subjected to on the daily, I would appreciate anyone who wants to mind the intensity or contents of their thoughts for my sake. Not because it would have any impact whatsoever, but rather because it displays a certain level of empathy for my plight and shows that are willing to accommodate me however they can.

Regardless of whether your efforts have any impact on your friend, I believe they at least appreciate the fact that you are attempting to cultivate a more comfortable environment for them nonetheless. Though, if i may suggest, the best way to accommodate them is to simply ask.
If only you and your mother's telepathy is like that, how does the telepathy of the other psychics you hang around work? Also is there any way to completely block out a telepath in your world? Partially block? Could a psychic figure out someone else is in their head and force them out? Are some people's minds just naturally so quiet you can barely hear them at all, or is everyone at least loud enough to hear without working for it?? Is there a way for a psychic to not only read thoughts but also alter them, or perhaps even actions?
Sorry for all the questions, especially since you said only so much is known about psychics in your universe. I'm just curious.
No need to apologize for being curious and asking questions. Though do keep in mind that I am not the only one in my universe that can provide answers— Esper is just as much a psychic as I, after all.
Placing a break in the post here because I know for certain that this one will be quite long.
Most of the psychics whom I interact with experience telepathy more akin to a radio. You can turn the radio on and off, and tune into a specific local station to choose what (or in this case, who) you’d like to listen to. The range of which one’s “radio” can reach will vary from person to person— for some, such as my brother, the range is so impossibly small that such telepathy is limited to skin contact. Additionally, how one may experience their telepathy may vary. Some, like myself, are naturally inclined to hearing the thoughts of others. Others, like my brother, experience it as a feeling. It is possible to train oneself to experience telepathy in other ways, but some methods come more naturally than others, and it takes quite a bit of time, effort, and practice to push yourself outside of your natural inclinations.
As for your second set of questions: yes, there are ways to block out a telepath in our universe. For most non-psychics, this is a fairly difficult task— how does one protect their own mind from invaders that they cannot sense? However, it is possible for a non-psychic to accomplish. In fact, when under a “thoughtless” haze, some manage to fortify their mind without even realizing it. Truly, it is those who are not actively thinking about shielding their mind that have the strongest defenses against their mind being read. Of course, this is only but one of many ways to deter a mental assault. It is harder to “block” a psychic than it is to overwhelm them with extraneous information, making it more difficult to find what they may be searching for. I cannot tell you how many times Jaime has annoyed me out of his mind simply by having that one Rick Astley song play in his head on repeat. Though, to be fair, there isn’t anything in his mind that is of interest to me, so I have little reason to want to dig past that. Should I actively want to fetch something from the recesses of his mind, I would not be deterred so easily.
That being said, psychics have a better chance of blocking another telepath than non-psychics do. To be psychic is to have a natural ability to perceive the world through methods outside of the known physical senses—hence the term “extrasensory perception”. This is what I consider the most barebones definition of what it means to be psychic (though even then, this definition may be flawed or exclusionary. I am workshopping it.). Thus, most psychics can sense when they are not alone in their own mind. The untrained or uninformed may not realize that the invader is another psychic, but they will recognize the inexplicable feeling of being watched or heard. Those who *are* trained, however, can force another psychic out of their mind by countering their visitor’s psychic energy with their own, and keep others out by using their psychic energy to create a shield of “interference” around their mind. From there, it becomes a battle of which force is strong enough to overpower the other. This is the reason why I could not hope to read my mother’s mind against her will— she has had decades to hone her shielding techniques. Besides, in times of large and stressful gatherings, her shielded mind was a quiet island for me to anchor myself so that I would not drown in the sea of roaring thoughts. Nowadays, with Esper and I sharing an apartment in Mesagoza, she is the one to take on this role.
There… are ways for a psychic to exert control over another’s mind. I know for a fact that memories can be altered. This is something that my cousin Mercedes does quite regularly. And this is something that I recall Z having dabbled in herself with the help of that Orbeetle of hers. The best protection against a psychic discovering incriminating information is to simply erase that information from your own mind.
…I cannot say for certain whether or not it is possible for a psychic to obtain complete control over the thoughts or actions of another. I have no intentions of finding out for myself. There are some lines that even I do not wish to cross.
Different anon. It is fascinating to see the differences in psychic abilities on this website, and wonder if it is due to manner of acquisition, or universe differences.
Likely a matter of both. I don’t doubt that a large majority of the differences between psychics here on Rotomblr comes primarily from universal differences, but I believe that the manner of acquisition would likely play a part in how one’s psionic abilities present themselves as well. Unfortunately, I have no basis of comparison for the latter, as this is not a known phenomena in my own universe. In fact, it is not known whether such a thing is even possible here outside of select unique circumstances such as Chosenship (which is not known by the world at large), though at this point I would not be surprised if it was in fact possible.
