Got a sudden burst of inspiration and decided to put together a general "Oh No, Bad Things Are Happening Right Now" @seekerquest fan theme. I let myself experiment a little with this one, aiming for more of a frantic, fast-paced feel where it sounds almost like the music's tripping over itself and your ears struggle to figure out what's going on now and then.

My favorite cosmic horror has always been "It isn't that they are so large and incomprehensible that they do not care about us any more than you care about a single flatworm in the river muck of some Siberian woodland".
It's been "This magnificent thing which defies explanation and is so grand and big it refuses to obey such tiny concepts like physics and reality cares about us so much. It loves us. It is fascinated by us endlessly. It wants to bring us closer to it, to talk to it, to hold conversations. But it cannot understand us. And we cannot understand it. And so it is terrible and dangerous."
Cosmic horror where the haunted house loves you so completely that it creates a door to a perfectly black hallway in your living room. You can walk down it for five and a half chilly minutes. Cosmic horror where your lonely domicile is so grateful that you live within its bones that it grows new ones for you.
It flexes its wallpaper tendons. It splays its stony foundations out for you, home-liver. It takes itself and it builds a home from which you are safe from all the outside world which could harm and age you. Here in these eternal attics and parlors and boudours and stairwells, the house will love you so deeply that no one will ever see you again.
Horror which is scary because the incomprehensible doesnt care about you will always amount to nothing when you know about horror which is scary because the incomprehensible cares about you in a way which you cannot tell it you do not want.
Isn’t this just explaining an ant’s relationship to a human? Or a fish in a fishtank?
No. You do not feel a deep and compelling love for a random ant on the sidewalk and want to do everything possible in your power to try and show it how much you love it. You also comprehend perfectly what a fish in a fishtank needs to survive and thrive, and what might cause it harm or distress. Also, many fish are intelligent enough to recognize their human carers and form relationships with them as such.

Hey, is it okay to send you questions about The Lazarus Epiphany? If it is: are Neil and Vin more cat people or dog people?
Absolutely! Fair warning, if you ask me about spoiler things I'll be obnoxiously evasive about it, but otherwise I'd be happy for the opportunity to answer whatever people are curious about.
As for your question - Neil and Vin are both cat people, the main difference being that Neil at least knows how to be normal about it. Vin, on the other hand, is the kind of person who'll drop everything to play with someone's cat for five hours, and they'll hold a complex conversation with the cat the whole time.
VIN: -and so, if you think about it, deregulation with regards to consumer safety law is even harmful to you, because it lowers standards for the materials used to produce your cat food, cat toys like this one, and the like. THE CAT: Mrrp? VIN (SWINGING A CAT STRING TOY IN A WIDE ARC THAT COMES DANGEROUSLY CLOSE TO KNOCKING EVERYTHING OFF THE NEAREST SHELF): Ah, an astute point, Sir Pouncealot. It honestly feels a little surreal that we managed to see this thing through, but I’m really excited to show off where we’re taking the series next. I just explained my issues with executive dysfunction to my dad and holy shit he gets it!
I described it like this:
Imagine you’re back at AllPro(where he worked) with fifty phones and they’re all ringing. You want to answer them all because they’re all equal priority. That’s an environmental cue– phones are generally a ‘respond immediately’ cue.
Picking up a phone is a simple thing. You know it’s as easy as deciding which phone to answer and reaching out to pick it up, but your brain is saying “I must answer all of them!” The phones are ringing, and you can’t make your body reach out to pick one up because you don’t have fifty arms to reach out, you don’t have fifty ears to listen with, you don’t have a brain that can process and respond to fifty conversations and you don’t have fifty mouths that can all say different things all at the same time.
Either you do it all simultaneously or nothing will happen. You can want to do it so bad it makes you cry, and you can’t make a decision because no choice seems like the right one. So the task stays unfinished and you get frustrated every time somebody reminds you to “just do it, it’s not that hard!” Because yes, it really IS that hard.
Now, if you had somebody who could point to which phone to answer, you can do it fine. That’s a prompt. Prompting removes the ‘middle man’ thought that says ‘do it all at once’ and gets you to focus on tasks one at a time instead of seeing them as some towering insurmountable mess.
Dad looked at me for a couple of seconds and said something to the effect of, “I didn’t know doing things were that hard for you.”
This is a major, major, major breakthrough between us because dad had it in his head that I left things messy because I didn’t care. While that’s crappy of him to assume, teaching him how that’s not the case and having him really understand it is a huge deal.

Just, the constant refrain of “NT people and only NT people lay weird verbal traps and read things you didn’t mean into what you say” when if you look around this site you will constantly see autistic, ADHD, and otherwise ND people accidentally laying weird verbal traps and reading things people didn’t mean into what they say (and often tearing each other to shreds due to things we read into each others’ words RIP) because none of us are using perfectly spherical language in a vacuum. That’s not actually a thing. We all have context that affects how we use and interpret words. Words don’t actually work any other way.
Language is like a printer: horribly messy and inefficient and messy and barely works at the best of times but you really have no choice but to use it
yeah and i mean. this is a different way of restating stuff i’ve said elsewhere about how much of the dominant narrative concerning the Difference Between Allistic/NT and Autistic/ND people is.. just false? like to a ‘systematically gaslighting people about the most helpful and sensical framing of their own experiences’ level.
autistic people don’t have perfectly logical communication, and it is not the case that either the group of autistic people or the group of allistic people understand each other naturally or all the time.
people have communication differences and some of those differences are pathologised. Diagnostic labels affect how everyone, including the people directly involved, interpret a social situation (especially when it goes less than ideally), often in ways that assign fault inappropriately and suggest unhelpful attitudes and ‘solutions’.
