Too many white women definitely voted for trump and, hell, at the end of the day far too many women are anti-female reproductive rights (aka “pro-life”). But I agree with the original sentiment. Once again, the blame is tossed onto women when men are the root of the problem.

Everything you said is true, but indeed, there is a time and a place. Baldly blaming “white women” with no criticism for the males who are actually responsible for what has happened in Texas, shows a profound lack of compassion, empathy, and nuance, and an abundance of misogyny.

It’s follows the same line of logic as blaming a rapist’s mother for his actions. Sure, she put him there, but he did it. Men did this.

We can talk about the various degrees of responsibility of all parties that led us here but it has to be proportional. White women’s part in all of this exists, but it is minuscule compared to the efforts of men. But you’d never know that, looking at the discourse. It’s distorted to disproportionately hold women responsible, as always :/

DO NOT remove it unless it is in imminent danger (nearby cat, by a road, etc). fledgling baby birds are still learning to fly, but they do not need help - they are almost fully feathered, and their parents are still keeping an eye on them and helping them. removing them and taking them to a rehabber does more harm than good!

Reconstructions made from the ancient skeletons found at archeological sites:

The Whitehawk Woman. She lived in England around 5,000 years ago and was buried with great care. She was also buried with a newborn infant, and died aged between 19 and 25 years old. Researchers believe she died during or very soon after childbirth. Her bones indicate she was otherwise in good health.

Adelasius Ebalchus. He lived in Switzerland 1,300 years ago, and was in his late teens/early twenties at the time of his death. His gravesite indicated he came from wealth, and his bones showed he was well-nourished. His bones also showed that Adelasius suffered a lingering infection; archeologists believe he most likely died from lung inflammation.

The Slonk Hill Man was found semi-crouched in a grave near the seaside town of Brighton, England — in the same area as the Whitehawk Woman. Their lives, however, were separated by nearly 3,000 years. The Slonk Hill Man lived during Britain’s Iron Age. The reconstruction artist (an archeologist and sculptor) described him as being “very good looking”, tall, muscular, and in robust health at the time of his death. There were no obvious signs of what caused his death.

The Wari Queen. She was found in 2012 by a Polish-Peruvian archeology team, entombed in an underground mausoleum in El Castillo de Huarmey, Peru. She lived approximately 1200 years ago and died in her sixties. Her bones indicate she led a leisurely life, and her decayed teeth indicate a diet high in sugar (most likely she regularly drank the sugary corn-based beer, chicha). Other artefacts in her chamber suggest she was an expert weaver — a very highly-valued craft.

if you’re staring down that looming heat wave and you don’t have ac, or your ac can’t keep up:

put your feet in a tub of water.

just regular tapwater. if you don’t have a bucket or washtub you can use, run a few inches in the bathtub and pull up a chair to the side of it.

this got me through a summer in a sunbaked attic apartment with no AC, in minneapolis, where highs in the 90s are pretty much guaranteed for at least a couple weeks every summer. it was at LEAST 110 in that apartment every day of that hot stretch. i cannot overstate how much soaking your feet helps.

you can also fill a plant mister from the cold tap and mist yourself.

Another tip if you need just a quick, brief cooldown - run your wrists under cold water! This saved my ass working in a hot haunted house in the Midwest when summer decided to bugger off late some years. Also, plenty of popsicles!

oh yeah, rinsing your hands/wrists is a big help. i learned to just do that as a matter of habit while doing yardwork, even if i don’t feel too hot yet – just run the hose over my hands and forearms every so often in between tasks. turns lawnmowing from ‘guaranteed heatstroke’ to ‘pretty tolerable’.

oh, which reminds me – don’t wait until you’re Suffering to do cool-down things. drink before you’re panting from thirst. get into the shade before you feel sunburny. get ahead of it! prevention is the name of the game!
