I bought some broom mimics at a con about a year ago! They look so very fun, and I always like more mimics to play around with, so I just had to have them.

The miniatures are mainly painted with the Army Painter’s Speedpaints, while the floors are painted with D&D Adventurers Paint Set and all shadows and highlights have been done manually.

The models are from the Mimics set by Vae Victis Miniatures, which are itself part of the Bar Brawl set by Vae Victis Miniatures made in June 2021, though only the mimic form of the miniature can be found in the Mimics set. To make things even more complicated, I bought them from Mimic Kingdom at a con, and they were sold as a set but separate from the other mimic types. So. It's complicated. I'd try the Bar Brawl set if I was looking for both versions of the mimic.

I found this miniature and immediately thought of my cleric warlock, Nicarandír, whom I played in a Tomb of Annihilation campaign. They ended up being one of my most beloved characters. I wanted to paint the miniature to pay homage to them.

The miniature is Agatha: Pillar of Faith by SYZGames, painted by a mix of D&D Adventurers Paint Set, Army Painter’s Speedpaints, and my friend's assorted Vallejo and Army Painter paints.

I was at a con last year and saw this wonderful baby blink dog and just had to buy it. Look at it! It's the best dog. I also bought a baby displacer beast, a baby griffin, and a(nother) baby owlbear, which I will paint in hopefully the near future. They'll have so much fun harrassing adventurers together!

The model is the Blink Puppy by SYZGames. It was painted primarily with the Army Painter’s Speedpaints.

This is the third of the three owlbears that a friend had 3D-printed for me, with the other two being here and here.

For this one, I also used a wet palette, though I had a much tougher time creating shadows and gradients and such since there were much fewer distinct edges for highlights.

The paints used belonged to, among others, the D&D Adventurers Paint Set. The model was the Owlbear by mz4250.

Here's a miniature from the Blacklist Miniatures: Fantasy Series 1 kickstarter. I like to call her "If the Little Red Riding Hood woke up and chose violence".

I got to paint some purple worms! I initially painted the beige side purple and the purple side beige, and then had to redo it because it just didn't feel right. But now I like the result!

I got this figurine from the Blacklist Miniatures: Fantasy Series 1 kickstarter, and wanted to paint it in this gradient. I really like the way it turned out!

"Come pet me," says the little owlbear.

"Just fucking try," says the big owlbear.

This is the second of the three owlbears that my friend from a D&D campaign 3D printed for me. It's the baby owlbear to the first owlbear I painted. There's a third owlbear that friend had 3D printed for me.

This time, I tried airbrushing far more conservatively and gently, and ended up with a very faint layer of highlights. Having learned from the big owlbear, I decided not to push my luck and ruin my efforts (because that's what ended up happening when I tried to do stronger highlights on the big owlbear), and said that this was good enough.

I might at some point come back to it and blend the different browns around its eyes to make a seamless transition, but for now, it's good enough!

The paints used belonged to, among others, the D&D Adventurers Paint Set. The model was the Owlbear Cub by Yasashii Kyojin Studio on Thingiverse.

So in the new campaign I'm playing (the one with the party minis), one of the players has a 3D printer. I asked them whether they could print me an owlbear. They said they wouldn't print me one owlbear, they'd print me three. This is one of them. Here's the baby owlbear, and here's the third owlbear.

I decided to paint it without washes or speedpaints, and the initial plan was that I would start by fully painting it the darkest brown and then airbrush it with lighter layers of brown and then beige to create highlights with the least amount of effort. That plan died immediately upon contact with reality, and I struggled with getting the highlights and shadows right with airbrushing so much so that I eventually gave up and did all the shadows and highlights manually. How I have not gone insane, I do not know.

On the flip side, the constant mixing of browns and beiges forced me to create a wet palette. Here's how you do it in a few simple steps.

I recently started playing a new D&D campaign, and, me being me, I felt that it would be fun to paint miniatures of our characters. So here they are:

Kirke the wood elf druid

Gundar the gnome ranger

Barbatos the half-elf wizard

Morotar the human barbarian

Thrandos the high elf druid

Anie the dragonborn sorcerer

Makalaurë the half-elf bard (that's me!)

And yes, I am aware that some of these do not look like their class stereotype, but the way they look (weapons, armour, etc.) is actually fairly close to how we the players have outfitted them. They are... how to put it... far from min-maxed for efficiency. It might also have something to do with the fact that this is the first D&D campaign for pretty much everyone except me and the DM, so the others are still trying out what works and doesn't.

We're about to face a hobgoblin and seven goblins as level 1s, with several of us being out of spell slots. Wish us luck.

This is River. She's a character from an epic-length story I'm occasionally working on that wields a power called the aether (which is basically pure energy derived from one's life force), and also a greatsword because you can't really go wrong with a greatsword. I really like how her hair turned out—black and blue with whisps of white. She's also wearing lots of fur. Much like her literary counterpart, I've been working on this mini on and off for years.

The figurine was put together from the Frostgrave Barbarians II kit from North Star Military Figures.

Here's some oozes from the Blacklist Miniatures: Fantasy Series 1 kickstarter that I had a lot of fun testing the level of transparency of different Army Painter’s Speedpaints with. Simple but effective... and slimy.

This miniature is from Dungeons & Lasers: Animal Companions, and this specific one is called Geralt the Wolf. Here's the other one. Honestly, I think I prefer the one one, but that might just be my tastes because that one was painted with actual acryllic paints and this one was painted with the Army Painter’s Speedpaints, and I liked the effect of the acryllic paints more than the speedpaints on these models.

Welcome the paladin of Torm.

He's a silver dragonborn, but by the time I realized that the "silver" that came in my original Army Painter’s Speedpaints set didn't feel light enough and grey enough to feel like silver, I didn't feel like redoing it, so he looks kind of evil. I've since bought some other metallic paints, but it was too late for this one by then.

I don't know where I got this miniature, but she was painted with the Army Painter’s Speedpaints. Her sword kept bending, and even dipping it in boiling water couldn't permanently render it straight. How very... queer. (Yes, I think I'm very funny.)

She kind of matches Maedhros but also not really. Her colour scheme matches his pretty well, but she's a bit taller than him, which makes no sense given that Maedhros is canonically tall as hell, and the proportions felt off when they stood side by side. That's why I never photographed them side by side.

Update: @basementofthearchmage has helpfully found it, it's the Highland Heroine from Reaper Miniatures.

So I'll be real. As soon as I discovered this little guy in the Blacklist Miniatures: Fantasy Series 1 kickstarter set, I thought of Nelyafinwë Maitimo, aka Maedhros, from Tolkien's Silmarillion. I know that the shield doesn't have the Fëanorian Star, but I can't help but think of him as Maedhros. Look, he even has some blood on his sword from all the kinslaying he did, and he has a metallic hand as his right!

He kind of matches the red-haired lady with the red cape.

He was painted almost exclusively with Army Painter’s Speedpaints.

This is Shambly the shambling mound. I painted it with some Army Painter’s Speedpaints, then did highlights with some green Vallejo paints. I got it from the Blacklist Miniatures: Fantasy Series 1 kickstarter.
